The village of Champcella appears to have always been close to an important communication route: the Via Domitia; traces of human occupation dating back to the 1st century AD have been found there ! The walk starts at the church, where you should begin by observing the building to solve the first riddle.provence-alpes-cotedazur With your back to the church, take the road heading uphill and look for the "Mont Analogue" marker on your left after 30 meters. Continue uphill through the village, passing the town hall and the lodge, to reach the Place du Général Guieu, home to the war memorial, a cross, and the communal wash house. Turn right after the wash house onto Rue de la Cime de Ville and observe the house on your left just past number 39. Follow the dead-end street, then take the first path on the left running along a meadow; at the road, turn left, then right at the intersection to reach the Croix des Chapelles. Continue uphill, turn left at the junction toward "les Pasques," and take a break on the bench about 130 meters further along the right side of the path. Stay on the left-hand path that climbs past two large boulders, then continue left after 30 meters until you reach the Croix de la Gardette. Turn back, go about 100 meters, turn left, and walk past the pines, cairn, and two small rocks to join the trail that circles the Croix de la Gardette massif and leads back to the village. At the bottom of this path, walk between the houses to observe the facade of number 54, then turn right at the war memorial to return to the church.

A pathway steeped in history against a backdrop full of natural riches! From the chapel, cross the bridge over the Biaysse and immediately fork right and then left after 100 metres.  Take the gently rising path which twists and turns past some fine low stone walls and comes out onto a cultivated flat area.  Follow the path to the belvedere, making a there-and-back detour.  Follow the road right for 500 metres until you reach Pallon. Go through the village and, as you are leaving it, 100 metres after the wash house, take the track on the right which runs past a house with green shutters. The path drops back down to the chapel in Rame.

Running alternately through pine forest, aspens and lavender, this promises to be a delightful route Facing away from the entrance to the lake campsite, turn right to go through the village of La Roche-de-Rame along the Rue “Les Queyras”. After going past the cemetery, continue to the right.  Turn left. At the end of this track, at the D38 continue by turning right. A short distance further up, cross the bridge on the right after the Bouchouse hydroelectric power station. The route gradually rises until it runs at a height above the lake. At the Bel Pinet sector, take the track on the right to start the descent.  Where the tracks intersect, take the right-hand track to tackle the descent. At the next intersection, continue on the path on the right When you are back on the forest track, take a path running downhill below the hairpin and this brings you back to your starting point. 

The Le Lauzet circuit is a loop taking you on a discovery of the multi-faceted features of a high alpine territory! Facing away from the entrance to the lake campsite, turn right to go through the village of La Roche-de-Rame along the Rue Les Queyras. After going past the cemetery, continue to the right.  Turn left. At the end of this track, at the D38 continue by turning right. A little further up, cross the bridge on the right. After the Bouchouse hydroelectric power station, turn left and take the path leading off to the right. Carry on along this path until you reach the Bel Pinet sector.  At the Bel Pinet sector, take the path on the right to start the descent.  As you approach the pink marble quarries, take the path on the left. This is a technical section. Then after a succession of hairpins, continue straight on towards Le Lauzet. At the chalets in Le Lauzet, turn left onto a forest road. At Le Giet, continue straight ahead on a path which is technical in places. This brings you to the vast open pasture area of Pré Chapelle.  Take the track on the left running along the edge of a wood, the Bois du Sapet. In Le Puy, continue by taking the track on the right. Continue to the right. You pass a succession of hairpins and come to La Roche-de-Rame, through the Barthéou district.

