Walk again under the pine trees and at a crossroads, reach the route leading to the top of Mount Lachens. 2 - Do not take the trail leading to the ruins of the castle (300m round trip) on the left and continue on the route marked in blue on the right. The winding trail rises above the plain of the Bruyère then rapidly goes into the woods, among boxwood, brooms (plants) and scots pines, until reaching a track (some steep sections!). Continue on this track 500m after passing a collar and just before a corner, take the poorly outlined path marked in blue, going up on the right. Reach further up the path leading to the peak of Mount Lachens 3 - Follow the road (white and red markings). Pass over a picnic area in front of a tank and take the path cutting the corner. Cross the road and continue up the path. Near the forest, continue the route on the ridge of Mount Lachens amid pastures and limestone pavements. Follow the ridge to the viewpoint. 4 - The tour ends at the top located at 1 685m, just opposite the peak of Mount Lachens (1 715m). The same route is used for the return.

A beautiful little enduro loop made up of two successive special stages. From the ridgeline of the Col Saint-Pierre, the trail drops into a gentle slope, winding through a half-shaded pine forest and a lovely upper singletrack that was specially cleared for mountain biking by local residents, a true sign of the village’s enthusiasm for the sport. Total circuit including connecting sections: 11km and 350m elevation gain/loss Enduro special stages: Special stage 1 (La St-Pierre haute): 1km and 90m descent/0m ascent Special stage 2 (La St-Pierre basse): 1.3km and 150m descent/0m ascent Type of riding: Enduro/e-MTB Route type (40% tracks, 15% roads, 35% trails) Duration: 1h 45m Signposting: yes Start: Village of Valderoure from Lake Valentin From the ridges of the Col Saint-Pierre, the route descends gradually through a semi-shaded pine forest and a lovely single track on the upper section, specially cleared for mountain biking by the villagers, a testament to the local enthusiasm for the sport. The descent is then interrupted by a track that joins a magnificent hairpin-bend trail in the second section, leading to the finish in Valderoure. From Lake Valentin, follow the path running alongside the lake through the pine forest at the far end. Turn left and continue straight on to join the “GR510” hiking trail, which connects directly to the tarmac “Chemin du Reyal”. Then turn right onto the RD2 departmental road. Watch out for motorists, who can sometimes drive fast, making this crossing dangerous. Turn left, then follow the Chemin de la Ferrière for about 1 kilometre to marker no. 184. Then head up the ascending track leading to the Col Saint-Pierre to marker no. 186. This track has a few steep sections, which might tempt some muscular mountain bikers to consider an e-MTB, but it remains relatively fast. Turn left to join the path that follows the ridge line to the left of the pass. This path, somewhat inconspicuous but identifiable, is steep for just 300 metres. It can be ridden by the more experienced or walked by those in no hurry. The start of the first special stage, ‘La Saint-Pierre Haute’, is marked by an enduro marker. The trail follows the ridge line downhill, then veers left onto a gently sloping section punctuated by bends and natural bumps. This fun section on loose ground stretches for about 1 kilometre and ends in a meadow. A short, more or less flat track section of around 500 metres leads to the second special stage, ‘La Saint-Pierre Basse’, which is also signposted. The stage begins on a magnificent single-track footpath, with a slight downhill slope after the first few hairpin bends, before opening out and becoming faster. Halfway through, the trail joins that of special stage no. 26, “La Fauchier”, sharing the same finish to the hamlet of Fauchier. The route has few technical sections and remains very pleasant. Watch out for walkers on the second half of the descent. The descent ends in the hamlet of Fauchier. At the end of the trail, at the junction, continue straight on along the tarmac road, then take a short stretch of path between the houses towards the village centre via the “Chemin des Faïsses”. Turn right onto ‘Rue de la Mairie’ to reach the RD2 road below. Turn left, walk 400 metres, then turn right onto ‘Chemin du Reyal’, which leads to the track back to Lake Valentin.

This route connects Peyroules to the hamlet of La Bâtie on a beautiful, steep downhill ride. Ideal for intermediate riders, this route winds through mid-mountain Pre-Alpine landscapes, featuring technical singletrack and smoother sections. The return leg follows a small road for about 4 km.

