Guaranteed change of scene for lovers of untamed nature through the crossing of the woods "Bois de la Garenne" and the Negando marsh. This route is labeled and marked in blue by the Seine-et-Marne Departmental Hiking Committee. 1) Exit the train station on the right, then take Avenue de la Gare on the left. 2) Before the intersection, turn left, then straight ahead to pass behind the gymnasium and reach the D102. 3) Head right towards the town center, take Rue Geoffroy on the left, past the post office and the town hall. 4) Before the market square, take the street on the left that goes around the church and opens in front of the gîte. Further up, turn left into Cour Raphaël, then climb towards the stadium. 5) Turn left, then take the path on the right. 6) Cross the road, continue through the Grande-Laye woods and descend to the hamlet of La Chaussée. Take the D102 on the right. It crosses the Clignon valley. 7) After the bridge, turn left, then follow Rue de Moisy on the left. After the Commanderie, continue right along the Clignon Canal towpath. It crosses the Ourcq River on a canal bridge, which passes under the railway and opens onto the banks of the Ourcq Canal. 8) Follow the latter on the left until you reach the Neufchelles Bridge. 9) Turn left, cross the railway line, (CAUTION: dangerous crossing - be careful!), turn right, then use the Arcole footbridge to span the Ourcq River. Continue through the marsh. The path turns right then left before climbing into the Garenne Woods. At the edge of the woods, take the D102 on the right. At the entrance to Crouy, turn right at a sharp angle, cross the woods, pass the Notre-Dame-du-Chêne oratory, the Manoir aux Quatre-Vents, and emerge onto Avenue de la Gare. 10) Turn right to reach the parking lot.

You will appreciate the heritage richness and diversity of a well preserved nature thanks to this short shady itinerary. Coderando 77 yellow itinerary 1) From the train station, go right. Take the D94 on the right, cross the train tracks and the bridge over the Ourcq. Before the canal, turn left on the Ourcq canal’s towpath. 2) At the Gesvres’ bridge, go down on your left, cross the Ourcq and reach the moats of Gesvres’ castle. Turn left to take the road that goes through the marsh and crosses the train tracks. Take the D102 on the left for a few meters. 3) Take the path on the left. It goes along the Croix-Helene stream. Continue on the path that enters the Grande-Prairie marsh on the right (follow the markings) and follow the grassy path. After the water-treatment pool, enter the village via the rue du Cheval-Blanc. At the end of the street, turn left, go around the place through the right, take rue Geoffroy on the left, and the D102 on the right. 4) In the bend, take the path straight ahead. It enters the wood, takes you to the Notre-Dame-du-Chene oratory, turns left and passes in front of the Quatre-Vents manor to end on the avenue de la Gare. Follow it on the right and reach the train station.

Near the former border between Champagne and Ile-de-France, discover the fortresses and pleasure palaces that abound in the Crouy area. Please note: since 2025, for the safety of hikers, the loop is now walked in an anti-clockwise direction. This route is marked and signposted in yellow by Coderando 77. 1) From the station car park, walk past the keep and take Avenue de la Gare on the left. Walk through Champivert Park. Turn right at the park exit, then left onto Rue des Meuniers. Opposite Rue du Cheval Blanc, turn right onto a path that crosses the marsh and leads to the D102. -->> ALTERNATIVE ROUTE (15.5 km circuit): take the D102 on the right, cross the hamlet of Fussy and join the village of Certigny on the plateau. 2) Take the D102 on the right for 10 m, then right again. Cross the railway line and arrive near the moat of Gesvres Castle. 3) Turn left onto the paved path, cross the railway line (take care) and then turn right. Walk along the Bois de la Grange, cross the D102 and continue to the exit of the Bois de Raroy. Turn left towards the hamlet of Certigny and the old Colombier farm. 4) Take the street on the right and go straight down the path that crosses the valley and climbs back up to Coulombs en Valois. Take Rue des Dames de Chelles on the right, then Rue des Ménétriers on the left, which leads to the church. 5) Turn left, then right towards the Town Hall. Go down Rue de l'Église. Opposite the farm, turn left. At the crossroads, go straight ahead. Go down Rue du Puit d'Amour on the left, then turn right onto Rue des Canes. Turn left onto the D23 and go up to the right onto a path which, after 50 metres, veers left. Climb this steep slope, then descend before turning right onto a small road. This road becomes a path and enters a wood. Descend to the left along this good path lined with black locust trees. Opposite the gate to Bellevue Castle, turn right and cross the D94. 6) After the stadium, descend to the left and cross the Raphael courtyard. Turn right twice and go around the church. At the entrance to the market square, turn right onto Rue Geoffroy and find the D102. 7) At the right-hand bend, go straight ahead and enter the Bois de la Garenne woods. Pass the Oratoire de Notre Dame Duchêne and the Manoir aux Quatre Vents. Find Avenue de la Gare on the right to reach the car park.