Encounter mountain lakes and astonishing vantage points!&nbsp Facing away from the entrance to the lake campsite, turn right to go through the village of La Roche-de-Rame along the Rue “Les Queyras”. After going past the cemetery, continue to the right.  Turn left. At the end of this track, at the D38 continue by turning right. A little further up, cross the bridge on the right. After the Bouchouse hydroelectric power station, turn left. Carry on along the path until you come to the Bel Pinet sector. At the Bel Pinet sector, take the path on the right to start the descent.  As you approach the pink marble quarries, take the path on the left. This is a technical section. Then after a succession of hairpins, continue straight on towards Le Lauzet. At the chalets in Le Lauzet, turn left onto a forest road. In Le Giet, take the track on the right leading to the Collet du Peyron, the Lac Escur and then on to the Lac de l'Ascension. After the Lac de l'Ascension, you come to the Cabane de l'Alpavin and then Le Puy.  AIn Le Puy, continue by taking the track on the right. Continue to the right. You pass a succession of hairpins and come to La Roche-de-Rame, through the Barthéou district. 

A very scenic route alternating between forest and the hamlets of Champcella. The route starts at the bridge spanning the Pavis, amidst cool, fresh surrounding on a track running upstream along the right-hand bank of the Biaysse mountain stream. 700 metres from the starting point, leave the track and continue straight ahead towards Les Rousses In Les Rousses, when you come to the end of the track on a bend, head to the right on the paved road and continue on uphill. After 200 metres, leave the road right and then follow the track which crosses the road twice before coming to Rase de Roussac Rejoin the road and then carry on uphill. After 1 kilometre, turn right towards Les Faures and then carry on towards the Col des Combes At the Col des Combes, carry straight on along a balcony path 350 metres after crossing the mountain stream Le Gourenq, head right and go downhill towards the park country cabin ("Cabane Pastorale du Parc") and then La Muande At the end of the track, go right onto another track which follows the Biaysse downstream on the right-hand bank, bringing you to your starting point

Easy circuit along the Biaysse which takes you into a pleasant and peaceful environment surrounded by nature. The route starts at the Les Allouviers bus stop, on the left-hand bank of the Biaysse and opposite the campsite Go across the EDF dam and take the narrow path on the right above the road leading to the Les Allouviers campsite At the end of the track, continue straight ahead along a drivable track which follows the right-hand bank of the Biaysse After the descent, cross the church bridge and turn right towards Freissinières along the local road At the hamlet of Les Ribes in the Freissinières valley, turn right onto the D38b heading towards Le Pallon After going through the village of Freissinières, turn left to Les Meyries and 200 metres further on, bear right onto a stony track When you come to Le Plan, continue straight ahead, along a slightly zigzagging route At the end of the track, turn right to return to your starting point

Stroll around the charming village of La Roche-de-Rame, made up of several hamlets and its lake, which is very pleasant for swimming in summer. The walk starts from the town hall. Begin by observing this building in order to solve the first riddle. With your back to the town hall, turn right, cross the small bridge, then immediately turn right to go in front of the old forge, a small fully restored stone building. Go back the way you came, pass in front of the town hall, then turn left into Chemin de la Frairie. Enter the hamlet of Les Izoards and look for the house with a balcony at number 281. After the bend, take the path that climbs to the right along the canal. Continue on this path until you reach the road. Cross it and continue straight ahead towards “Pra Reboul.” Always keep right at the two intersections. The path starts to go downhill and you will pass a strange bunker-like structure: a captured spring. Continue downhill towards the lake. At the junction of the paths, enjoy the view. Do not take the fork on the right; continue straight on the path until you reach the intersection with the road. You will arrive at the parking area. Then head toward the lake and follow it on the left. Pass in front of the lakeside chalet and turn immediately left. At the entrance to the lake campsite, follow the sign for “centre village.” Walk along the campsite, then at the junction turn right. Continue straight ahead to the next junction and turn left. Then turn right into Chemin de la Mairie. Take the first street on the right and stop at the fountain. Continue on to the church. Turn back, cross the village square with the war memorial. Carefully cross the Gap road (RN94) toward the Lucéo economic initiative center. Look for and observe the fire pump. Feel free to take a walk through the park: a small herb garden is hidden near the back wall! Return to the square by crossing carefully again. Cross the square once more to go up the stairs alongside the shop. When you reach the road, continue straight ahead to return to your starting point. End of the walk.

