This hike links the two beaches of Val and La Siauve. The trail is laid out along its entire length, providing an opportunity to discover the landscape, history and botany of the banks of the Dordogne reservoir. The banks of the Bort-les-Orgues reservoir boast a remarkable diversity of habitats. The hiking trail follows the banks of the lake, ideal for aquatic plant and animal species. In turn, it crosses a wetland, climbs wooded slopes, then skirts rocks and small cliffs. Occasionally, it opens onto meadows populated by ancient orchards and bordered by low dry-stone walls. Departure point: Château de Val. Opposite the Château de Val, take the left bank, below the Capitainerie and parking lot. Wind your way through rocks, woods and streams.

A hike along the edge of the Artense plateau, discovering the hydroelectricity of the Dordogne basin. In 1970, Electricité de France began hydroelectrically harnessing the rivers of the Artense to provide the Bort-les-Orgues dam with additional water resources. Several dams and water intakes were created and interconnected by underground pipes. All this water will increase the electrical power of the Bort-les-Orgues dam. This hike takes you from the Artense plateau to the foot of the Bort-les-Orgues dam, where a forced-water pipe arrives. This pipe, which can be seen in Granges, is also known as the "Siphon de Granges". Once the water from the Artense plateau has been collected at the Auzerette hydroelectric plant, it is conveyed through an underground pipe that exits here to supply the Bort-les-Orgues plant. Departure point: kiosk in the Gane gardens. Go as far as the traffic circle and take the 1st right, then take the small alley on the left between low walls. At the end of the lane, turn right towards the nursery school.

A hike to the highest point (808 m) in the commune of Lanobre. The Fraysse site, a volcanic vestige of the Artense plateau, offers a 360° panorama and an orientation table. Some fifty volcanic edifices are scattered from the Artense to the Sumène and Dordogne valleys. Erected between 10 and 6.5 million years ago, all that remains of these volcanoes today are a few buttes, the remains of their chimneys (necks), a few prismatic flows and some spectacular domes and dome-falls. The volcanoes here are monogenic in nature, with each eruption producing just one type of lava in a short space of time. Departure point: Kiosk in the Gane gardens. Go as far as the traffic circle. Take the second right towards Le Bourg, then the first right. Cross Place de l'Église. In front of the town hall, turn right towards Champs-sur-Tarentaine-Marchal as far as the media library. Turn left into rue des Coustilles. At the intersection, follow signs for Farreyrolles.

This route takes you from the village of Lanobre to the bucolic setting of the Château de Val, nestled on a peninsula in the lake created on the Dordogne by the Bort-les-Orgues dam. Built in the 15th century on 13th-century ruins, Château de Val dominates the Bort-les-Orgues reservoir from its 30-metre rocky promontory. In 1951, when the valley was impounded for hydroelectric power generation, the château was spared, but three villages and a railroad line disappeared. In 1960, the Château de Val was featured in the film "Le Capitan", starring Bourvil and Jean Marais. Departure point: Kiosk in the Gane gardens. Go to the traffic circle and turn left into rue du Marché, then left again towards RD 922. Cross the road, turn left and immediately take the 1st right. Continue straight through the village of Estours to Val. Variant : Part of this circuit follows circuit no. 16, which links the Val site to the Siauve beach. This 5.8km out-and-back trail offers an opportunity to discover the landscape, history and botany of the banks of the Dordogne reservoir.

Massif du Sancy, Château de Val, Lac de Bort, Les Orgues, an itinerary all about exploration...Depart from the Place du Foirail. Go back up to the RD 979. Cross it and go up the few steps.Take the small road that rises above Bort. Pass behind the Virgin’s statue and continue. At the top of a slightly steeper slope, take a trail to the right. You reach the village of La Côte. Go through it. Turn right at the next road junction to join the D979.Follow it on the left for 700 m, leaving, on the right, the road that goes down to Les Aubazines. As you leave of the village of Vioux, turn right onto the path parallel to the B-road which eventually joins it.Cross over and take the small road opposite. After 200 m, turn left onto the rising track. When you arrive at the edge of the forest, take the path on the right and then the path on the left. Continue the ascent straight ahead. At the T-junction, take the path on the left which joins the forest track.Follow it to the left. At the Y-junction, turn left. The track becomes a small tarmac road.At the crossroads, turn right. At the next crossroads, follow Les Orgues. On your right, leave Chaumeil then Le Roussillou.200 m after Le Roussillou, take a path on the left. Go straight ahead when you reach the old barn. The path continues for a long time below the organ pipe rock formations.At the crossroads, turn left. Follow the road on the left for a few metres and find the path on the right which goes down to Bort. Take the D979 to the left to find the starting point again.

A hike to discover the history of Beaulieu: the ruins of the Château de Thynières, the hedgerows and the Bort-les-Orgues reservoir. Château de Thynières, an ancient medieval fortress that once ruled part of the Haute Auvergne region, belonged to Catherine de Médicis, daughter of Madeleine de la Tour d'Auvergne. In 1373, during the Hundred Years' War, it was probably taken and occupied by the English. Subsequently unoccupied, it fell into ruin at the end of the 15th century. The last owner, Dubois De St Etienne, acquired it in 1777 and kept it until the French Revolution. Departure point: Place de Beaulieu. From Place de Beaulieu, take the road to La Sagnolle, where you'll find a lovely landscape of hedgerows. At Thynières, leave the path and take the small footpath on the right to reach the castle ruins. The village of La Barrière offers panoramic views of the Bort-les-Orgues reservoir and the Château de Val.

