It is between the slopes of the streams of the Vine and the Soudeillette on a rocky escarpment, that was built one of the most important and impregnable castles. The fief of the Ventadours, which stretches from the east of the lower Limousin to the west of the Auvergne, developed a new form of lyrical expression in the 12th century: Troubar art. It became a reference in all the European courts.

The impregnable and prestigious Chateau de Ventadour.From the church, pass in front of the town hall, go down the D124 and, at the granite cross inserted in a wall, turn left towards the houses. Continue by the path that descends, cross the bridge over the stream called the Vigne, leave the left path and go back up. Cut the D991 and take the path on the left. It rises up into the beech grove of puy Dru. On the plateau, continue to the left.Take the road to the right, then take the left fork onto the path. Continue by the road to the left and cross straight through the hamlet of Les Bouyges (the last house on the left shows, on a window lintel, a remarkable bas-relief representing two animals facing each other, possibly hares). Continue straight ahead along the path, at the fork go the right, then, at the second fork, on the left, and start the descent into the gorges. At the edge of the plateau, 100 m after the second fork on the left, you can access a view of the Soudeillette valley and the rocky spur where the fortress of Ventadour stands. Continue the descent, which becomes very steep along the quarry (take care), and you will reach the Pont des Bouyges car park.Cut the D991, go around the barn to the left and cross the meadow. Cross the footbridge over the Soudeillette, at the confluence with the Luzège and continue along the trail that enters the oak forest, the Bois du Claux. At the intersection, take the sunken path on the left and continue up the hill. Take the track to the left, then the road. Turn left and cross the Roudal bridge.Go up by the road on the right along the escarpment (which once protected the castle) and arrive at a junction, at the top of the hill on the left stands the Chateau de Ventadour home to Bernard de Ventadour, one of the most famous troubadours.Continue along the road. It leads to La Chanselve, then to Moustier-Ventadour. Turn left to return to the starting point.

Follow the royal road through the countryside to the village of Darnets and the Las Vergnas site. From the edge of Lac du Deiro to the wetlands of Las Vergnas, passing along the river, water accompanies your journey. This linear itinerary follows an old road, the voie royale, commissioned by Turgot, Intendant of Limousin, at the end of the 18th century. The church at Moustier-Ventadour was originally the chapel of a Benedictine priory founded under the obedience of Cluny by Viscount Ebles II in the early 12th century. The church was rebuilt in 1494. The current building is the result of the rebuilding of this chapel, of which the cornice of the chevet remains on the outside and the columns of the triumphal arch with their capitals on the inside, as well as two bays on the south façade. The west facade was restored in 1786. The church was listed as a Monument Historique in 1972.

Originally, the 12th-century Romanesque church consisted of a nave ending in a three-sided choir. The entire apse remains, with part of the nave walls surmounted in places by sculpted corbels, giving the whole structure a Romanesque appearance. The Gothic vaulting and three chapels near the choir date from the 16th century. The interior features thirteen carved shields and forty painted shields bearing the arms of the Soudeilles du Lieuteret, Ventadour and Famille de France families. The walls are decorated with three "liters" - black stripes painted to mark the death of a Lord or King - which are rare in this day and age. The oratory (Oradour, Limousin) houses a 16th-century polychrome limestone cross, listed as a Monument Historique, with one side depicting the crucifixion and the other the glorification of the Virgin.

Next to the church, the auratory-auvent houses one of the finest crosses in Corrèze. Made of limestone, it still bears traces of polychromy. On the front, Christ on the Cross is shown between the Virgin Mary and Saint John. At his feet, two kneeling angels support a coat-of-arms, unfortunately erased. On the reverse, the crowned Virgin and Child stands between two saints: a bishop and Saint Anthony the Abbot, accompanied by his pig. The ends of the cross are delicately flowered. At the north-west entrance to the village stands another highly original cross. It's a very archaic stele, or cross-piece, which is difficult to date. On either side, you can make out a Christ on the Cross surrounded by two figures. The sun and moon are depicted on either side of Christ's head.
