The legendary route over the passes from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean takes in the Haute-Garonne via some of the world-famous passes: Menté, Portet d'Aspet, etc. Travel by bike on these routes, where majestic views are the order of the day and the sporting character is on the agenda! On your pedals! The route starts at the Col de Peyresourde. However, the route can be taken in any direction.

One way. Linking Hendaye to Banyuls, the GR10 crosses the Haute-Garonne to the very south, in the heart of the Pyrenees. It passes through the town of Bagnères-de-Luchon and the village of Fos, the 2 stages of the GR10 in Haute-Garonne. This varied route between the towns of Oô and Melles crosses several passes over 2,000 metres high, but also descends into open valleys and passes through typical Pyrenean villages. The areas crossed have retained all their authenticity, and it is not uncommon to come across herds and shepherds along the way. The mountain landscapes are perfect for contemplation. Rather demanding, with steep gradients, it is popular with experienced hikers and requires good preparation and suitable equipment. Towns crossed: Luchon-Superbagnères resort, Bagnères de Luchon, Juzet-de-Luchon, Sode, Artigue, Fos, Melles.

Enduro - Altitude: max 2159m/mini 1583m. This bike park-style route will give you the impression of literally plunging into this wild valley. Traced through mountain pastures on a long ridge, with a beautiful viewpoint. The route starts at the top of the Cap de Palès chairlift.

Enduro – Altitude: max 2,175 m / min 1,585 m. It’s a beautiful, well-rounded descent: panoramic views, flow, technical sections and elevation changes, with a real mountain atmosphere. Designed for riders with some prior riding experience, it offers a smooth route punctuated by banked bends, undulating terrain and fast-flowing sections. The route starts at the top of the Lac chairlift.

Enduro – Altitude: max 1,740 m / min 1,670 m. This route is a slightly more challenging variation on a section of the PLB Blue Wave. It allows you to get a safe introduction to a more challenging style of downhill riding over a few bends before tackling more demanding routes.

The hike to the Cabane du Bout du Bois, starting from Les Agudes (Peyragudes resort), is best known as a snowshoe route in winter, but it is a very pleasant walk in summer. It is a family-friendly walk that allows you to explore the forest and the Larboust mountain pastures. From the Agudes car park, the path climbs gradually through a beautiful forest of beech and fir trees. The gradient remains steady, with no technically challenging sections, making it an ideal walk on hot days thanks to the shade provided by the trees. After half an hour’s walk, the forest thins out and the path opens onto a clearing where you’ll find the Cabane du Bout du Bois, an old shepherd’s hut situated on the boundary between the forest and the mountain pastures. The perfect spot for a picnic break!

The paths of freedom are routes that were used by around 90,000 people during the Second World War: resistance fighters, Allied pilots, Jews and those refusing to participate in the STO (compulsory labour service). By attempting to reach Spain, they all hoped to escape the Nazis who threatened their very existence. Haute-Garonne Tourisme and the association ""Chemins de la liberté par le Comminges et le Val d'Aran"" invite you to discover these historic routes while hiking. This is the second part of the walk that began at Port de Balès (see *Chemins de la Liberté*: *Opus No. 1*), from Portet-de-Luchon to Les Granges d’Astau. It is an easy walk and can be undertaken as a continuation of the first part. The suggested route follows the path taken by André Bon, and occasionally runs along tarmac roads. You’ll be walking in the footsteps of André Bon. This escapee was taken to Saléchan station via Toulouse thanks to the ‘Françoise’ resistance network, an early ‘helper’ who played a part in the escape of at least 700 people. Like André Bon, who made it all the way to Benasque in Spain, thousands braved the dangers of the mountains in the hope of finding freedom beyond the peaks of the Pyrenees. A perilous and gruelling human endeavour, this arduous crossing claimed the lives of more than 2,200 people, victims of the mountains or of Nazi troops. Recognisable by the cross on top of this erratic boulder, this walk offers a panoramic view of the Larboust valley. Depart from the car park at the entrance to Portet-de-Luchon, follow the road towards Poubeau, then follow the signs for Labach de Cathervielle. Cross the road to reach La Moraine, then take the Portet-de-Luchon path.

Cross-country – Altitude: max 1,600 m / min 623 m. An accessible and enjoyable route in the heart of the Larboust Valley, linking its traditional villages via beautiful trails and fun descents. With its forests, panoramic views and heritage sites, it’s the ideal outing for combining sport and exploration. Starting from Les Agudes, you head down the Chemin des Coustasses to the Gouaux de Larboust cemetery. You then continue towards Oô along an old footpath that has been re-routed for mountain biking. Take a moment to relax by the river in Oô before tackling the first climb towards Labach de Cazeaux. A short detour via the barns will give you a glimpse of the Pyrenean heritage, before you set off on a magnificent descent through the woods towards Cazeaux-de-Larboust. You’ll pass through Castillon-de-Larboust and Saint-Aventin, then tackle the Benqué climb up to Cazarilh-Laspènes, before a beautiful, technical final descent towards Luchon. Listed as a Historic Monument in 1971. Built in the 10th and 11th centuries. The main attraction of the Saint-Pé la Moraine Chapel, however, lies not in its architecture but in its exceptional decoration (sculptures, reused materials, etc.). Saint-Pierre or Saint-Pé-de-la-Moraine Chapel This pretty chapel is located on a moraine - large mass of ice - of the Larboust glacier. Saint-Pé-de-la-Moraine, built in a mixture of limestone, granite, shale and recuperation of ancient materials. Although reworked at the end of the Middle Ages, it is representative of the style of the first Romanesque art in this mountain Comminges of the Middle Ages based on the richness of its Gallo-Roman heritage. A few cinerary trough lids, these funerary urns, integrated into the chapel, are characterized by slightly less conventional representations. On the buttress of the chevet, notably on the base slab, the sculptor has added attributes (pottery and a series of tools) to the usual simple busts embodying the deceased. It is certainly their professional activity that we wanted to evoke. But the building was implanted in the middle of an area whose traces of occupation go back well beyond this period.Excavations have revealed that the chapel is at the heart of a Neolithic burial site. Inside, the stone paving, probably contemporary to the construction of the chapel, depicts a fish, a Christian symbol from the origins of Christianity. Refuge on the edge of Lac d'Oô. After around 1 hour's walk, you'll reach one of the most beautiful sites in Occitanie, with its majestic 275m waterfall. A popular destination for Pyrenean hikers, one of the attractions is its 275m-high waterfall. A warm and friendly little eagle's nest, the 30-seater Maupas refuge (3 bat-flancs for 10 people on 3 levels, no shower room or bathroom, a cold water point and an outside WC), invites you to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of summer by taking a step up into the heart of the Pyrenees! Away from the fine sand, but very close to peaks over 3000m and the Crabioules cirque; passing through forests of hundred-year-old beech trees, mountain pastures, streams and waterfalls! A beautiful succession of lakes teeming with fish, itineraries where you can often spot isards and vultures, beautiful rock faces to climb - all the elements are there to make your visit to Le Maupas a success. The Maupas refuge offers a remarkable view over the Cirque des Crabioules and Superbagnères. Situated close to the lakes, it is an essential stop-off point for anyone heading to the Pic du Maupas or the Pic de Boum. It is ideally situated for a stopover on a circular route between the Gouffre d’Enfer, the Cirque des Crabioules and the Lacs Bleu, Charles and Célinda. Set off from the car park at the bottom of the Lys Valley, above Luchon. Ascent time from the Lys Valley: 4–4½ hours, 1,300 metres of elevation gain through forests, meadows and lakes.
