From here, you can see the Saint-Pierre gate at the end of the road.From the square, take rue de la Halle near the theatre. At the end of the road, head to the old barracks via place des Bernardines and place Cretin, on your right. Go to the bridge across the Doubs by heading through place Jules Pagnier and rue de Morteau.From here, make a round trop (1.2 km) to the Armand Guy distillery via rue des Lavaux.On returning to rue de Morteau, enter the park on the edge of the Doubs and follow the embankments on a little adapted path; this will take you to the other side of the park. Join up with rue de la République by leaving the park through rue Julez Mathez, where you will find the Jeanne d’Arc high school.   On arriving at rue de la République, head left until you reach another bridge over the Doubs. From here, make a round trip to the Hospital to observe its facade and the two chapels that can be seen from the road.On returning to rue de la République, after crossing the bridge once more, head down rue Montrieux and take rue Gambetta on your right to reach place Saint-Bénigne and the church. From the square, head to the train station vie rue Tissot. From here, you can head directly to the Tourist Office via rue de la Gare. You can also make a round trip of under 2 km to the Chapelle de l’Espérance, with a stunning viewpoint over the whole city. It can be accessed by heading down rocade George Pompidou until you come to rue du Stand, then head under the railway and take rue de la Chapelle (yellow waymarking) directly to the viewpoint.

A quick peddle around the National Natural Reserve of the Remoray lake and the Saint Point lake, a circuit with diverse relief and marked by a belvedere that opens onto both lakes in the green valley of the High Doubs. From the centre of REMORAY, ) take the “route des Grandes Plaines” to your right (red MTB waymarking no. 12), which gradually ascends to a forest massif towards La Côte. Take a small muddy trail to the left, and join up with a forest path, continuing again to the left for around 900 m. In the wide bend to the right, turn left (MTB crossing) and exit onto a pasture. Follow the path to your left and then the white path that leads to Sur la Côte. Head up the earthy path to the right, through the pastures, towards la Grande Combe. Branch off to the left on a white path that heads into the forest and, after around 600 metres, turn right onto a grassy trail. From here, follow a succession of small muddy, grassy or stony trails that soon meet up with a forest road. Head down the road to your left, head past the Les Trois Portes chalet and branch off to the right to follow a path along the forest for around 1 km.Branch off to the left again and follow the forest path that meets up with a forest road after 450 m. Follow this road to the left for 150 m and take the path to the right.Joining up with a wide forest path just before descending to the village of Boujeons, do not miss the trail that turns left straight away (MTB path) and crosses through the pastures until coming to the village of Boujeons. Take the main village road by turning left, then turn right down towards the village sawmill. Cross a small bridge and leave the village, taking the tarmac road that ascends to your left and turns into a white path through the pastures until you reach La Plaine à Chaillet. Cross the pasture by turning left, then take the forest trail that opens onto a white path. Shortly after, turn left (MTB path) and cross the pastures using a small grassy trail until you come to Les Brétilles, just above Le Brey. Take the road to the left, without heading all the way down to the main road, and then follow a stony path that ascends into the forest through a clearing. Branch off to the right on a forest track that heads up to the BELVEDERE OF THE TWO LAKES (BELVEDERE DES DEUX LACS). Head down a small muddy trail to a road, then turn right to reach theRF Marcel Goux Parking lot. Head left to the Buclet intersection on the road towards Remoray. Follow the road to your left for 100 m and take the parallel forest path that once again comes out onto this road. Head up to REMORAY after crossing the bridge over the Drésine, a small river that feeds the Remoray lake.

Despite the rise to Fontenu, no real difficulty on this circuit which offer you pretty view on the lake and on villages like Fontenu and Marigny.

This trail will take you to discover Lake Chambly and Val. A preserved environment that makes it a place to relax, even if swimming is prohibited. Then you will go back on the plateau or succeed the meadows.

