This 46-kilometre loop is designed for walkers wishing to discover the vineyards and heritage of Saint-Emilion over 1 or 2 days. The 1st part, to the south near Sainte-Terre, is easy and offers fine views over the Dordogne. From St Pey-d'Armens, you can reach Saint-Emilion via Saint-Hippolyte and Saint-Laurent-des-Combes (30 km loop). The 2nd part, north towards Montagne, is more undulating (a long climb of 10% from Château de Pressac). It offers panoramic views of the vineyards and monuments to discover.

This bike ride is for cyclists who would like to meet passionate winemakers. From the limestone plateau to the Barbanne valley, take narrow roads and cycle in the middle of the vineyards, away from all traffic.

If you'd like to cycle from Saint-Emilion to Bordeaux, or vice versa, you can do so on the former railway line, which has been converted into a cycle path and named the Roger Lapébie Trail after the winner of the Tour de France in 1937. The 49km route has one main difficulty, a 4km climb between Branne and Guillac. (n°11-12).

By letters patent dated June 7, 1289, Edward I, King of England and of Aquitaine fixed the boundary between Saint- Emilion and Pomerol at the « Tailhayhat » stream, from which the château gets its name. Purchased in 1932 by Philippe Nebout, the estate has been run by a company created by the Nebout heirs since 1981. Luc is the current winemaker and belongs to the 3rd Nebout generation at Tailhas. The Château du Tailhas vineyard covers 11 hectares in a single unit located on the southern slopes of the Pomerol plateau, bordering on the commune of Saint-Emilion to the east. It is therefore contiguous to the grands crus of that appellation, in the Figeac region. The siliceous soil mixed with fine gravel lies over a subsoil rich in sandstone with iron deposits (« crasse de fer »). Planted with Merlot (80%), Cabernet- Franc (10%) and Cabernet- Sauvignon (10%).

In Pomerol, Château Beauregard is a flagship from the smallest appellation of the great wines of Bordeaux. A Gironde charterhouse in bloom awaits you in the north-east of the village near Libourne. Created in the 11th century by the Knights of Malta, the Château was reborn in the 1990s after being bought by private investors. Come and share this new impetus in a property with refined charm. Renovation of the vineyard and cellars, plantations, soil drainage: the rehabilitation of Château Beauregard is now bearing fruit. At maturity, the grapes are picked by hand and stored in small 30 kilo crates to respect the integrity of each berry. Established in the heart of Saint-Émilion for 3 generations, Maison Galhaud is renowned for the quality of its Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wines, which have won numerous awards, as well as for the quality of its wine tourism services. A noble and ancient residence built in the 12th century on the ancient fortifications of the town of Saint-Émilion. Its monolithic cellars and ancient stone quarries are now used to mature our wines. During your visits, which are entirely free of charge, you can discover the remains of an old chapel and a grain silo from the Middle Ages.

This pretty building is the only timber-framed house in the village and has a facade dating from the 16th century and foundations dating from much earlier than this period. The Porte de la Cade`ne, the only interior door of the town, could take its name either from the Gascony word cadena, meaning "chai^ne", or from one of the owners of the house, Guillaume Renaud de la Cade`ne, who lived there in the 13th century. This door would have made it possible to socially adorn the noble population of the upper town and the more modest population of the lower town, thanks to a wine storehouse of which no trace remains today on the building.

This church, built between the 12th and 15th centuries, is one of the most imposing in the Gironde. It housed the Augustinian Canons' College which remained in this monastery until the end of the French Revolution. Testimony of many remodelling: Romanesque and Gothic styles cohabit both in the church and in its cloister.

The mound is a term specific to Saint-Émilion which designates the pedestrian streets with steep slopes and chaotic paving. There are 4 lanes so called in the city': the Tertre de la Tente, the Tertre des Vaillants, the Tertre de la Cadène and the Tertre de la Porte Saint-Martin.

Towards the end of the 11th century, a college of canons was instituted to bring rigour back into the life habits of the Saint-Emilion religious. A convent with its cloister and a Romanesque church was then erected, which became the collegiate church. Erected in the 12th century, the nave, as well as its porch surmounted by a shaved bell tower, have retained their Romanesque style. The choir dates from the 14th century and houses a listed organ, the only instrument built in 1892 by Gabriel Cavaillé-Coll, son of the famous organ builder of the 19th century, Aristide Cavaillé-Coll.
