Discover Nedde, Haute-Vienne: Treasures and Adventures

The aim of this fifth stage of the GR® de Pays Monts et Barrages en Limousin is to discover the town of Les Pelauds and its rich heritage. Departing from Nedde, the path invites you to follow the Vienne River as it winds its way halfway up the slope, between lush green valleys and deep forests. A soothing route where nature reveals all its splendour, with the constant murmur of the river in the background. At the end of this short 11 km stage, you'll discover Eymoutiers, a small medieval town full of character. Take a break at Le Pré Lanaud, in the shade of sculptures by artist Christian Lapie, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the collegiate church and former convent. You can also visit the Espace Paul Rebeyrolle or follow the town?s tour route, which takes you through the town?s key sites and their history, or stroll through the streets and shops.

In the middle of the King of the Forests, you will breathe deeply to the top of the Haute-Vienne!At the intersection, take the road on your left.At the crossroads, take the leftmost path that climbs through the woods. Follow it, leaving the intersections to the right until you reach a crossroads of five paths.At the crossroads, take the track ahead and slightly to the right which goes down. Three hundred metres further on, take the track on the left between the brooms and continue until you reach the road leading to Croux.Take the road on your left until you reach the village. Go through the hamlet of Croux straight ahead and continue along the path after the houses. The path leads to a track: continue up the hill.Leave the track and take, immediately to the left, before the crow's feet, the path passing between the firs. Climb up until you see the site of the Three Crosses on your left.At the site of the Three Crosses, continue on the path down. Dangerous descent among the stone blocks. At the crossroads below, take the path that also goes up through the middle of the blocks and continue to the crossroads.At the crossroads of four paths, take the one on the right. Continue, ignoring the intersections, until you reach a forest track.When you get to the track, follow it to the left and, one kilometre further on, just before a bend, take the path that goes up through woods. Walk alongside a field and continue until you reach an intersection.At the intersection, continue straight ahead for a few metres and then turn left at the crossroads. Continue up to the road.Cross the road and go, opposite, in the direction of Mazeau Nicot. Go through the village and continue on this path until you reach the D21 road. Follow this to your right and continue until you reach the starting point.

This 194 km loop takes in the Plateau de Millevaches and the Monédières at altitudes ranging from 800 to 900 m, in the heart of wide-open spaces dotted with heather and fern moors, peat bogs and mainly coniferous and beech forests. In Corrèze, the GR® 440 crosses Treignac, Chaumeil, Saint-Yrieix le Déjalat, Bonnefond, Meymac (return journey of a few kilometers), Saint Merd les Oussines, Chavanac, Millevaches, Saint-Setiers, Peyrelevade. Between Chauzeix and Chaumeil, 500 m from the circuit, the Suc au May orientation table offers a magnificent panorama.

Follow the path for one kilometre through the forest to a small traditional building. Continue the track by going uphill to the right. The track turns into a road.Leave the path on your left. Continue on the road and follow it.When you reach the next road, take this one to the left. Follow it for 500 m.At the crossroads, take the track that goes uphill on the left. At the next junction, continue to the right.At the hairpin bend, take the path on the left. Continue for 1.5 kilometres. Cross the Lubet stream. Continue up to the road.When you arrive at the road, go straight ahead to reach the starting point of the hike. Variant (4km round trip): It is possible to go to the Château du Mazeau. Take the path that goes in front of the starting point, on the car park side.At the junction, take the leftmost path to the left. At the next intersection, go straight ahead and continue until you reach the chateau. Turn around to return to the starting point.

The protected site of the Négremont rocks is particularly pleasant. Situated in a steep-sided area, the Vienne River offers many picturesque granite boulders blunted by erosion. Oaks, birch and beech occupy the lower slopes.

Join Lac de Vassivière via the Col de Quenouille (694 m), the Roches Brunagères orientation table and the sculptures on the Poets' Path in the Bois de Crozat.