A succession of ascents and descents, paths, trails and little roads to reach the Morillon cliffs, the Langouette gorges and the belvedere of Les Prés Grillet. From CHAUX-DES-CROTENAY, head down the tarmac road (red MTB waymarking no. 69) towards Le Gros Tilleul. Turn right to reach La Fontaine Neuve and La Chaux Church. Branch off to the left on the tarmac road towards La Loye. Take the stony path that enters the forest to your right, towards La Côte Coulon and the Morillon cliffs in LE CERNOIS.Continue on the stony path that soon turns to tarmac and that runs along the cliffs and heads up to Le Rachet. Take the tarmac road to your right through the open combe of Entre-deux-Monts to reach the hamlet of Les Merets. Turn onto the road to your right and quickly turn left to take the stony path down towards the forest and up to the Étang des Drillettes (Drillettes lake). Continue on the muddy path that heads right up to Les Drillettes, and then take the long forest road along the Quenot rivulet to the road in Sous Grateloup. Carefully cross the départemental road and take the road opposite you that will lead you to the LAVOIR (washhouse) - LES PLANCHES-EN-MONTAGNE via La Fontenette and Le Girod. Continue on the main village road towards Bas du Village. Head down the road to your left and cross a bridge over the La Langouette gorges. Continue on the road, past LE MARTINET and reach Montliboz. Branch off to the right on a stony path that then heads up into the forest, towards Derrière la Montagne Ronde (“behind the round mountain”). Take the muddy path that follows along the right of the D 16 until you reach Chez Tatet, and then take the tarmac road down to La Feuillée au Loup. Turn left onto a small forest path towards La Voie Sacrée. Follow the white path to your right for 200 metres, and then turn left into an area with railings and a building. Follow a long and narrow trail through the forest. Exit onto a tarmac road, turn left and follow the trail to LES PRÉS GRILLETS. After the short out-and-back to the belvedere of Les Prés Grillets, continue on the tarmac road towards La Grande Cheminée. Descend to your left on the stony forest path and take the winding trail to your right to reach Les Messageries. Turn left on the tarmac road and reach the hamlet of Cornu. Continue left onto the road to the hamlet and then turn right just before the last farm. Head up the stony path through the pastures to reach Les Champs Montants. Turn right and return to your point of departure in CHAUX-DES-CROTENAY via a little stony path.

The village and castle of Verges, the combe of Ain, the site and village of Chatillon, the former railway tunnel ... This trail offers a natural walk in the heart of the forest of Heute. At the foot of the coast is the village of Verges and its castle dating from the 16th century

A diverse circuit focused around the subject of water with, at its highest point, a belvedere over the Remoray and Saint-Point lakes. Starting in the BREY town hall parking lot, the trail (yellow and blue waymarking) heads down the village via the road just below the main road, before leaving the hamlet by passing alongside the D 437. The path - which is suitable for vehicles - heads towards le Fuverat and passes through the artisanal zone, before leading to a new fork. The trail continues on a forest road that descends to the left. After crossing the « Lhaut » stream, the itinerary meets up with a road, in this open forest, that you will follow to the left. Walk past the Capucins source to reach the Lhaut bridge. The trail then heads back uphill for around 10 meters along the D437 (Take care when crossing the road!). At the junction with a forest road, climb the embankment and take the trail that gradually ascends through the forest, to access "route de Remoray", in Buclet.  To the left the circuit joins the RF Marcel Goux parking lot to access the forest road and follows this road 100m uphill before taking a steep trail opening on to the TWO LAKES BELVEDERE. With your back to the belvedere, a trail runs through the forest, crosses a pasture, before coming to a road just under the Brey hamlet. This trail then ascends to the right towards les Bretilles. Return to your starting point by heading down the farm road with low walls and ash trees to your left (take care when crossing the D437).

An MTB trail without difficulty and easy to cycle, to the sounds of the bell-wearing livestock, departing from Sarrageois, a village near Mouthe in the High-Doubs. From SARRAGEOIS, take chemin de Capiche (Green MTB waymark no. 99), a small road that ascends through pastures to the crossroads in La Capiche. Continue on this road, and enter the wood of la Pila, until you come to the Combe of Ashes. Branch off to the right on the road through the middle of pastures, towards Gros Buisson, and then Les Paris, before finally descending to MAISON DU BOIS. Take the road to the right just before the large village farm and follow a white path that ascends through the pastures to an MTB path. The grassy trail cuts through a pasture and continues on a trail through the undergrowth, before reaching le Lasenois.Turn left and follow the road down towards SARRAGEOIS and your starting point.

A lake, a stream, a river, waterfalls and gorges are on the naturally wealthy menu for this trail. For dessert, the works of the "tram" line and other quaint elements from the villages and hamlets you will pass through. The trail meets up the FONCINE-LE-BAS crossroads and ascends to the right (yellow waymarking) via the Grand-Vie farm road (oratory, former tramline crossing) before reaching Les Fumey. The grassy path to your right crosses the D 62. The road then serves the Fumey hamlet and leads to the Lac à la Dame crossroads. To your right, take the farm road uphill and follow along the Senge stream before fording the stream (pile of rocks). The trail skews off to the right into the forest (beautiful beech forest) and follows along a first clearing before descending towards the Cingernaux combe. Circumventing the combe, after a sharp turn, you will come to the D 127 in Malvaux (view onto the waterfalls of the la Ruine forebay). Cross the D 127, take the wide path below the road. Reach the LES-PLANCHES-EN-MONTAGNE WASHHOUSE by crossing the bridge over the Saine. The trail (white and red waymarking) follows the Landouette Gorges Trail to the left, which opens out onto le Martinet. The path then heads up the village following the road to the right (yellow waymarking) before reaching THE WASHHOUSE. To the left, the path heads along the Washhouse road (white and red waymarking) before heading up the Saine's right embankment and reaching the Fumey Badoz Factory Canal. To the right, the stony and shaded path (yellow waymarking) heads up the valley until it comes to the stream called la Pisse, which you will follow up to the left (passing under the viaduct) to reach Sous Bayard. The path heads up (white and red waymarking) the gorges of Malvaux, with a short section in the dark tunnel until it reaches the Douanets Viaduct. Cross the viaduct (yellow waymarking) to return to your starting point at the Champ de Mars.

