Casse, which means oak or oak wood in Occitan, gave its name to this village on the outskirts of Agen. Slightly steep slopes punctuate this hike in the first foothills of the Pays de Serres.

This long hike in the Agen countryside, will make you discover, in the uneven relief of the hillsides of the Pays de Serres, large farms, houses of character, dovecotes, orchards and traditional cultures...

Starting from the car park at the foot of the recently restored windmill, this short easy walk will take you twice across the road to the Verona valley and its stream, the Courbarieux.

The first part of the circuit rises progressively in the wooded hillsides of the Bellette, offering vast viewpoints. The second part runs at the bottom of the Masse valley and can be extended around the lake.

This fairly rugged hike will take you along steep, shady paths through the hills of the Agen region of the Pays de Serres.

Lake, fountains and wash houses offer refreshing stops on this circuit, traced in the tormented landscape of the Pays de Serres, at the gates of Agen and the Garonne valley. Following the floods of 1993, the Syndicat Intercommunal d'Aménagement de La Masse et de La Laurendanne decided to build a flood protection structure. Since 1998, this 22-hectare reservoir has been recovering water from a catchment area of 880 hectares and can collect a volume of water of 1,172,000 m³ Landscaping has enabled the reservoir to be integrated into the natural environment and an agreement has been signed with the Lot-et-Garonne federation for fishing and protection of the aquatic environment.

This short hike with very steep climbs is often shaded. It starts on the banks of the lake of Talives, a very popular place for fishermen in Agen.

From the village, land of the Romans and the Templars, the paths follow one another between the valley, the cliff and the hillsides to offer you wonderful views of the Pays de Serres.

Between heritage, shady paths, viewpoints and through the Bois de Courties, this hike will take you to the remains of the church of Roudoulous. Situated on an Ancient Roman Road between Agen and Cahors, Sauvagnas remains a village of character with a past steeped in history. Former Commandery of the Order of the Templars around 1235, then of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem (Order of Malta), it was visited by Bertrand de Goth, the future Pope Clement V on 01 July 1304. The remains are numerous, the presence of numerous washhouses, fountains and wells, source of life, attests to the omnipresence of man on the territory. Finally, the walker will not fail to discover the Church of St-Jean de Salvy where the relics of St-Salvy, the altar and the bell of the old church of Le Roudoulous dating from 1592 can be found.

At the gates of Agen, the botanical garden of Darel is installed on the site of a former tile factory in Pont-du-Casse. Covering more than 2 hectares, this garden, classified as a "Jardin de France", is a real reserve of regional flora, preserving various endangered plants. To familiarise you with each species, small signs indicate their common and learned names as you stroll through the garden. Romanesque building from the 11th century, built by the Templars of the Order of the Knights of Malta In the 14th century, the church passed into the hands of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem. The plan of this church is reminiscent of some oratories from the Carolingian period. It was restored in the 20th century Its dimensions are 16 m long, 6.40 m wide and 12.80 m high. The rectangular nave opens directly onto a magnificent triumphal arch that gives access to a narrow, vaulted sanctuary, ending in an ovoid apse. The floor is covered with large slabs arranged in a cross. To the south, a side chapel was added, with slabs in the shape of a flower. The bell tower is built over the arch of the sanctuary and is shaped like a pinnacle. On the outside, a fragment of the cornice is decorated with modillions with crude heads or geometric figures.

La statue est toujours là, abritée dans un reliquaire derrière le maître autel. Bien entendu, elle a donné lieu à d'importants pèlerinages. A tel point qu'en 1891 une statue monumentale de la Vierge fut érigée sur le coteau de la Rocal. Depuis la voie verte du canal, vous accèderez facilement à ce plateau. La vue y est imprenable !