This is a hike that gets as close as possible to the Correzian geological curiosity, the organ pipe-shaped rocks at Les Orgues de Bort.The itinerary starts at the Les Orgues car park. At the belvedere, take the path on the left and follow the blue markings in the undergrowth.Where the trail borders a meadow, turn right and continue straight ahead. At the house on the left, enter the woods.At the dry-stone wall, turn right. Go straight ahead towards a ruined barn, continue straight ahead. Go down through the woods, and in the bend, take a right turn. (before turning, a 50 metre round trip through the undergrowth on your left leads to a view over the Lac de Bort). Continue straight ahead. The Les Organs rock formations are on the right, and a view over the town on the left. Follow the trail halfway down the slope for a long distance, ignore a trail on the left (Bort information panel) and continue until you reach the road.Turn right onto the road, follow it for 100 metres. Go up the steps on your right. Also, turn right onto the next road. At the outer edge of the village of La Colombière, take the path to the right: leave a path on the right and follow the ""parking"" sign.Take the track to the left at the top of the path. At the Y-junction, go straight ahead. Then follow the path on the left before the entrance to the meadow to reach the esplanade."

Access to the courtyard and chapel is free, and tours can be guided or self-guided. All 3 floors of the château, as well as the framework of one of the 6 towers, are accessible. Every year since 1974, the Château has hosted exhibitions in partnership with the Galerie Christiane Vallé in Clermont-Ferrand. Built in the 15th century on a rocky spur more than 30 meters high, the Château's environment was altered by the construction of the Bort-les-Orgues hydroelectric dam in 1952. The valley it once overlooked was filled with water, and the château is now situated on a peninsula offering an exceptional, bucolic setting. Cinema: The château and its 6 emblematic towers played host to the cast and crew of the 1960 film "Le Capitan" (starring Bourvil and Jean Marais). It was also the setting for the entertainment show "Les traîtres saison 2" presented by Eric Antoine and broadcast on M6 in 2023. The château, park and chapel have been listed as historic monuments since 1990.

Situated at the foot of the sumptuous Châteaux de Val, the beach is supervised by a lifeguard during the summer months. Several activity providers (panoramic launches, accrobranche, towed buoys, canoe rental, inflatable structures on the water, etc.) and restaurants (restaurant, snack bar) are available on Val beach. Dogs are not allowed in the swimming area.

The Bort-les-Orgues dam is the water tower of the Dordogne valley, with a capacity of almost 500 million m3 - the 4th largest in France. The 120 m-high, 400 m-long arch-weight dam required 650,000 m3 of concrete for its construction. Two tours are available: - the EDF Odyssèlec space, a scenomuseum retracing the life of the dam from its construction to the present day, through a fun and educational trail, - a visit to the interior of the plant, from the control room to the engine room, via the tunnel. Tickets required (self-guided and guided tours), as places are limited, at www.tourisme-hautecorreze.fr or at the Tourist Information Offices of Tourisme Haute-Corrèze (Bort-les-Orgues, Meymac, Neuvic), or on site, subject to availability.

A huge, sumptuous artificial lake (1075 ha) stretching 21km along the Dordogne gorges, bordered by forests, banks, beaches and rocky peaks. Protected by the French coastal law, the lake retains the waters of the Dordogne, classified Natura 2000. Its biodiversity is rich: wild cats, rare birds of prey such as the Booted Eagle and the Common Raven, otters and pearl mussels, heritage forest flora such as the Orpin-hérissé. The Cantalien side of the river is part of the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d'Auvergne, while the Corrézien sector from Confolent Port Dieu belongs to the Parc Naturel Régional de Millevaches. Fed by numerous streams, it is one of France's largest reservoirs, bordering Cantal, Corrèze and Puy-de-Dôme. Hiking trails and small lookouts, in the form of rocky points accessible on foot, allow you to discover the Lac de Bort les Orgues.

Romanesque church. Year of construction: 12th century. Listed as a historical monument in 1963. Built in the Auvergne Romanesque style, the church is constructed of dressed stone and combines a central nave flanked by two side aisles. The nave has five bays, supported by square pillars with engaged columns on each face. The crossing is covered by a semi-dome on squinches, surmounted by a square bell tower. The apse is seven-sided, flanked by two semi-circular apses with semi-dome vaults. The western portal, dating from the 13th century, is surmounted by a niche that once held a wooden statue. The side walls are decorated with sculpted corbels, typical of Romanesque art. The church houses a remarkable collection of sculpted capitals, notably depicting doves, the archangel Gabriel, and the Virgin Mary. The capitals and piers feature historiated sculpture (figures, plant motifs), reflecting the influence of the Auvergne region. A memorial plaque commemorating the dead of the First World War (1914-1918) is kept in the church, in the north aisle. The church is a fine example of Romanesque art in the Haute-Auvergne region, with meticulously crafted decorative elements (corbels, capitals).