The telecombi is a teleport with seats and cabins. The Télécombi du Mont Rond, coming from the Col de la Faucille, allows you to access the crests of the Haute Chaîne du Jura; it lifts you from 1323m to 1543m altitude. Once there, the hiker is only 30mn walk away to reach the Grand Mont Rond (1596m), and 2h for the Colomby de Gex (1689m). 2 blue pistes for all mountain biking are marked from the top of the télécombi. In winter, it allows snowshoe enthusiasts to reach the summits with ease and to enjoy the ridges. Please respect the regulations set up by the Natural Reserve of the Jura Range.

The Monts Jura offers the ideal altitude for hiking between 900 and 1723 m. There are marked and maintained trails waiting for you. Since Lélex, the gondola lift La Catheline brings you to the crests of the Haute Chaîne du Jura; climbing from 900m to 1450m altitude. When you get there, you are only an hour and a half walk away from the Crêt de la Neige (172 3m), the highest point in the Jura. At Lélex and Crozet, both gondolas are equipped for MTB riding in summer. Both the Catheline and the Fierney allow mountain bikers to go back up easily and quickly in order to better enjoy the descent on both sides of the mountain! Please note: electric mountain bikes are not allowed in the Catheline gondola. It enables snowshoe enthusiasts to reach the summits easily and enjoy the crests in winter. Built in 1771 based on the design of the knight d’Arçon, to replace the entrance across the ramparts, the Saint-Pierre entrance is now one of the symbols of Pontarlier. Remodelled during the 12th century, it has kept its classical style and is listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments. Adorned with lines reminiscent of the Arc de Triomphe, the entrance appears like a crown atop the rue de la République and marks a symbolic transition from the more contemporary districts and the historic centre. During the early 20th century, the theatre was built as a reception hall above the Pontarlier market-hall. These market-halls are reminiscent of the large fairs that have been held in the city since the 13th century. During the 14th century, these fairs experienced a boom when the Col de Jougne (15 km south) became a commercial crossing point between the North Sea and the Mediterranean. The congregation of Les Annonciades Célestes de Pontarlier was established in 1609 by six young women from Pontarlier. The monastery’s baroque-style door, created by the sculptor Joseph Guyon, can still be admired. Its portal, which has been classed a historical monument, was completed in 1715 based on the plans set out by Nicolas Callier, an architect and entrepreneur from Besançon, and was later modified during the 19th century. At the heart of the historic centre is the vast expanse offered by the Place d’Arçon where the town hall and the Pontarlier museum are both located. The first was completed in 1838 and originally housed an indoor market on the ground floor. A former coach house, to which it owes its name, the La Poste brewery received the 20th Century Heritage label for its Art-Deco style. It is also famous for having been the place where “Septième Juré” starring Bernard Blier and “Les Granges Brûlées” starring Simone Signoret and Alain Delon were both filmed. The history of Pontarlier is built around its advantageous geographical location: a crossroads during the Middle Ages between the North Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, it benefitted from passing trade but also suffered from military invasions. With many forests and a large amount of iron ore, this town was built on farming and craftmanship. Its border location enabled a constant flow of goods, people, know-how and capital. The opening of absinthe distilleries, sometimes in collaboration with Switzerland, generated a period of great prosperity in terms of the town’s development and cultural identity. These barracks, which were built with some of the money allocated by Louis XV to reconstruct Pontarlier after the fire in 1736, could house up to 200 men and just as many horses. The two L-shaped buildings were linked by a huge door, however, the municipality refused to close the square on the other side. This place was therefore split between a place of armament and a public place. In 1922, the door was removed, to allow for better circulation. (PNRHJ - Un tour en ville, “A tour of the town”)

Philippe Grenier, a native of Pontarlier, lived from 1865 to 1944. He is remembered by locals for having been a doctor to the poor, but also for having been the first Muslim member of the French Parliament, elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1896. Philippe Grenier was therefore a Muslim in a Catholic country, promoting a lifestyle without the consumption of alcohol in the land of absinthe, and yet respected for his integrity and devotion to the most disadvantaged. The train station was created following the opening of the Franco-Swiss line, which was a major asset for development in a region in which the road network was not yet fully operational. As a result, there was a bitter fight between Dole and Besançon for the railhead. Ultimately, this fight was won by the Jura and in 1860, the first stretch between Neuchâtel and Pontarlier was inaugurated. (PNRHJ - Un tour en ville, “A tour of the town”)
