Behind the Lavaud dam lies a huge lake, downstream from the source of the Charente. Its shores and beaches are ideal for hiking and swimming. Children?s games, a picnic area and pedal-boat hire are available for family fun. A restaurant and self-catering cottages are also available for a waterside stay. Swimming is supervised from July 8 to August 27, from 1:30 pm to 7 pm. Unsupervised beach on Tuesdays.

Situated on the border of the Charente and in the Périgord-Limousin Natural Park, Videix is known today thanks to the Chassagne beach and lake. Built on the Charente River, the site attracts locals and tourists alike thanks to its facilities: beach, children's playground, picnic area, restaurant, hamlet of gîtes, pedal boats in summer? Take a stroll around Videix on one of the two hiking trails: you'll appreciate the peace and quiet, the natural surroundings and the special features of its built heritage.

Situated on the Richard C?ur de Lion Route and in the Parc Naturel Périgord Limousin, the commune of Les Salles Lavauguyon is famous for its church, a masterpiece of Limousin Romanesque art. Discover the commune via its many hiking trails, or in a playful way on the Terra Aventura trail! And don't forget to visit the café associatif Chabatz d'entrar, next to the church (their events can be found on their Facebook page).

Chéronnac is located in the Périgord-Limousin Natural Park. The Charente river rises here, hence the village?s ancient name: Carentenago. The church is built on the site of a chapel, itself built on a motte castrale. The church was fortified until La Fronde. Not to be missed: the 13th-century portal and latch, and a 17th-century funerary liter painted with the Rousiers coat of arms. Situated on the banks of the Tardoire, the Peyrassoulat site, classified as a ZNIEFF, boasts exceptional flora: two enormous plane trees spread their branches over a width of some forty meters, and four yew trees have been present on the site for over 500 years. If you pass through the village of Montoume, you will be struck by the color of the stone of the houses. This red rock is in fact an impactite formed when a meteorite fell some 200 million years ago.

[Visitor restrictions, barrier in place for works] Les Salles-Lavauguyon church and priory, dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, are under the protection of Saint-Eutrope, the first bishop of Saintes. The portal is representative of Saintongeois Romanesque art. On the reverse of the façade, 4 bands illustrate the Old Testament: on the right, the nave walls depict Temptation, with Adam and Eve driven from Paradise; on the side walls, the martyrdoms of Saint Valérie and Saint Agathe; on the left, symmetrically, the massacre of the Holy Innocents, and the martyrdoms of Saint Laurent and Saint Christophe. A rich décor of foliage and animals adorns the nave?s historiated scenes. At the entrance to the choir, 2 frescoes depict Boso de Rochechouart and his successor Barnard at the head of the priory. Sixteenth-century frescoes complete the decor.

In the 9th century, a chapel was built on a motte castrale, which was replaced by a church in the 11th century. It was then fortified until the 17th century. The bell tower was thus transformed into a hoarding. In 1649, Monsieur de Pompadour, the King's Lieutenant in Limousin, ordered the destruction of the fortifications to punish the Seigneur de Chéronnac, one of the heroes of the Fronde. The church door features an attractive 13th-century lock. The building is also home to a 15th-century mural depicting a funeral tablet bearing the coat of arms of Monsieur de Rouziers, Seigneur de Chéronnac.

Did you know? The Charente River rises in Chéronnac and flows many kilometers into the Atlantic Ocean beyond Rochefort in Charente-Maritime. A curiosity not to be missed on your visit to our region, with a good picnic under your arm to prolong the pleasure!

This medieval castle from the 12th and 15th centuries, now in ruins, is located in the heart of the village of Lavauguyon. The castle, built on a slope, dominates the Tardoire in a remarkable setting. The interior of the château comprised two vast main buildings and a large chapel. Abandoned in the 18th century, it was dismantled during the French Revolution of 1789. From the outside, you can see the remains of the square porch keep and the curtain walls of the main enclosure, flanked by four corner towers and surrounded by fairly well-preserved moats. This site is maintained and preserved by the commune of Maisonnais-sur-Tardoire and the association "Les amis de Lavauguyon". The association regularly hosts volunteer workcamps, and offers introductory workshops in masonry and stonemasonry for the general public.

With a surface area of 7 hectares, the Boischenu lake is situated in a magnificent setting where you can relax in complete tranquillity. At your disposal: fishing (1st category, "night carp course", also PVT certified - pisciculture à Valorisation Touristique "carnassiers"), shaded picnic area, children's playground, fitness trail. It is not accessible for swimming. A campsite with rental accommodation and a restaurant welcome tourists on site.

Overlooking the Graine and Vayres valleys, the Château de Rochechouart has been home to the Musée d'art contemporain de la Haute-Vienne since 1985. Landscape, history and the imaginary are the three main themes behind the creation of this institution by the Conseil départemental de la Haute-Vienne. In a remarkable 15th-century building, the dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation has led to the creation of an international contemporary art collection, as well as the production of works more specific to the site. In 1989, with the creation of the Raoul Hausmann collection (comprising 600 works and numerous archives), the Museum found its tutelary figure in the famous Dadaist.

After a swim at La Chassagne beach, head to Le Treiz'Or, named after the river that feeds this part of the lake. Take advantage of the terrace, a stone's throw from the beach and overlooking the lake, for a convivial meal that's perfect for the whole family. The restaurant can also be privatized for special events: weddings, end-of-year meals?

L'Estaminet du Château is located in the historic center of Rochechouart. For all gourmets, dishes as beautiful as they are tasty are on offer, made with products carefully selected from local producers. To respect products and seasons, the menu changes every 15 days - 1 month, so there's no excuse not to return! In summer, enjoy the guiguette atmosphere and its concerts (program on the Facebook page).

While walking in the historical center of Rochechouart, you can stop at the hotel-restaurant de France. With a menu on a slate or of the day, you can be tempted by seasonal dishes cooked with local and regional products.

Located behind Rochechouart church, in the heart of the historic town center, Café des Sports offers fast food at lunchtime. A terrace is available for snacking: croque-monsieur, panini (ham and cheese, 4 cheeses), crêpes, cookies, ice creams and drinks to take away? For vegetarians, a 4-cheese panini awaits you. Snacking is only available from June to the end of October.
