This circuit is perfect for those who love nature, local heritage and getting away from it all.From the church at Beaumont-du-Lac, go down to the Town Hall. Before the fountain, turn right and go down to the D210.When you reach the road, turn left onto it and, 200 m further on, take a track on your right. Walk along beside the low stone wall.At the crossroads, turn left and continue until you reach the hamlet of "La Virolle".On the way, look at the Virolles cross in front of you. Take the road on the left and continue on to a more major road. Then turn right up the hill.Take the path that rises on the left and continues up to a mound. Continue along this path until you reach a tarmac road.When you reach the minor road, follow it on the right until you reach the D222. Cross it and continue on the left. A few dozen metres further on, take the trail on the right that leads you to the Lake Vassivière shoreline trail. Follow it to the left.After a good walk, at the crossroads, take the uphill path on the left to reach a road. `When you get to the road, follow it on the right for a few metres.When you reach the menhir, climb the hill behind it. At the top of the hill, take the Chemin des Poètes, the Poets' Path, to the left until you reach the point where five paths cross.At the crossroads, take the right-most track and continue up to the plateau: It is possible to go and see different viewpoints and exceptional sites by taking the path on your left. (1.5 km round trip). Orientation table, and, below on the right, the site of the Brunagères rocks. Continue on this path and go through a small metal gateway that allows you to climb up through dry heathland. Close the gate tightly, because a herd of harmless goats occupies the site. Once you have enjoyed the exceptional view and the tumulus, retrace your steps to the main path (where you turned left, and then pass in front of the orientation table)Once you reach the main trail, continue on the downward trail on your left to reach a crossroads with a tarmac track. Follow this track to the village of Quenouille.Go through the hamlet on your left. When you reach the road, follow it to the left and go down. After you pass the lavoir (the communal laundry), take the track on the left which passes between two low stone walls (Information panel "Chemin des Poètes", the Poets' Path). Continue along the path up to the forest track.At the track, turn right for 5 metres and then take the track on the left. Follow it until you reach another track.Turn right towards the woods. At the next crossing, continue straight ahead until you reach a pastured valley.Turn right before the tarmac portion. Ignore all the paths that go to the left or right, and continue straight ahead.Take the path on the left, which becomes a stone track. Follow the path until you reach the village and the church.

An original trail for a 30 km adventure on foot or by mountain bike around the lake: an undulating course between woods and moors, banks and peaks, footbridges on stilts, lake arms, dykes flush with the water and granite plank bridges. For the more experienced, variants allow you to extend the route to 50km. Take advantage of the different facets of the lake and walk according to your desires by boarding the shuttle boats (ask about their operation). The path leads to a track: continue up the hill.Leave the track and take, immediately to the left, before the crow's feet, the path passing between the firs. Climb up until you see the site of the Three Crosses on your left.At the site of the Three Crosses, continue on the path down. Dangerous descent among the stone blocks. At the crossroads below, take the path that also goes up through the middle of the blocks and continue to the crossroads.At the crossroads of four paths, take the one on the right. Continue, ignoring the intersections, until you reach a forest track.When you get to the track, follow it to the left and, one kilometre further on, just before a bend, take the path that goes up through woods. Walk alongside a field and continue until you reach an intersection.At the intersection, continue straight ahead for a few metres and then turn left at the crossroads. Continue up to the road.Cross the road and go, opposite, in the direction of Mazeau Nicot. Go through the village and continue on this path until you reach the D21 road. Follow this to your right and continue until you reach the starting point.

The "circuit des légendes" is a 23.5 km circuit around the lake, a large part of which was used during the 3 Tour de France time trials (1985,1990,1995) held at Vassivière. The great men of cycling who have fought it out on these Vassivière roads wanted this circuit to pay tribute to its greatest champion, Raymond Poulidor, who made his debut here.

Departing from Auphelle, this fourth stage of the 17km GR® de Pays Monts et Barrages en Limousin takes you to Nedde, in the heart of the Limousin mountains. For the first few kilometers, the trail skirts the shore of the lake, offering fine panoramic views of Vassivière Island. It then gradually moves away from the lake, winding its way through forests, moors and damp valleys, passing through the alvéoles, a typical feature of the Montagne Limousine. Along the way, you'll come to appreciate the tranquility of the landscape. On arrival, the picturesque village of Nedde welcomes you with its richly preserved heritage.

