Saint Stephen's Church of the 12th and 14th centuries The 12th century church was later enlarged and fortified and suffered from the Hundred Years Wars to the extent that the building was partly rebuilt in the 15th century. The nave was rebuilt very late. The church, not oriented, has a nave followed by a square transept and a choir with a flat chevet. The transept square, narrower than the nave, does not open in the axis of the nave. It is separated from it by piles reinforced in the 14th century and, together with the choir, constitutes the remaining part of the 12th century. In the south pier, a spiral staircase was built, serving the attic and the defences of the building. Two side chapels were built. The choir was revoked with warheads in the 15th century. The Château de la Faye, residence of the Seigneurs d'Auriac from the 15th to the 18th century, was built from a former watchtower for the warning and defence system organised in the 13th century by Alphonse de Poitiers to protect the châtellenie de Montignac from the English raids on Thenon. In the 14th or 15th century, this " keep " was flanked by two massive towers which made La Faye an important stronghold during the Hundred Years' War. The whole formed the southern facade of the present castle. A spiral staircase in the inner courtyard links these buildings together, leaving the dungeon without communicating with the rest of the castle. The castle then belonged to the de La Cropte family. In 1497 it passed by marriage to a bourgeois family from Montignac, the Arnals, who adopted the name of the land of La Faye. Pierre d'Arnal de La Faye in 1580 was captain of Montignac Château.

Situated to the north of Montignac-Lascaux, bordered to the south by the Vézère river, discover the broad horizons of the village of Les Farges. The Commune extends over Jurassic and Cretaceous limestone plateaux whose altitude varies from 200 to 260 m. A bastion of 100 metres dominates the valley of the Vézère to the east and the Cern to the north. A whole pattern of peaks and troughs provides many viewpoints and lookouts. To the south of the commune, on the large hill of Cheylard, built of sandstone & limestone, the remains of the church of the former parish of Cheylard from the 18th century still exist.
