The Lake hiking trail. A very dynamic village, Le Rouget is an attractive commercial and service centre. In the village, don't miss the modern church of St.Teresa, a place of contemporary sacred art with magnificent stained glass windows. At the start of the path, you can enjoy the pond of Moulin du Teil, its children's playgrounds, its picnic areas and its fitness trail. Mountain bike route "Tour in the Ségala". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points for €0.50. In the heart of the Châtaigneraie Cantalienne, you'll discover all the geographical and morphological diversity of the area. Between the granite reliefs, views of the Le Rouget and the Mounts of Cantal on the first part of the route, the unspoilt nature and Natura 2000® designation around the pretty village of Roumégoux and the more forested areas around Glénat a little further along the route, finishing on a section dominated by the south-western part of Lake Saint-Étienne-Cantalès. Departures: Le Rouget (Pond Moulin du Teil), Roumégoux (Rue Saint-Géraud) or La Ségalassière (Rue du Ségala).

This pleasant trail passes through a particularly well-preserved natural environment offering views of the Mounts of Cantal, particularly from the hamlets of Puech and Refrus. Hiking trail "des Fraulières". The village of Pers is located on the banks of Saint-Étienne-Cantalès Lake, a 562 ha reservoir. Through this path you will enter the domain of Jean des Fraulières, an old charcoal maker who supplied charcoal to all the surrounding communes of the lake. Along the way, you will discover a millstone, a fountain and a hut, all of which bear witness to the charcoal-making activity. You will also see the Ribeyrès Viaduct. Hiking trail "of the beautiful views”. Omps is a small medieval village grouped around its 12th century church in which one can admire a beautiful 16th century pietà. This circular village has typical old houses as well as a century-old fountain. Hiking trail "Between ovens and mills". This very pleasant route will allow you to discover the traditional built heritage of the Châtaigneraie, particularly in the hamlets of Labroussette, Lamélie and Maurian: houses, bread ovens, mills, barns and stables… A variety of landscapes and beautiful viewpoints will be offered to your eyes. Hiking trail "La Croix del fût". The village is situated in a granite country, with meadows and crops alternating with wooded areas. In the hamlets of Belaubre and Enfour, you will discover the traditional habitat with its red-tiled houses, with outside staircases leading to the wooden balcony facing south, topped by the plancadou where corn and chestnuts used to dry. On arrival, you will walk along the pond where the legend of the village bells still hangs in the air, on which, one mysterious day, the waters closed in. Hiking trail "Le Pénard". Saint-Mamet is a pretty, renovated village of granite houses with slate roofs. It has a 12th and 14th century Gothic church with an 18th century altarpiece. You can also walk in a pretty hardwood between Pénard and Fordamon. Hiking trail "Le Puy Saint-Laurent". A pretty village of granite houses with slate roofs, Saint-Mamet has a 12th and 14th century Gothic church with an 18th century altarpiece. This easy route is relatively shaded. At point 1, if you turn left (off the route), you can go to Puy Saint-Laurent (771 m): chapel and circular panorama over the Aurillac basin, the Mounts of Cantal, Lake Saint-Étienne-Cantalès and the neighbouring departments (toposcope). The pond of Moulin du Teil in Le Rouget has a children’s playground, picnic tables and barbecues, a fitness trail, etc. The tour can be done on foot (1.7 km) and two hiking trails leave from the lake (Lascombes-Basses, 6 km + Circuit du Lac, 10 km), as well as a mountain bike trail (Ronde en Ségala, 27,6 km). Trout fishing: day permit (€13) or holiday permit (€35) on sale at www.cartedepeche.fr + special authorization (€8) on sale in garden centre Destruels-Bouygues in Le Rouget and the Bar du Centre in Saint-Mamet. THE MAIN POND HAS BEEN DRAINED SINCE MID-JUNE 2024. Only the small pond is still in water and available for young anglers.

The Church of Saint Thérèse is a contemporary religious art place with stunning stained glass windows. The first stone of the church of St.Thérèse was laid in 1959, and the church was solemnly consecrated in 1962. Built in beautiful blue granite, it is modern while retaining an Auvergne style with a large bell tower. It has magnificent stained glass windows inspired by the language of flowers, created by the local artist Jean Labellie. Stained glass windows by the same artist are to be admired in the church of Saint Anne in Cayrols.

The village of Le Rouget is famous for its Sunday market. A little further north, Pers is close to the shores of Lake Saint-Étienne-Cantalès. These two very different villages merged in 2016, but their destinies have been linked for much longer...

Roumégoux, on the edge of Quercy, stands out like many other Cantal villages for the charming combed steeple of its church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The village is also famous for its chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Bourniou, which stands 2 km away. Don't miss the Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Grâces-du-Bourniou as well as the legendary Saint-Géraud Fountain, both located on the road to Saint-Saury (free visit, open in spring and summer).

Omps is a small village of medieval origin, as evidenced by the circular shape of the houses nestling around the church. The hiking trail that starts from Omps is called the "Path of beautiful views": and guess why?...

We're not talking about "galloping" demography yet, but it's clear that Parlan attracts many new inhabitants. Visitors, for their part, would be wrong to gallop along the village's 23 km of trails, so attractive is the surrounding countryside.

At 771 m, a toposcope offers a circular view of the Mounts of Cantal from Saint-Mamet. Chapel and calvary. Games for children, fitness trail. The Chapel of St. Lawrence was built in the Romanesque period, just like its “twin”, La Capelotte, in Roannes-Saint-Mary. Both are built in the same way, they are small buildings with small openings. At the top of the door, there is a bell gable.

Saint-Mamet-la-Salvetat, the second-largest commune in the Châtaigneraie Cantalienne, is its administrative centre. A large village with a wide range of shops and services, Saint-Mamet offers one of the most breathtaking views of the Mounts of Cantal.

The Roc Rôti is a megalithic complex whose menhir-like shape suggests that it was a place dedicated to Gallic worship. Also worth seeing in the direction of Sousceyrac: the Escalmels Chapel, the Luzette Memorial (in memory of the Resistance fighters of the Chénier field, a parachuting site during World War II).
