Discover the charms of Chiny, Luxembourg, Luxembourg

The source of the River Semois is at Arlon, capital of the Belgian province of Luxembourg. It flows for 195km and changes its spelling to “Semoy” for the 20km or so of its route through France. For around 96km, from the La Vierre dam at Chiny as far as the French border, visitors can use canoes or kayaks all year round, depending on water levels. You can either travel the entire length in stages over several days, or you can enjoy day trips. As well as taking you through picturesque traditional villages, the Semois also flows through wooded national parks and under bridges built in the traditional local style.

A former capital of the powerful county of Chiny, all that this glorious past bestowed upon Chiny is the title of Town, whereas modern times have given it the far more enviable status of renowned centre of tourism. This walk will take you along the Semois and show you the wooded surroundings of this pleasant, lively and welcoming town. Want more? Cross over Pont Charreau with its lion gargoyles to reach the charming village of Termes. Then you will find a lovely view over the Semois in Breuvanne before heading to the Gros Cron in Lahage. On the way you will see the captivating lime tree in Gérouville, the beautiful Orval Abbey and the Gallo-Roman site of Chameleux.
