In the 14th century, Antonne and Trigonant (Anthona, Tregonan) were two distinct parishes forming part of the châtellenie of Auberoche. When the cantons were created in 1790, the commune of Antonne became the chief town of the canton. Here in Bassillac, at the gates of Périgueux, evocations of the Resistance are spread out all along the path situated around an old maquis camp, the "Mercédès camp".