Built around 1390, this keep is a monumental reminder of Crouy-sur-Ourcq's medieval heritage. Nestling at the bottom of the valley and built at the height of the 100 Years' War, it is the finest jewel in the crown of the Ourcq Valley. To delimit their vast territory, the Counts of Valois built defensive fortresses, often ostentatiously to show off their power and wealth. On the border with the lands of the Counts of Champagne, it was strategic to build this keep on the banks of the River Ourcq from the end of the 14th century. You can discover this keep, the only one in northern Seine-et-Marne and listed as a Historic Monument in 1962, during the European Heritage Days, or take a look at it from the outside during a walk in Crouy-sur-Ourcq.

Exceptional for the fauna and flora it shelters, it is part of the Natura 2000 site "Les Boucles de la Marne". Not so long ago, the Grand-Voyeux Regional Nature Reserve was still a quarry, where conveyors extracted sand and gravel with a crunch of grains. Excavated in the 1970s, the cavities were gradually transformed into waterholes, quickly colonised by reeds and birds, thus allowing nature to take over. The Maison du Grand-Voyeux is open to the public two days a week, with the aim of helping visitors discover the Grand-Voyeux while preserving biodiversity and the balance of the ecosystems. A discovery trail and observatories allow visitors to discover the incredible landscapes of the site and the multitude of bird species that have found refuge there. Nature activities, workshops and thematic conferences are also organised regularly and free of charge (see programme online at www.maisondugrandvoyeux.fr). Managed by the Agence des espaces verts (AEV) of the Île-de-France Region since 1999, it was classified as a Regional Nature Reserve in 2012. A partner of the AEV, the Association pour la Valorisation des Espaces Naturels du Grand Voyeux is responsible for the scientific monitoring of the site and for certain activities.

Inaugurated in 1868, this installation designed by hydraulic engineer Louis-Dominique Girard, allows water to be pumped from the Marne and thrusts it into the Ourcq canal located 250 meters higher up. The factory was to propel the water of the Marne located below towards the canal of Ourcq with the help of a machine with wheels turbines remained in a remarkable state of conservation. Two cast iron turbines of 10 meters in diameter operate by siphon, under a waterfall of 2 meters. They drive a set of four positive displacement pumps that can pump up to 38,000m3 of water per day. The AFLO association is responsible for the development of the plant.

The military cemetery and war memorial were erected in memory of the French soldiers who died fighting for the capture of Etrépilly on 7 September 1914 during the Battle of the Ourcq (6-9 September 1914). The Battle of the Ourcq (or Battle of Multien) was part of the large-scale operation that was the First Battle of the Marne. This French counter-offensive halted the Germans' advance and forced them to retreat further north. In the Ourcq region, and more specifically on the Multien plateau, the communes of Etrépilly, Douy-la-Ramée, Marcilly, Puisieux, Vincy-Manoeuvre and Trocy-en-Multien were the scene of fierce fighting. A hiking trail will allow you to walk in the footsteps of the "poilus" [literally, "the hairy ones" - a term of endearment for the French infantry of World War I] and wander through the landscapes that were, almost 100 years, a huge battlefield.

The Merovingian crypt of Jouarre, a jewel of Merovingian art, is unique in Europe. A visit will take you on a journey through time, transporting you from the reign of Dagobert to the French revolution and beyond. The Saint-Paul crypt is supported by two rows of three Gallo-Roman columns, topped by magnificent Merovingian capitals made of white marble. Along with the Saint-Ébrégisile crypt, they contain the tombs of the holy founders of the Notre-Dame de Jouarre abbey. A 7th century sculpture unique in the world can be discovered.

The locality first began to grow in the seventh century, with the foundation of the Abbey of Notre Dame by Adon, and its developing influence. Today, the Abbey houses religious treasures. The crypt of Saint Paul dates from the Merovingian period (seventh century) counting among the most ancient buildings in Europe. Inside, the three naves house the sarcophagi of the Abbey’s founders, decorated with bas-reliefs typical of seventh century sculpture. Also in the crypt there are marble pillars that show Roman influence. During the various invasions of the region, the nuns of Jouarre would apparently wall off this crypt, secreting it behind a false chapel. The church of Saint Pierre-Saint Paul, built in the fifteenth and sixteenth century, holds the reliquaries of the founding saints of the monastery of Notre Dame. A fifteenth century Pieta in polychrome stone, and a sixteenth century entombment in polychrome limestone, attributed to Michel Colombe, are also worth admiring. This museum of social anthropology has presented since opening in 1995 material witnesses to traditional society in the North East of the Seine-et-Marne, as well as municipal collections on Pierre Mac Orlan (1882-1970), a writer of "social fantasy", who lived for about forty years in Saint-Cyr-sur-Morin. In the old inn, “La Moderne” (a building that has been completely reconstructed and extended with a modern wing), a permanent exhibition evokes agriculture, breeding, village and semi urban crafts, the use of raw materials and the rural habitat in a sector heavily affected by the urban expansion of Marne-La Vallée. Specific areas are available to consult documents and videos on regional social anthropology the result of extensive collection work in the field.