The GR®46 long-distance hiking trail links Tours to Toulouse over a total distance of 945 km. In Corrèze, the 150 km route leads from Lacelle in the north, in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional de Millevaches, to Turenne, one of France's most beautiful villages, with its superb castle perched on a rocky promontory offering 360° panoramic views over the Causse and Quercy landscapes. Along the way, you'll discover Treignac, a Petite Cité de Caractère nestled in the Massif des Monédières, and also Uzerche, labelled "Plus Beau Détour de France", otherwise known as La Perle du Limousin with its rich heritage. You don't have a car, or you're looking for an eco-responsible holiday? The entire itinerary can be completed from the stations at Lacelle, Uzerche, Vigeois, Estivaux, Allassac and Turenne.

Variant via Chamberet, 35 km on the way to Rocamadour and Santiago de Compostela.

At 500 m from the Vienne river and a hiking trail, for those who love fishing and wide open spaces, the nearby forest will give you all the pleasures of hiking and mountain biking and may be in season the picking of a nice basket of mushrooms. The gîte des soleils, located in the hamlet of Claveyrolas 87120 NEDDE in the Pays de Vassivière, is adjoining the gîte of Claveyrolas. The 2 gîtes have a capacity of 10 people. The relationship between plants and insects has a long history, so a large garden with multifunctional landscape and melliferous plantings has been laid out for the "happiness" of insects. Aromatic plants, flowers and herbs attract a wide range of species, which visitors can discover on the "insect walk". The pond and anthill are also important stages in this outdoor insect discovery trail. The vegetable garden and its aromatic and medicinal plants await you. You can discover the relationship between insects and plants, and then explore the natural garden to meet dragonflies, butterflies and living ants - the real tenants of the Cité des Insectes. Follow the signposts... Keep your eyes peeled for surprises at every turn!

In the Limousin mountains, an independent gîte fitted out in a 17th century farmhouse. The owners, who live nearby, will be pleased to show you their vegetable garden, the pony, the hens and rabbits in the farmyard.

In a typical hamlet of the Limousin mountains at 200 m. from the Vienne river, gite fitted out in an old farmhouse. It opens onto a shady courtyard and a meadow.

Chalendeix is nestled in the hinterland of Lake Vassivière and the green and wooded nature of the Millevaches Regional Nature Park. Beautiful stone barn restored with respect, it houses the family and, with completely independent access, the gite which can also be rented as a guest room. Music room or seminar room in another building on reservation.

At 3 km from the Lake of Vassivière, between Nedde and Beaumont du Lac, the totally independent house opens on a large courtyard and, accessible by a few steps, a partially enclosed lawn garden. Another large meadow is also available.

This château is the successor to an ancient medieval fortress, the remains of which could still be seen in 1900. It was built during the reign of Henri IV, in the late 16th or early 17th century. During the French Revolution, the château suffered some damage: the upper part of the keep, the corner turrets and weather vanes disappeared, and the coat of arms was removed. The château features a rectangular main building with a central staircase tower (donjon). This building is flanked on either side by a rectangular pavilion to the south and by the outbuildings to the north. The upper part of the keep retains the corbels that formed the machicolations and supported the crenellations. Inside, the spiral staircase was undoubtedly part of the medieval construction. The décor features carved woodwork, tapestries and painted ceilings with exposed beams... A

The Négremont boulders tower over the torrential course of the Vienne River, creating a series of beautiful waterfalls. The first waterfall, on the border between the Haute-Vienne and Creuse departments, marks the entrance to the site. The rocks then divide it into small cascades, followed by a succession of small rapids along the valley, dotted with oak and birch trees... This very pleasant landscape is listed under the 1930 law on the protection of natural monuments. In spring, a mauve-colored plant can be seen on the trail and in the vicinity of the site. Dog's tooth erythrone (Erythonium dens-cannis) is a protected plant (it is therefore forbidden to pick it). A 1.8 km hiking trail takes you through the area. Strollers and people with reduced mobility are not permitted.
