Le château de Nedde

Description

This château is the successor to an ancient medieval fortress, the remains of which could still be seen in 1900. It was built during the reign of Henri IV, in the late 16th or early 17th century. During the French Revolution, the château suffered some damage: the upper part of the keep, the corner turrets and weather vanes disappeared, and the coat of arms was removed. The château features a rectangular main building with a central staircase tower (donjon). This building is flanked on either side by a rectangular pavilion to the south and by the outbuildings to the north. The upper part of the keep retains the corbels that formed the machicolations and supported the crenellations. Inside, the spiral staircase was undoubtedly part of the medieval construction.
