Restored and refurbished in 2022, the Fontaine de la Dévotion is located just a few metres from the church of Saint-Michel de Rivière. It was a place of pagan worship before the Middle Ages and is said to have miraculous properties.

Church dating from the 12th century. The magnificent Romanesque facade in the Saintongeais style remains from this period. The modillions and sculpted scenes are very well preserved. Jean Hérier-Fonclaire, mayor of the commune from 1860 to 1870, had the old, dilapidated wooden church razed to the ground and rebuilt from 1868 to 1871 the present church in neo-gothic style. In 1883, a second bell was added to the bell tower (the first was cast in 1813); the Count of Saint-Saud ordered the organ from the renowned Joseph Merklin, who remained his property until 1951. Under the municipal mandate of Fernand Lapeyre, a clock with three dials was added to the bell tower in 1898. Although the church is not listed in the inventory of historical monuments, the lectern has been classified as a historical object since 1975; the lectern includes two eagles with crossed heads (eagles of Saint John and Saint Luke with cherubs and acanthus leaves); it dates from the 17th century, the base and foot from the 19th century.

Built between 1843 and 1845, this temple bears witness to the development of the Reformed religion in La Roche-Chalais in the 18th and 19th centuries. The municipality decided to transform it into a cultural hall, in which exhibitions of paintings and sculptures, conferences and classical music concerts are organised.

Parcoul borders the Charente department. In 1790, when the départements were created, the commune briefly belonged to Charente-Inférieure (now Charente-Maritime), before finally joining the Dordogne.
