Description

Starting from the village of Peyroules, this loop trail takes you on an exploration of the ridges and ravines of the hinterland, through scrubland and forests of oak and conifer trees

The steady climb offers some nice technical sections without being too challenging. At the top of the route, there are sweeping views of the Pre-Alps and, on a clear day, all the way to the snow-capped peaks of the Mercantour.

Eglise saint Pons

Perché à 1200 mètres d'altitude, au dessus du village de Peyroules, cette ancienne église, abandonnée au cours du XX° siècle, a subi d'importants travaux de restauration.L'ancienne église paroissiale Saint-Pons de Peyroules a gardé sa fonction au moins jusqu'à la fin du XVIII° siècle. Le transfert de la paroisse à la succursale du hameau de la Rivière, actuel chef-lieu, a eu lieu peu après la construction de cette dernière, entre 1830 et 1832. Utilisée comme chapelle durant tout le XIX° siècle sous le vocable Saint-Antoine, patron de la paroisse, elle n'a été abandonnée qu'au milieu du XX° siècle. L'attachement des habitants et la volonté de la municipalité l'ont, à l'aube du XXI° siècle, sauvée de la ruine. source : Inventaire général du Patrimoine culturel Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
