The Dronne Valley is, according to Harrison Barker, "a tributary of the Isle, which no one who has not stifled the love of beauty in his soul can see without being overcome by the charm of its gentle influence. The Dronne valley is characterized by its low altitude. On the hills with softened lines framing the banks of the Dronne and its affluents, the small lawns, dry moors and woodlands clinging to the slopes, bring a certain diversification and naturalness to the landscapes. This fourth stage will take you from Bourdeilles to Brantome.

Because of its insufficient flow in low water period, the Dronne is not a navigable river by the flat-bottomed boats which sailed on the Isle, the Vézère or the Dordogne. Its banks have been developed since the Middle Ages for the establishment of hydraulic flour mills, coupled with fisheries. Take a canoe trip down the river to discover some of the oldest and most beautiful mills in the valley (Moulin de Rochereuil, Moulin du Pont?)

This PR loop takes you up to an altitude of 205 m, over hills and valleys, through woods and small streams. This route is proposed by the Comité Régional de Randonnée Pédestre. Departing from a train station or TER bus stop, it allows you to join a walking or hiking itinerary, and to take an ecomobility trip!

Leave for 6 days and 150 km of horseback riding and discover the heritage of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin. This 5th stage will lead you from Brantôme to Milhac de Nontron (La Glaudie). In Brantôme, the Venice of Perigord, visit the town and admire the 1200 year old abbey. Then head to Champagnac de Bélair where you will notice the Château de la Borie dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. You will be able to make the horses drink at the fountain under the Vaugoubert cave, then you will notice the Château de Vaugoubert listed as a historical monument since 1948. Located on the right bank of the Dronne, it "governs the valley".

This circuit in eight will seduce you by the variety of its landscapes After refreshing yourself at the Fieux fountain and discovering the superb little hamlet of La Font de l'Auche, you can take a short gallop on the soft grassy paths at the feet of the horses that will lead you to Tocane-Saint-Apre. There you can stop for a picnic at the Dronne mill where you can splash around in the water with your horses.

The abbey of Chancelade near Périgueux is the magical setting where this route begins. After passing the last houses, the small roads will lead you through the woods to the Romanesque priory of Merlande, another enchanting place. Then by a road of crest you will join Mensignac on the heights between the two valleys, before going down towards the Dronne, its points of bathe, its mills its rocks of climbing.

Parish church of the 12th century, modified in the 19th century. Former dependency of the Abbey of Chancelade.

The Romanesque church Saint-Mandé-et-Notre-Dame was built in the 12th century and underwent many changes over the centuries. The interior consists of one single three-bay nave covered with a groin vault. The square choir is covered with a vault on top of which rises the belfry.

The St. Peter and St. Paul church of Bussac, built during the 12th century, was fortified during the Hundred Years War to serve as a refuge for the inhabitants of the village. The building is listed as a historical monument.

This picnic area is next to the Prieuré de Merlande, a listed site. You'll find 3 tables, litter garbage cans and a parking area. In the shade of the trees, you can then explore the site and follow the PDIPR hiking trail.

Built in the 12th century, the church Saint-Symphorien (St. Symphorian) of Sencenac depended in 1216 from the abbey of Chancelade and later in the 16th century from the bishops of Périgueux. The interior consists of one single nave followed by a semi dome choir. A timber structure covers the entire building.

Built in the 12th century, the parish church of Valeuil is dedicated to Saint Pantaleon, martyr of Nicomedia dead in the early 4th century and patron of physicians. The building is made of one single nave, an ante-choir covered with a cupola, followed by a semi dome choir. Listed as a Historical Monument since 1974.

From April to November, we welcome you to treat your taste buds with traditional, local and homemade cuisine in our hotel-restaurant. All our meals are prepared with fresh local products. We are open every evening from Thursday to Monday, we are also open on Saturday and Sunday for lunch.