Walk alongside the beach at Auphelle and pass behind the hotel. Continue alongside the port of Auphelle and continue straight ahead.At the campsite turn right and continue straight ahead. Then pass between two stones and take the path through the forest. Continue through the Crozat Woods.Go back up onto the road, following it on the left, then 50 m further on take the trail to the left and, immediately, to the right. Cross the road and take the path opposite.When you reach the road, turn left and follow the road.Follow the path to the left along the lake. Go past a wooden pontoon and continue straight ahead.When you reach the road, turn left.When you arrive in Nergout, follow the trail to the left. Go down and then go up the stairs and along the beach. Go across the beach at Vauveix. Walk alongside the campsite and the pontoons.When you reach the road, follow the signs for Masgrangeas.After the snack bar, turn left and then right to go along a pontoon.After the pontoon turn left.At the road go towards Masgrangeas and turn left.Take the trail to the left.Take the path on the left just before the road.Turn right and do not miss the path on the left.At the road, turn left.Take the uphill path to the right.Once in the hamlet, at the road, turn left and go towards the path on the left.At the dike, take the road to the right.After the dike, take the trail immediately on the left.After the water ski base, turn to the left along the road to take the dam. The aim of this fifth stage of the GR® de Pays Monts et Barrages en Limousin is to discover the town of Les Pelauds and its rich heritage. Departing from Nedde, the path invites you to follow the Vienne River as it winds its way halfway up the slope, between lush green valleys and deep forests. A soothing route where nature reveals all its splendour, with the constant murmur of the river in the background. At the end of this short 11 km stage, you'll discover Eymoutiers, a small medieval town full of character. Take a break at Le Pré Lanaud, in the shade of sculptures by artist Christian Lapie, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the collegiate church and former convent. You can also visit the Espace Paul Rebeyrolle or follow the town?s tour route, which takes you through the town?s key sites and their history, or stroll through the streets and shops.

This 194 km loop takes in the Plateau de Millevaches and the Monédières at altitudes ranging from 800 to 900 m, in the heart of wide-open spaces dotted with heather and fern moors, peat bogs and mainly coniferous and beech forests. In Corrèze, the GR® 440 crosses Treignac, Chaumeil, Saint-Yrieix le Déjalat, Bonnefond, Meymac (return journey of a few kilometers), Saint Merd les Oussines, Chavanac, Millevaches, Saint-Setiers, Peyrelevade. Between Chauzeix and Chaumeil, 500 m from the circuit, the Suc au May orientation table offers a magnificent panorama.

During this hike, explore the communal laundry in Saint-Amand-le-Petit, the restored church, the old tram station and the weighbridge.Hiking from the town hall, take the road towards the D940-Lessilade. At the crossroads, take the road on the left for 50 metres, pausing to admire the weighbridge and the old tram station. Then turn around and follow the road to Eymoutiers for 150 m.Take the path on the left and go up to the clearing.At the clearing, go straight down to the road to Eymoutiers. Follow this road to the left and continue for 400 m.Take the small road on the right towards La Faye and continue until you reach the village. Go through the village of La Faye.Take a small path on the right which passes through woods for 20 m.At the end of the road, continue on the road to the right, going up towards the village of Saint-Amand-le-Petit.Walk past the Church of Saint-Amand and admire the granite cross. It is possible to enter the church through the wooden door below the gate. Push the door hard. The church is open all year round.

A remarkable hydroelectric heritage! The Vassivière dam, located on the Maulde river, supplies water to the Mazet underground hydroelectric plant at Peyrat-le-Château. In addition to producing electricity for 40,000 people a year (the equivalent of the town of Brive), this site helps to maintain the low-water level of the Vienne river and, thanks to its lake, is a major tourist attraction in the heart of the Limousin region. Originally a Romanesque church, it was rebuilt in 1496. It was part of the Eymoutiers chapter. Single nave, with north door and turret with loopholes. hopscotch game' engraved on a gable. Its relics were invoked to cure limp. The 14th-century altar cross is featured in exhibitions of Limousin art.