Starting from the village of Peyroules, this loop trail takes you on an exploration of the ridges and ravines of the hinterland, through scrubland and forests of oak and conifer trees The steady climb offers some nice technical sections without being too challenging. At the top of the route, there are sweeping views of the Pre-Alps and, on a clear day, all the way to the snow-capped peaks of the Mercantour.

Walk to the abandoned hamlet of Ville overlooking the Jabron valley and the village of Peyroules From the car park, follow the D452 towards la Foux on 300m. 1- At the village's exit (junction with D452 road of Mousteiret), go up the paved road to the left (rue du Collet). Pass a shed and take the path going left. Bypassing the valley, go up the hill passing through the pines and oaks. Further down, cross the small stream of Ste-Anne, and reach a wider path 100m further. Take this path for 500m and reach the junction with the itinerary of the Col des Portes. 2- Follow to the left the path to the Peyroules round-trip until the farmof the Pré Neuf. Follow the trail that bypasses the home. Quickly reach old cultivated areas. Follow the main road and go down towards the imposing Romanesque chapel and the abandoned hamlet of Ville. 3- After the chapel, at 200m, it's possible to follow the trail to the hilltop hamlet of Ville and to see the panorama of the valley. Otherwise, go down the path towards the southeast. Pass a small mountain pass. Go along the trail along the valley, cross the ravine of Ville and go down the hillside to the reach the road. Return to the starting point by the B-road; for about 800 m.

Hanging on the western slope of Mount Lachens stands the rock of Sainte-Madeleine. This rocky peak is covered by almost inaccessible ruins which were once a castrum, built in the 11th century. This is all that remains of the original village, besieged in the 14th century by Raymond de Turenne and destroyed during the religious wars. The residents have then decided to descend into the plain to create the municipalities of La Bastide and La Roque-Esclapon.

Sheep farming is still very present in Artuby and helps to maintain the landscape. You will definitely come across the flock while at the top of Mount Lachens.

Less than 1% of the surface of the Var exceeds 1500m. With its 1713m, Mount Lachens therefore has a dual climate originality. The first mountainous area to intercept depressions coming from the Gulf of Genoa, it is much wetter than the rest of the department, which enables, combined with low temperatures due to the altitude, the development of a remarkable mountain flora. This is how we are able to find the moonwort in the lawn which covers the top of Mount Lachens.

At 1714 m altitude and covering 43 hectares, Mont Lachens is the roof of the Var.

This fountain is located in a station of Saint-Pierre pilgrimage and thus allowed pilgrims to drink fresh water. It was moved, hence its recent appearance, and now benefits from a new catchment basin.

The parish church of Sainte-Anne is a religious building built in the 19th century (1830).

This cow wheat is very recognizable with its beautiful purple and yellow inflorescence. It is quite rare and grows in fields and wasteland of a few very sunny areas of the department. Its fruit contains two large poisonous seeds (poisonous aucubin in large quantities).

The Saint-Jean chapel was built outside the medieval village. Built into the rock, simple and low-built, this chapel was constructed by the Order of the Hospitaller of Saint John of Jerusalem, later called the Order of Malta. Since the 12th century, the choir of the churches is oriented east and more precisely where the sun rises on the day of the feast of their patron saint.

The Saint-André church probably dates back the early 13th century. The height of the building was raised after; we can see the marks of this change at the top of the walls. The bell tower was added in the 15th century. The covering, restored in 1996, shows different types of materials that mark these three steps: flagstones on the original chevet (apse), round tiles on the elevated part of the nave and glazed tiles on the bell tower.

This church was erected on the site of a penitents' chapel built in the 16th century and dedicated to Notre-Dame. In 1855, the bishop asked that the masses continue to be celebrated in the ruined chapel. In 1885, a new decision is taken to build this church. Construction will end in 1893. This church belonged to the Knights Templar of the Commandery of Ruou-Lorgues, then became the headquarters of an Order of the Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem.
