From Termignon, this ascent gives you the opportunity to discover the Vanoise national park and its glaciers. At the heart of the park you will certainly see marmots, orchids and other alpine flowers. Mountain atmosphere and fresh air guaranteed. The road surface is good, and its traffic is moderate. There are some fountains and restaurants in Termignon and Plan du Lac. The nearest bike repair shop is located in Termignon (Ski Set).

No real difficulty, although the return trip to Termignon is a little challenging on the legs. Take your time, set a steady pace and enjoy a rest at the panoramic viewpoint near the Balmes cave. The ride to Sollières is easy and mostly downhill, but the return trip will get the leg muscles working hard as you climb the pleasant forest track. The final descent to Termignon presents no technical difficulty. But first, take the time to admire the panoramic view over the valley and Vanoise mountains and the picturesque scenery from the Balmes cave lookout point.

An elevation gain of 803 metres on a track which climbs steadily for 8.5 km to the Replat des Canons. Adopt the right pace from the start and you should make it to the top to be rewarded with a beautiful panoramic view and a well-deserved descent.

The climb takes plenty of effort and patience, but if you take the time to recover at the top, the superb descent makes it all worth it. A beautiful ascent above Val Cenis, first on a track, then on a mountainside path across chamois country. In spring, the snow melts fairly quickly on these south-facing slopes, making it a good spot for animals to graze. The descent is a must for mountain-bikers who enjoy a technical challenge. Once past Termignon, the return trip to Val Cenis is via the Chemin du Petit Bonheur. From the chamois' pastureland you can admire a 180° panoramic view over the valley and surrounding mountains. Follow the Doron torrent of Doron and, step by step, get to know its quirks. At over 2,000 metres above sea level, right before your eyes, it rushes down the gorges it's been carving over the centuries. And here it remains, ever greedy for the refreshing waters of the glacier melt. At the bridge (Pont du Villard), your adventure has only just begun. Peaksseem to gather together here to quench your thirst for adventure: Pointe de l’Abby, Pointe du Génépy, and even Dôme de l'Arpont! So far and yet so close at the same time, the waterfalls parade before you, one after another. Fascinated by this dream-like atmosphere, you make your way forward, until the paved path leading to the Vanoise National Park brings you back down to earth. And what's that cave you can see as you stop for a rest at the Balmes lookout point? A secret cave that once served as a sheepfold for our Neolithic ancestors. What was life like in those days? In the blink of an eye, you are transported thousands of years back to the "New Age" of the Stone Age, when livestock farming emerged in our mountains. If you're lucky enough to explore this trail in spring, an extra treasure awaits you with each snowmelt. Enjoy the privilege of a visit to the Merderel waterfall, which dries up as soon as summer rears its head.

Thanks to the lifts at the Val Cenis Termignon ski resort, you can enjoy a high altitude loop that feels like a real journey. What could be more comfortable than to pull yourself effortlessly up to the open mountain pastures? The roches blanches chairlift is just waiting for you to start its ascent. With an intrigued eye, you may catch a glimpse of thrill-seeking mountain bikers hurtling down the "blue cheese" enduro track. As soon as you arrive at Replat des canons, the trees reveal the Vanoise glaciers and the majestic Dent Parrachée. At 3697m, it dominates the valley like an emblematic totem. Climb to the top on foot and feast your eyes on the panorama from the Sort de l'Erellaz. A 180° glimpse from Aussois to Termignon offers the luxury of a few luminous photos. You've never seen so many trout in one day! As for the fishermen, you'll notice that they release them after catching them. As you pass through the Bonnenuit combe, look to your left. What is that strange-looking construction? A snow barrier that shields the valley from the unpredictable winter snowfall. On this side of the mountain, Mother Nature often bares her teeth.

This refuge of the Vanoise National Park is on the GR5, not far from the glacier of the same name. This refuge offers a superb unobstructed view from the roof terrace. The old chalets have been converted into 6- or 10-person dormitories for a pleasant stopover in the refuge. In spring, it is guarded for ski touring. In the heart of the Vanoise National Park, bivouacs are only permitted during the summer months on dedicated sites in the immediate vicinity of the refuge, during the guarding period. These three small chalets of stone, wood and slate huddled at 2320 m altitude are former alpine chalets fully restored. Centrally located at the Tour of the Vanoise Glaciers and the GR5. Easy access 30 min walk from the arrival of the Grand Jeu chairlift, 1 hour from the Carrière car park, 2 hours around the Plan d'Amont dam. This WWI unique memorial, represents a lady in local dress crying for a relative dead at war. Luc Jaggi-Couvert, originally from Termignon, created this masterpiece. A woman, in local costume, is mourning a relative lost in the war below the church of Val Cenis Termignon. This work by Luc Jaggi-Couvert, a Swiss sculptor from Val-Cenis Termignon, was one of the first monuments to the pacifist dead, even though most people exalt patriotic virtues.

Between 1180 and 1350 the spice trade was active. Smugglers or, perhaps, honest merchants, to thank the Virgin Mary for their many safe journeys through the Vanoise, had this chapel erected in 1536 (testament of the late Jean Perrin) in place of one of their shelters. It was remodelled in 1632, 1710 and 1841 each time in the same spirit. This chapel sheltered ex-voto paintings of mule-drivers and a black virgin, which has now sadly disappeared.