A so-called miraculous fountain, embedded in a rickety, timeless structure, with its well, its crooked cap and its water that has retained all its purity. The Christian faith, mixed with paganism, brought its saints and devotions to the fountain. Thus, processions of the sick and night dances followed one another around this purifying water.

Below the orientation table are the Roches Brunagères. Stones of legend, located on an exceptional site with panoramic views. They were long considered a Druidic monument. On 2 huge rocks, separated by a deep cavern, rests an immense stone forming a table on which are inlaid 5 large sarcophagi depicting heads and shoulders. Accessible via the "Autour du Bois de Crozat" and "Le Chemin des Poètes" hiking trails, or by geocaching.

At over 1,000 hectares, Lac de Vassivière is the largest lake in the Haute-Vienne region. It is a tourist resort with 5 supervised beaches, a wide range of accommodation (self-catering cottages, campsites, vacation villages, etc.), an International Center of Art and Landscape with its sculpture wood, cultural events (Festival du Conte, Festival Folie! Les mots, etc.), sports activities (equestrian center, hiking), a unique lakeside trail, shuttle boat and tourist train services, water sports (pedalos, canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, sailing base, windsurfing, water skiing, etc.). Natura 2000 site. Protected wetland. Visible from the circumlacustrine road at the junction of the D222 and D 43 bis. A peat bog is a wetland of stagnant water where plant organic matter (peat) accumulates in thicker and thicker strata, but very slowly, at a rate of one millimeter per year! The eastern part of the Monts et Barrages region is ideal for the formation of peat bogs (high rainfall; relief facilitating the accumulation of this water in the alveoli, the flat-bottomed granite basins of the Limousin mountains; cold climate; impermeable rock preventing infiltration). Fine examples can be seen in Beaumont-du-Lac, with the Tourbière de la Route Elevée. La Tourbière de la Route Elevée is a small peat bog located at the end of a pond. The site is home to a number of different peatland facies, but is currently quite degraded due to a number of factors

This tumulus is a burial mound. The small tower at its center is a later construction. Once very numerous, grouped in tumulair fields on peaks and ridges, Limousin mountain burial mounds can be identified by their sub-circular screes. Excavation of these mounds, which can be dated from the 8th century AD to the 1st century AD, frequently reveals an internal architecture protected by a stone covering; a central feature often houses a cinerary urn, and sometimes a burial site. Accessible via the 'Autour du Bois de Crozat' hiking trail or the Sentier des Poètes.

In Lou Balo Cubo dialect, the monolith is shaped like an elongated semicircle. A 30 cm-wide step is cut into the interior. On the opposite side, a notch in the stone allows the overflow to drain away. This basin always holds water, even in very dry weather. Some believe the basin dates back to the time of Julius Caesar. Another legend has it that, after being moved by the villagers, the ferry returned to its place by itself.

Natura 2000 site. Protected wetland. Peat bogs are highly specific natural environments in terms of their flora. Located at high altitude, they occupy the bottom of vast depressions or alveoli. The bottom of the alveolus shelters a peaty zone characterized by several typical peatland species: drosera (carnivorous plant), cottongrass, sphagnum moss, "four-cornered" heather, etc.

Natura 2000 site - Protected area. Situated on the edge of the circumlacustrine road, straddling the communes of Peyrat-le-Château and Beaumont-du-Lac, the Bois de Crozat is the highest point in Haute-Vienne (777m). Forested with oak and beech, this massif overlooks Lac de Vassivière. An important landscape unit of great visual and heritage quality, the Bois de Crozat is unique for the extent of its deciduous ecosystem, in an environment now dominated by coniferous trees.

A protected site, located on the site of the Brunagères rocks, the summit of Puy de la Besse (775m) offers a wide, circular view. It is one of the highest points in the Haute-Vienne. Located in the commune of Peyrat le Château, it overlooks the Bois de Crozat and Lac de Vassivière. Puy la Besse can be reached via several paths, including the Chemin des Poètes and the Tour du Bois de Crozat. Here you can discover the puy de la Besse tumulus, a 10m-high burial mound rising out of the heather moorland.
