A picturesque waterfall with a natural bassin Waterfall of the Siniq river forming a natural pont. Water is enjoyable in summer but, coming directly out of the mointains, always very fresh. D - Starting point at Capat near Malbo (take the D 54, then turn right in direction of La Francio/Capat). C Pass Capat and continue by car until the parking (1 km, drivers attention: deep ditches!). 1 - Follow the blue marking and cross a pasture (30 minutes there and back). Hike in a beautiful glacial valley where you can find in June some rare orchids. Care for good hiking shoes, some paths are wet and slippery. In Malbo restaurant and bar to take a breather or eat something. D - DEPART: From the church at LACAPELLE-BARRES. Return to just before the D990. To the right a path leads to the bridge. Cross the bridge and take the path to the left. 1 - Higher up take the 2nd path on the right. Follow this to the D401. 2 - .Follow the D 401 on the left and 50m before the crossroad of CHATOUR cross the field to the right and cross the Siniq. A good cobblestone track climbs to NOUVIALLE (this track can be very wet underfoot.) 3 - Cross the village and follow the road 4 - Take the path to the left. The path leads to the D57.View to the Puy de Bâne 5 - Climbing again take the path on the left to just behind ROUPON and to the left to a ford (a little footbridge to the right). 6 - Arrive on the road and take the path at right climbing to MALBO (can be very muddy). Cross the village and in a bend to the right follow the road for 300m. Take the path to the left, further on the path descends very steeply to LA FRANCIO. 7 - Cross the road. follow at right. Ahead the path climbs to LABRO and right behind CHATOURS. Viex to the Aubrac plateau. 8 - After the "vacherie of Malmeza" follow the same direction in private land and 300m further below cross the stile. A path leads to the bridge and to the point of departure by a path on the left after the bridge. Mountainbike: not possible, too dangerous and wet paths.

Over a 4 km round trip, the trail crosses gorges 20 m to 60 m deep, carved by water over the centuries into volcanic breccias. Along the Jordanne, the fishermen's path invites you to cross from one bank to the other on a wooden footbridge, an arched bridge and many other unusual structures! Then climb 30 m up the ledge to cross the glacial lock and enter the "chaos": here, boulders dot the riverbed. Test your knowledge of rocks, flora and fauna along the way. In the heart of the Mounts of Cantal in the Jordanne Valley, between Aurillac and the Puy Mary, come and visit the village and its church. Through a monumental work of more than 100 m², discover the life of Gerbert, this child of the country, who became the first French Pope under the name of Sylvester II, known as the Pope of the Year 1000, illustrious scientist, "maker of kings ”. These frescoes, by the Hungarian painter Gábor Szinte produced in 2005, depict the great periods of Gerbert's life.

Military hideout since the 12th century, Sédaiges Castle played an important part in thre fighting between the English and the French during Medieval times in Auvergne. This impressive castle is a fine and unique example of Troubadour architecture from the 19th century. The same family has always lived there and managed to maintain the magnificent interior decoration. The visitor can admire 5 classified Flanders tapestries and an exhibition concerning “Games and toys from the olden days”. A 6 hectare garden is open to the public.

South of Salers in the Doire valley, you will find “Tournemire”. Perched on the hillside and ranked as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, its name comes from a famous family Tournemire. The knight Rigaud de Tournemire is mentioned in a settlement dated from 1030. His brother, Pierre, a knight, participated in the Crusade of 1095 and preached in Clermont-Ferrand. Legend has it that when he came back from the Holy Land, he brought a thorn from Christ’s crown. Venerated as a miraculous object it is said that it cures eyesight troubles. It was kept within the Romanesque church of which the oldest parts date from the 12th century - its chapels, its keystones, its porch and sculptures are other remarkable elements to see. During the 12th century, the Tournemire family built a monumental castle the high tower of which included the present church in its surrounding wall. Unfortunately, the fortunes lost in the Crusades and the sharing of the seigniory between several co-lords progressively contributed to the decline of the Tournemire family. A bourgeois family from Aurillac, the Anjony (a derivation of the name Johanni), enriched by successfully trading in animal skins, became consuls of the town, bought lands from the Tournemires and built their own castle during the 15th century. A wedding sealed the alliance between the two families, one bringing a blazon (coat of arms) and the other bringing the finances. The honeymoon was short and the two families indulged in a ruthless battle using surrounding routes, paths, residences, the cemetery and even the church as a sparring ground. These quarrels persisted during the Religious wars and ended in 1623 with a duel between 3 Anjony and 3 Tournemire. A visit to the present 15th century castle will give you an insight into the turbulent history of this village and help you to speculate about what happened. Walking through the village, you will see numerous houses with monumental stones coming from the previous 12th century castle but nowadays we can only guess at the actual site. When you get near the church, follow the cave path where you will see notches for beams and fire place conduits in the rock- proof of an ancient building. Further into the caves, evidence shows that this is without doubt the oldest inhabited area of the village. You’ll see that the caves offered shelter for the herds and their fodder.

Built by Louis d’Anjony, Jeanne d’Arc’s companion, commissioned by King Charles 8th to protect the surrounding area, the Anjony donjon is still intact and proud, an excellent example of the mountain fortress from the 15th century. 2 stars in the Michelin guide. From Aurillac, take this tourist route and discover one of the most beautiful panoramas on the Cantalien volcano. Open your eyes and let yourself be guided: - The chapel of St Jean de Done, a few kilometers from Aurillac: this former commandery of the Order of the Knights of Malta is a pure marvel of architecture. - The orientation table of Alquier culminates at 977 meters of altitude. Accessible to everyone (only 200 m walk from the parking lot), it offers a 360 degree panorama of the Monts du Cantal. - The chapel of Roquenatou is located at 900 meters of altitude in the direction of Marmanhac. At the junction of Broize, take the direction of Marmanhac. A former priory erected by Géraud d'Aurillac in the 9th century, this sanctuary has always been dedicated to the Holy Virgin and known as Notre-Dame de Roquenatou. It has belonged for many years to the owners of the Sedaiges de Marmanhac castle (see page ). Come back on the route des Crêtes and continue your way to the Croix de Cheules. Take the direction of St Cirgues de Jordanne to reach the Puy Mary by the Jordanne Valley. You may wonder if the route des crêtes is not too narrow and dizzying! It overhangs the Jordanne Valley on all its length but the road remains wide enough to cross with another vehicle even if it is a truck or a tractor! So no stress and have a good ride!

Several villages like Fontanges, Le Fau and La Bastide are tucked away in the vallée de l’Aspre (Aspre valley), which is quite wild and unknown, leading to the Bois Noirs (Black Woods). For the lovers of geology, this valley has several pyroclastic flows (dense and turbulent emulsion of different sized lava fragments and high speed gas flows) at the Coin waterfall and La Peyre del Cros village.

Come visit and stay in our gîte which is located 8 km from Aurillac in the most beautiful valley of Cantal which leads us to Puy-Mary (1783 m). You can take a walk on the numerous hiking trails throughout the valley. You can also enjoy the pleasures of fishing at the river and at the Grave lake near the cottage. You can also take the cycle path in summer and visit our beautiful villages and their castles. You will have at your disposal 4 to 5 parking spaces with the possibility of storing your sports equipment (motorcycles, bikes, skis, etc.) On the ground floor, the large family-style kitchen, the living room and the entrance hall open onto the 1000m2 park. Upstairs, you will find a bedroom with a 160 x 200 bed, 2 bedrooms with a 140 x 190 bed and a bedroom with 3 90 x 190 beds. The gîte is equipped with 2 bathrooms and 2 separate toilets .
