This hike will lead you through the shadows of its woods and to the coolness provided by the Clain river which has carved out large valleys. The woods follow one another and give way to more open areas where rapeseed cultivation prevails. You will enjoy the diversity of the landscapes of a hilly territory, revealing its charms along the kilometers.

This hike will take you along the paths that were once used by the farmers of our corner of Poitou. You will walk between the cereal fields and, if you make this hike in April/May, you will be intoxicated by the honey perfume of the colza in flower.

Here flow the Bé and the Clain, hence the name of the circuit. By taking this route, you will cross zones of polyculture and breeding to plunge into the valley of Clain, rich in animal and plant species.

This circuit takes its name from the territories it follows, it offers two completely different landscapes: one closed (the heath) and the other open (the plains).

By taking this circuit, you will enjoy the red lands. A plateau common to three departments: Deux-Sèvres, Vienne and Charentes. These rich soils, favorable to the growth of chestnut trees and agricultural crops, shape a bocage landscape.

The penon is the pungent envelope that surrounds the chestnut, which is separated from it only when it is ripe. The red soil with chestnut trees and flint determines the landscape of St Romain and the neighboring villages.

This circuit owes its name to a historical or legendary fact. The villages crossed are made up of vast expanses of fields. Woods and groves crown the hills while the Dive and the Bouleure meander in the hollow of small valleys providing a soft freshness.

This circuit is mostly on a limestone soil, many dry stone walls still exist. The villages crossed are almost always built with the stones extracted near these.

Departure : Village of Anché The river Clain has dug its bed in the granite and limestone forming here and there some kind of big steps. Take these natural steps which could have been the legend of Rabelais' giants. On the road, discover two very beautiful castles, the castle of Anché and the castle of Cèdre, both dating from the 19th century. As you drive along the town of Champagné Saint-Hilaire, you may catch a glimpse of the magnificent racehorses for which the Saint-Hilaire stud farm is famous. Stop at the Espace naturel des Trois Fontaines with its picnic areas and numerous leisure activities.

The park passes through the small enclave of "groie" lands of the Civraisien en Poitou and also intermittently borders the Bouleure, a tributary of the Clain.

Discover one of the beautiful churches of Civraisien in Poitou in the south of the Vienne. The church of Saint Gervais Saint Protais dates from the 12th century and has a magnificent portal, registered in the inventory of Historic Monuments in 1925, with a very beautiful Romanesque decoration framed by blind arcatures. This portal is arched by two stone keystones decorated with sculptures protected by a molded archivolt. The keystones of the head arch are all decorated with a cabled animal resembling a seahorse.
