With its wide paths through a cereal-growing countryside, sometimes lined with tall trees, sometimes open to offer you a grandiose panorama of the Landes forest and in good weather on the Pyrenees, this circuit alternates landscapes of great diversity. Its particularity, the numerous churches in ruins: Labastide in the heart of a hamlet, Mataillac isolated in the middle of a field and Saint-Gény covered with ivy. In Veyries and Saint-Gemme however, two buildings in good condition remain, one with a bell-tower-wall, the other with a pointed bell-tower.

From the village of Veyries, seat of the parish church and the town hall, to the church of St-Gény, there are numerous viewpoints on the hillsides of Gascony and the Landes forest.

A local association, to promote its forest, offers a health trail, a visit to a pigeon farm and the discovery of the princes of the undergrowth. What an appropriate name for mushrooms! From October 1st to November 15th, please respect the hunting areas around the pigeon houses.

In this large forest, mostly planted with deciduous trees, large straight tracks mark the boundaries of the plots. To the south, the landscape opens up from the hillsides of Gascony to those of the Garonne

This easy hike will take you to the many tobacco drying sheds, witnesses of a recent past when Nicot grass flourished, and to the shady banks of the Garonne canal greenway. Please note that during periods of flooding of the Garonne, this route is closed.

This hike, with its gentle slopes, links the village, which is irrigated by the Garonne, to the Canal des Deux Mers. As you pass through Le Mas-d'Agenais, from the cobbled square planted with a medieval-style market hall, don't hesitate to enter the Saint-Vincent Collegiate Church. It is considered as one of the most remarkable buildings in Lot-et-Garonne, for several reasons. Its architecture first of all, is a mixture of styles, it includes in particular a portal of XIIe century. The collegiate church also owes its fame to the fact that it houses the sarcophagus and the funerary stele of Saint-Vincent, whose relics were sheltered in the 5th century. Finally, the collegiate church of Mas-d'Agenais is famous for its magnificent paintings, including a masterpiece by Rembrandt, representing Christ expiring on the cross.

This new town, founded in the 13th century by Edward I of England, takes its name from a small area. The Queyran extends over complementary soils on the border of the Garonne valley and the forest.

Built in 1873 in a neo-Romanesque style, the church features a cul-de-four choir divided into eight quarters painted blue with gold stars, three of which are adorned with haloed winged angels emerging from the clouds. Giovanni Masutti may have decorated all or part of the interior of the building in 1937 or 1938, but only the choir paintings are attributable to him today.

The church was rebuilt in 1895, but retains some early 15th-century elements. Giovanni Masutti would have intervened in Saint-Caprais church either in the late 30s or very early 40s, since several churches with the same decorative styles can be found in the surrounding area. The nave, chapels and choir were covered almost entirely on the ceiling with silver star patterns. Winged angels emerging from the clouds adorn the nave, including one holding a banner bearing the name of the church?s patron saint. The dove of the Holy Spirit can be seen on the ceiling joining the choir. The walls of the chapels are covered with faux trompe-l?il fixtures, as are the arcades on the ceiling. This château originally had only one tower, built by order of Alienor of Aquitaine. The, building was extended and renovated in the second half of the 15th century during the first Renaissance. A century later, Malvirade became of one Henry IV’s houses and bore witness to the eight French Wars of Religion.
