LA MANUFACTURE ROUTE

Thanks to the Club Vosgien and the walking section of the MJC of Bains-les-Bains for the creation of this hike and for the work done by its teams throughout the year to mark out and maintain these paths. Blue ring marking - Varied trail - At the Rue de la Pavée near the camping area, follow the small marked path. Continue on this path until you cross the Rue des Anciens Moulins. The big building in front of you is an old wire drawing mill. Wire drawing is the process of reduction of the cross-section of a metal wire by mechanical traction on a drawing machine. Factories that specialise in wire drawing are called wire drawing mills. Turn left to continue along Rue des Anciens Moulins. Follow the markings to a small path in the forest. You come to a crossroads, turn right. You will come to another crossroads, turn right again. The road you are taking was the old road used by the inhabitants of Trémonzey to get to work in the factory, the mills, the wire drawing mill... You will arrive at the Moulin au bois, a former nail factory. This metallurgical factory, known as the Moulins-aux-Bois forge in the 16th century, then became a hardware factory (nails) in the 19th century. It definitely closed in 1980. The film "Indigène" by Rachid Bouchared was shot in this area. The film takes place in 1943, when France is trying to free itself from Nazi domination. It follows the journey of four "natives", forgotten soldiers of the 1st French army recruited in Africa. Cross the D434 to continue straight ahead over a bridge. You will walk along the Canal des Vosges and the river Le Côney, then cross a wooden bridge. Continue on this road and you will see the Manufacture on your left, then the beech tree opposite the Châtelet. Take the straight road on the left (possibility of a path through the wood on the left, to be avoided in wet weather). Following the markings, cross the road carefully and go up on the right by a stone path, an old Roman road.

LES CURES THERMALES

The spa resort of Bourbonne-les-Bains is situated in a remarkably well preserved natural environment, at the source of the River Meuse, on the border of the Lorraine, Franche-Comté and Burgundy regions. Each year, from March to November, more than 10,000 people come to take the waters and benefit from the healing properties of the hot springs, which have a high calcium and magnesium content, as well as being rich in sodium and trace elements that have a similar composition to human serum. The waters flow through different rocky layers from a depth of up to 2,000 m, thus acquiring their properties and picking up heat before surfacing at 66°. The springs at Bourbonne-les-Bains have curative effects on rheumatism, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, fractures, bone decalcification and ENT disorders, as part of a three-week medical water cure. Clinical scientific research on water cures taken at Bourbonne-les-Bains, carried out by the Nancy University Hospital, has proven that thermal waters improve the quality of life, lessen pain and increase bone formation. Local applications of mud are carried out using clay kneaded with the thermal water: they accentuate the thermal waters' properties through cutaneous exchange and reduce muscular contractions. The bath has a relaxing effect. The hydro-massage bath is particularly popular with those taking waters at the spa resort: for 20 minutes, jets of varying pressure sweep over the entire body. The jet shower is invigorating and stimulating. In the hammam, or emanatorium, situated directly above the Roman well, the rare gases and thermal vapours are gathered and directly absorbed via the pulmonary route. ENT treatments include aerosols, inhalations, sprays and gargles.

BOURBONNE-LES-BAINS

A moment of well-being : As well as traditional water cures, the Spa Resort has started to develop other activities. Everyone, whether taking the waters or not, can choose from the various fitness packages available. Choose your theme and enjoy a short break that has both thermal and aesthetic features: the Thermal break (4 spa treatments of your choice to be taken in one morning), "the Back well-being break", "the Relaxation break", "the Anti-stress break", "the A Day just for yourself break", "the Shape and Slimming break" etc. Visits and activities : The tourist resort also has many parks: the Bannie Wildlife Park, the arboretum, the “Parc des Sources” and the “Parc du Château”. The Bannie Wildlife Park is 2.5 kilometres from the town, on the Coiffy-le-Haut road. There is a 30-hectare walking area, two picnic areas and children's play area for visitors to enjoy, as well as 100 hectares of enclosures where boars, stags, deer and many different varieties of birds can be spotted. In the “Parc du Château”, you can still see the gatehouse and the service quarters of the former 16th century fortified castle. The present château, that houses the “Hôtel de Ville”, dates back to the 18th century and was a gift from Chevandier de Valdrome, in appreciation of the beneficial effects of the thermal waters. The museum is in the service quarters of the former fortified castle, and houses Gallo-Roman remains devoted to the spa, local artists, 250 species of naturalised birds and travelling exhibitions. FROM MARCH TO NOVEMBER: At the Borvo Centre, the Tourist Office, visitors are welcomed and informed, and exhibitions are hosted (temporary shows and exhibitions of paintings, sculptures or handicrafts). You can also discover regional arts and crafts and local producers at the "Saveur et Savoir Faire" day, which takes place every three weeks. At the Clocheton, the activity centre: a place to meet and talk, where activities are organised on a daily basis for visitors (board games, reportages, song recitals and talks), as well as sports leisure activities: hikes, MTB, fishing, tennis, mini-golf etc. A monthly events programme is available at the Tourist Office.