The museum presents the discoveries made in the Balmes cave and the visitor becomes a witness to the culture and cultural influences of these mountain people who had a relationship with their environment that went far beyond mere subsistence. The first farmers and stockbreeders of the Neolithic period settled about 5,600 years ago in the Balmes cave overlooking Val Cenis-Sollières. The museum presents all the objects of the daily life of these first mountain dwellers of Haute Maurienne. The objects and handicrafts on display in the museum plunge the visitor into the daily life of these mountain people, who had a relationship with their environment that went far beyond mere subsistence.

This 50 metre calade in the hamlet of Villard comprises 13 “coltsfeet”. This arrangement of stones set without mortar, facilitated the passage of mule caravans in this steeper portion of the path. Between 2010 and 2014, a joint operation between the town of Termignon and the Vanoise National Park, through the involvement of the Park workers and subsidies granted to the town, resulted in the clearing of about ten cubic metres of land and the reconstruction of dry stone walls.

The Croix de La Loza culminates at 2,377 m in altitude at the summit of a perfectly rounded grassy dome. From there the hiker can enjoy a wide panorama since from this east-oriented prow, he will face the Upper Valley of Maurienne where there is a view of the valley line, from Lanslebourg to Bonneval-sur-Arc, bordered by impressive peaks. It is a herd of sheep from the village of Sollières which has its summer quarters on the alpine pasture of the Loza. Since the return of the wolf, a wooden chalet has been built providing shelter for the shepherd who stays there on a daily basis to ensure the safety of his flock. The Alpage de la Loza benefits from a contract between the farmer, the Chamber of Agriculture and the Park to lead agro-environmental measures conciliating pastoralism and the protection of species.

"The winter heath (Erica carnea) takes its name from its early blooming red or pink, ""flesh coloured” flowers (May-June). It is a protected plant in the Rhône-Alpes region and, although very rare throughout the rest of France, is common in Maurienne. On the Loza route, it reaches record altitudes in the last moors right under la Croix. In early summer, as soon as it has freshly snowed, your walk will take you through a real-life impressionist painting."

"It is not uncommon to see golden eagles on this route. The ingredients essential to the presence of this predator are all provided there. Good hunting grounds rich in prey and good lift for an excellent flight. The marmot unfortunately pays a heavy price given that it constitutes 80% of the eagle’s diet in summer. Chestnut brown in colour, with a 2.25 m wingspan, the golden eagle makes use of the slightest gusts of hot air and can often glide along on a single wingbeat for kilometres. In flight, its wingtips are well raised and its tail is fanned. To hunt it will accelerate near the relief and catch its prey by surprise at the turn of a natural obstacle. The bird of prey’s nest (often referred to as an ""eyrie"") is often located on the other side of the valley in a rocky bar at an altitude lower than the hunting ground so that the prey is easy to carry back by gravity."

The valley of Villeneuve is a wild environment dominated by big rock bars upstream and funnel-shaped forms downstream. The vegetation, consisting of scrawny mountain pines, is evidence of the pressure exerted by avalanches.

A private refuge built in 2014, the 52-seat Lo Tsamou refuge restaurant is entirely self-contained and eco-friendly. It offers panoramic views of the Vanoise and Haute Maurienne peaks. Welcome to the "Lo Tsamou" refuge, "Le Chamois" in local dialect. Perched at 2,060 m, it is a splendid destination for a walk (1h to 1h15) from the church of Saint Pierre d'Extravache, the first church in the Maurienne, a starting point for numerous hikes and a gourmet stopover. Our refuge is approved for minors and schoolchildren. We are companions of the FFRandonné route. We have been awarded the "refuge en famille" label by the FFCAM. The main walks/randos from our refuge: - The magnificent Bellecombe lakes loop - The short walk to Plan du Lac (accessible with a baby carriage) - La pointe de Lanserlia, ideal for a wild loop hike with spectacular views of the Vanoise glaciers (700+, unmarked). The surrounding mountain huts: Plan du Lac, Vallonbrun, Lac Blanc, La Femma, La Leisse, Col de la Vanoise and Arpont. Great hikes : Our refuge is ideal as a stopover on the GR5. It is also a popular starting/finishing point for the Vanoise glacier tour.

Summer: from the opening of the pass: 6 rooms. Old border, historic place of passage on the imperial road drawn by Napoleon (RD 1006). Traditional and sporty menus. Winter: the refuge is accessible by chairlift, on skis or on foot.

These three small chalets of stone, wood and slate huddled at 2320 m altitude are former alpine chalets fully restored. Centrally located at the Tour of the Vanoise Glaciers and the GR5. Easy access 30 min walk from the arrival of the Grand Jeu chairlift, 1 hour from the Carrière car park, 2 hours around the Plan d'Amont dam. Night, half-board, bivouac, local and "home-made" catering, picnic, drinks, blueberry pies... Terrace with a view of the dams, fountains... Discover the Fournache refuge, overlooking the Plan d'Amont and Plan d'Aval dams at the foot of the Dent Parrachée, at an altitude of 2340m on the edge of the Vanoise National Park and on the GR5. It is primarily a stage on the tour of the glaciers of the Vanoise. The refuge was built in stone, wood and slate in the purest mountain tradition, in place of a former Alpine chalet. The wooden interior offers a modern refuge while maintaining an authentic character. It enjoys an exceptional view over Lake Plan d'Amont and Plan d'Aval.
