All the cycle routes in the Deux-Sèvres Marais Poitevin have the same markings. On these markers (wooden beams with a turquoise plate), are indicated the numbers of the circuits in black. Here, follow the Number 5. The circuits are marked out in both directions, there is no specific starting point, you can start your walk wherever you like. Be careful, the small paths can be used by motorized vehicles. Safety instructions - Wearing a helmet is highly recommended. I ride on the right. I respect the rules of the road. Its name would be an alteration of forum (place of public meetings). In 1981, at Champ-Royal, excavations revealed the remains of an ancient vicus (small town) extending over three hectares with villas, baths, porticoes and forum. Mentioned for the first time in 1100, Fors is protected by its fortress, an advanced citadel of the castle of Niort erected by the Count of Poitou to delay the progression of attackers coming from the south. In 1494, the lord was Guy Poussard, a king's advisor, whose daughter Anne became the first mistress of the Count of Angouleme, the future Francis I, who would have built a manor house on the site of the castle. Thanks to archaeological excavations, we find traces of occupation of the Rochénard site since the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The 1978-79 excavations revealed a cemetery with burnt human and animal bones, fragments of ceramics and glass, as well as coins dating from the Roman period. You can find them at the Pierre-Henri Mitard cultural space in Usseau. Since 1287, the name of the commune has been in constant evolution but the toponymy is quite similar. The culture of the vine is the main activity of the commune in the XIXth century but the phylloxera puts an end to it. The inhabitants turned to livestock and cereal farming. Bessines was developed around the ancient estate of Bassinius, a rich Gallo-Roman landowner, and is situated at the crossroads of the Aunis and Poitou regions. Bordered by the Jaron reach and the Vieille Sèvre, this rural commune nestles on the side of a hillside that dominated the ancient Gulf of the Pictons. Its Romanesque church of Saint-Caprais, a stopover on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, and its three harbours open the door to the Marais Poitevin. In 2019, Usseau joins with Priaires and Thorigny-sur-le-Mignon to form the new commune of Val-du-Mignon and becomes its chief town.

Granzay, first mentioned in 1218, was mostly planted in vines before the appearance of phylloxera. His seigneury was part of the Frontenay castle. Mentioned in the censif of Chizé in 1250, Gript is in 1716 a village of 4 or 5 rustic hostels welcoming travelers passing through the main road. The two municipalities merged in 1972. 10 years later, is constructed a sundial, the only example of gnomonic realization undertaken on such a large scale for the contemporary period (170 tons, 17.30 m. of development on the ground and 5.25 m. high). Its situation allows a direct reading of the projected shadow. Thanks to its imposing size, a simple sight along the needles helps locate the North Star. The Granzay-Gript Micro-Folie is a platform for sharing works of art from major artistic and cultural institutions. In Granzay-Gript, it revolves around a Digital Museum where visitors can discover these works using touch-screen tablets. A Virtual Reality area with headsets is also available, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in cultural videos, all at 360° (ages 13 and up). The only example of gnomonic realisation undertaken on such an important scale for the contemporary period. Several times quoted to the Solar Sundials Commission for its precision rarely achieved on monumental Gnomonic works. It is at 1 min 52 s. of time of the meridian of Greenwich: situation allowing to make a direct reading of the projected shadow. It is a polar* sundial with 3 tables shifted by 4 hours, weighing 170 t., measuring 17.30 m. of development on the ground and 5.25 m. high. The polo or style-axis (= needle) casts its shadow on the reading table. Indication of solar time by Roman numerals, summer time by normal numerals and winter time by taking the middle (summer time - 1 and solar + 1). Thanks to its large size, a simple sight along the polos helps to locate the North Star.

Beauvoir, Belveer in 1228, offers a beautiful view. Grading work showed that the level of its pavement was the same as that of the extreme point of the bell tower of Notre-Dame de Niort. In the eighteenth century, the intendant Chebrou wrote: "It is a big village that consists of a square; in the middle of the square is a hall; there is a very considerable market". The prefect Dupin added in 1802: "There is a relay for the post office to horses, 6 big famous fairs for oxen, 5 windmills". In 2003, La Revêtizon merged with the municipality, joined by Le Cormenier in 2009. Today, Beauvoir is a very active centre of attraction in the south of Deux-Sèvres.
