This is the smallest commune in France by its surface area of about 3 ha. Built on a rock which gave it its extremely picturesque appearance, this former chief town of a seneschal of more than 80 parishes has kept from its prestigious past curiosities such as a castle tower, horse feeders in a monolithic block, a gate in the surrounding wall, buildings from the 17th and 18th century, a mill on the Segur. In addition to a very pleasant walk within the walls and around its promontory, you can take the hiking trails through the fields to discover vineyard huts and old windmills.

Originally, the church may have served as a chapel for the castle of Castelmoron. In 1875, the building was almost rebuilt. The nave and the lower sides, with particularly well-kept capitals with vegetal motifs, are in a very harmonious neo-gothic style. The gabled bell tower, modified by the piercing of a rose, recalls the medieval origin of the church. The cemetery, once adjoining, has been abandoned and a private house is now built on its site; the inhabitants of Castelmoron d'Albret are now buried in neighbouring communes.

Originally, the church of Saint-Hilaire was a Romanesque sanctuary. At the beginning of the 16th century, the nave was abandoned; the chevet, which has been preserved, was then protected by a Gothic nave with two ribbed bays without a capital. This modification leads to the orientation of the choir to the west, which is rare. The present entrance, located at the end of the nave, dates from 1725. The church is topped by a flat bell tower pierced with three bays, each of which has a bell; the top of the bell, with a wooden gallery, is accessed via a stair turret.

17th and 19th centuries The town's main street is home to a number of old houses, with facades 5 to 7 meters wide and 15 to 20 meters deep. These buildings testify to the existence of an ancient medieval subdivision system. This is characteristic of bastides, mercantile villages - housing markets - and street villages. Known as "Casal", this type of subdivision is the result of a rational method of occupying land in order to bring together scattered populations. The creation of these new villages began with the suburbs or agglomerations of "castelnaud", then rapidly became widespread, with the arrival of bastides, new towns and free towns in the third third of the 13th century. Inhabitants were given a "cazal", or allotment, where they had to build the front wall in the first year and the second wall in the following three years...

The church today consists of a panelled nave with bare walls, the chevet, vaulted on a cross-arch, having been separated from the nave, in modern times, by a wall pierced by a large arched door and intended to support the arcaded bell tower. The western door is Romanesque, but probably later. Corbels show that it was once protected by a porch. A low door has been opened in the southern wall, its lintel is formed by a monolithic tombstone decorated with a cross. The chevet was once lit from the east by an ogival window, now walled in. Keys on request from the town hall.

This church has undergone several construction campaigns. It opens by a door which dates from the 13th century, protected by a porch which was not in the axis of the nave but deported to the south. A tower bell tower occupied the northeast corner. Today, an ogival door surmounted by a pinnacle replaces the old door and a two-bay pediment topped by three pinnacles without style and without proportion has been built. The nave, which was simply panelled in 1856, was also covered with cross vaults imitating those on the lower side. The lower southern side was built at the beginning of the 16th century as well as the cross vault of the choir.

All products available at this restored former barn (with bread oven) are produced and processed on the farm itself. Produce: fattened ducks (force-feeding and processing), wines, maize, garden vegetables, and Bazadaise cattle breeding. Open Wednesday evening to Sunday midday by appointment only. The Moulin de Saint-Léger is located in the small village of Saint-Léger-de-Vignague, 3 km from the center of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, next to the 12th-century Romanesque church. The first traces of the building date back to the 11th century, when it was first a grain mill and then a sawmill, and it has retained all the charm of the "old stones".
