Do you like nature, walks on flat terrain, bats and/or Orval Abbey? This nice and easy walk is for you!  This signposted 5.5km route, in a loop starting from the crossroads near Orval Abbey, takes you to see how the bats live, meet a herd of Highland cows and explore the roots of a Cistercian valley.

This 49km walk gives you the chance to explore some exceptional sites in the Ardennes such as the Roche à l’Appel, the Roches du Moulin, the medieval ruins of Herbeumont castle, Les Épioux and the large Chiny forest. Further south, in Gaume, you will be impressed by the remarkable Florenville viewpoint, the village of Chassepierre, a real paradise for painters, and the traditional Gaume houses in Laiche and Fontenoille.

Cross over Pont Charreau with its lion gargoyles to reach the charming village of Termes. Then you will find a lovely view over the Semois in Breuvanne before heading to the Gros Cron in Lahage. On the way you will see the captivating lime tree in Gérouville, the beautiful Orval Abbey and the Gallo-Roman site of Chameleux.

Whether on a country lane, in the town centre or in the forest, Florenville will surprise you with its diversity. Let yourself be captivated by the unique atmosphere of the wooded meander of the Semois! Walks will delight you with its breath-taking lookout, its dolmen or the Grea former watchtower, or even its beautiful little path going along the river Semois. Sometimes in the heart of the forest, sometimes on pretty country paths, this walk is full of charm in any season.

The charming village of Chassepierre is set in a narrow valley facing a loop of the Semois. A real paradise for painters who appreciate its architecture, calmness and landscapes. It is included on the list of “most beautiful villages in Wallonia”. The Sylvia Arduina may be untamed and inhospitable, but it nevertheless remained inhabited. This vast territory needed to be evangelised – so said the Frankish Kings! The hermits were the first scouts. One of them, Walfroy, settled in Margut. He was not alone… A few kilometres away, in the middle of the forest, monks founded Orval Abbey…
