Leaving Rochechouart, head for the commune of Chéronnac, where the source of the river Charente is located. 1.5 kilometers further on, take a bend in the road to discover the exceptional natural site of Peyrassoulat and the Tardoire, home to multi-century-old trees. On the way back, cross the village of Biennac and its 13th-century church, and walk to the majestic Bramefan oak, measuring 4.60 m in circumference.

Leaving Rochechouart, drive towards Chéronnac, home to the source of the Charente! Follow its course to the Videix lake for a refreshing break. Pass through Saint-Gervais and see the buildings made of impactite stone, a rock formed by the fusion of meteorite (which crashed over 200 million years ago) and local minerals. In the hamlet of Pers, you'll find a stork well. Back in Rochechouart, you'll cross La Graine on the Roc du B?uf Roman bridge. This tour passes through part of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park.

The cycle route 93 will take you to the town of Rochechouart, its museum of contemporary art located in a castle, its historic streets and its space dedicated to the meteorite. Part of the itinerary will take you along the banks of the Vienne in a pleasant landscape.

The Espace Météorite Paul Pellas is a permanent exhibition space, with a range of activities focusing on a number of themes: the solar system, meteorites, the effects and consequences of falling objects, impact craters around the world, and the French Astroblème de Rochechouart-Chassenon crater. In an area of around 150 m², rock and meteorite samples, educational panels, models, computer terminals and video projections help you to better understand the subjects, and on your way out, you can stop by a small store.

Overlooking the Graine and Vayres valleys, the Château de Rochechouart has been home to the Musée d'art contemporain de la Haute-Vienne since 1985. Landscape, history and the imaginary are the three main themes behind the creation of this institution by the Conseil départemental de la Haute-Vienne. In a remarkable 15th-century building, the dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation has led to the creation of an international contemporary art collection, as well as the production of works more specific to the site. In 1989, with the creation of the Raoul Hausmann collection (comprising 600 works and numerous archives), the Museum found its tutelary figure in the famous Dadaist.

In the 9th century, the Charroux Abbey created a priory on the site of the present-day church. Consecrated in 1060 or 1067, Saint-Sauveur church is an exceptional example of 11th-century Romanesque art, in all its purity and austerity. Note the spiral-shaped spire, which dates from the late 18th century (1767-1774). Spires of this type are rare, and many people explain their shape by numerous legends... Note the frescoes inside, one from the 15th century, the other by Greschny in 1969. The church's gallery houses a Museum of Sacred Art.

Rochechouart has preserved traces of the fall of a meteorite 200 million years ago. The Maison de la Réserve (museum) is dedicated to protecting these rocks, which can be seen in many of the town's buildings. Its name is linked to the family of the Viscounts of Rochechouart, who reigned for over 800 years. The family's roots are to be found in the château, built on the rocky outcrop from the 13th century onwards. Since 1985, it has housed the departmental museum of contemporary art. The ancient fortified town boasts an exceptional built heritage: the church with its torso spire, houses built of impactite, the 15th-century Maison des Consuls? Rochechouart cemetery boasts a unique monument: the tomb of wine merchant Léonce Chabernaud. He died in 1953, and wanted a lightning wagon to be installed over his grave. The large barrel is made of concrete on wheels (the exact effigy of the lightning wagon), with a capacity of 100 hectolitres, and is mounted on rails. It is stained red, and the epitaph reads: "Léonce Chabernaud, vins en gros, Rochechouart".

With a surface area of 7 hectares, the Boischenu lake is situated in a magnificent setting where you can relax in complete tranquillity. At your disposal: fishing (1st category, "night carp course", also PVT certified - pisciculture à Valorisation Touristique "carnassiers"), shaded picnic area, children's playground, fitness trail. Her products can be found at the Rochechouart, Saint-Junien and Oradour-sur-Glane Tourist Offices, as well as at markets and the Lithos Mana boutique in Limoges. She also shares her knowledge and experience at events and walks.

Saint Julien de Brioude church was built in the 11th and 13th centuries. This Romanesque church is an example of transitional architecture from Romanesque (nave and choir) to Gothic (vaulting). Inside, you'll find the tomb of Simon de Cramaud, Cardinal and crusading warlord. The importance of such a church in this small village is due to the fact that Biennac was the head of a parish until the 18th century, on which Rochechouart depended. The attic space was built for defensive purposes, to guard against English invasions.

Looking to fill up on local produce? Look no further than L'Oignon fait la force, in Rochechouart! Organic vegetables and berries are grown here and sold direct from the farm on Fridays (June to December) from 4:30pm to 7pm. You'll also find natural sourdough bread, fruit juices, honey, eggs, preserved vegetables and local beers, among other things. Other sales outlets include: Biocoop in Saint-Junien, Saveurs fermières in Limoges, and the Rochechouart school restaurant.

Located behind Rochechouart church, in the heart of the historic town center, Café des Sports offers fast food at lunchtime. A terrace is available for snacking: croque-monsieur, panini (ham and cheese, 4 cheeses), crêpes, cookies, ice creams and drinks to take away? For vegetarians, a 4-cheese panini awaits you.