A somewhat technical circuit, but one that is pleasant to travel in a totally natural environment offering numerous panoramic views. The circuit starts not far from the La Roche-de-Rame mayor's office ("Mairie") near the Bouchouse mountain stream. First, follow its left-hand bank, going upstream. 430 metres further up, cross the mountain stream and carry on along the right-hand bank. At the crossroads, turn right to cross the mountain stream again and carry on uphill towards Bel Pinet. Turn left towards Le Lauzet, winding uphill along a stony track When you come to Bel Pinet, at 1,400 m, head along the track on the right leading to Le Gorgoras, Le Clot du Villaron and Le Lauzet, passing near the pink marble quarry ("Carrière du Marbre Rose"), a marble used in the construction of numerous buildings such as Gap Cathedral ‌When you reach Le Lauzet, at 1,786 m, head left near the small lake to descend towards Bel Pinet via a different route  ‌Turn right onto a path to avoid the wide, twisting stony track, and follow this, crossing the track (Be sure to follow the waysigns and exercise caution: it is very stony terrain which makes some sections dangerous and technical) At the end of the path, head left onto the wide track and, after 300 metres, turn right to join a new path. This, too, is very technical. Continue to follow this path downhill, avoiding the wide track, until you come to the paved road at the Bouchouse hydroelectric power station and then on to your starting point

A pleasant route along a stony uphill track and a relatively technical downhill path. The circuit starts not far from the La Roche-de-Rame mayor's office ("Mairie") near the Bouchouse mountain stream. First, follow its left-hand bank, going upstream. 430 metres further up, cross the mountain stream and carry on along the right-hand bank. At the crossroads, turn right to cross the mountain stream again and carry on uphill towards Bel Pinet. Turn left towards Le Lauzet, winding uphill along a stony track When you reach Bel Pinet, at 1,400 m altitude, take the track on the left to the Calvary and the Bois du Truc 150 metres past the Calvary, at 1,561 m altitude, turn left to the Bois du Truc up a final short ascent  180 metres further on, at a set of gate posts, turn left onto the path below the track, to tackle the single-track descent (Caution! Quite steep downhill section to reach the path, and technical stretches on the path) At the Bois du Truc, at 1,510 m altitude, carry on down the single-track section towards Le Bathéou and La Roche-de-Rame (exercise caution on the numerous technical stretches) At Le Mas des Ducs, at 1,290 m altitude, carry on straight ahead towards Bathéou and La Roche-de-Rame Continue straight ahead along the track above Le Bathéou, heading towards Les Gillis and the dwellings At Les Gillis, turn left onto the D338. Then, 60 metres further on, turn left again to the village centre Turn right and follow the Bouchouse downstream on the right-hand bank. Then, after 170 metres cross the mountain stream, which brings you back to the mayor's office and your starting point

For little ones (ages 1 and up) accompanied by an adult—and even for grown-ups. The course is open during the operating hours of the Rocherousse Telemix.

Discover Orcières Merlette 1850 at altitude this summer In summer, three Télémix® lifts (Rocherousse, Drouvet I and Drouvet II) take you to the heart of the Orcières Merlette 1850 ski area, up to 2280 m at the Rocherousse plateau and 2650 m at the Drouvet summit. These mixed lifts (cabins and seats) allow you to : - Take advantage of our mountain bike playground; - Explore the emblematic trails, including the Monde des 6 Lacs, a magical hike between high altitude lakes and wide open spaces; - Enjoy a meal at the Rocherousse mountain restaurant; - Have some family fun with the ‘Roule Ma Boule’ games; - Try your hand at the Roll Air Cable, one of the longest zip lines in Europe: 1.8 km of head-first descent between the summit of Drouvet (2650 m) and Lac Long (2500 m), for 1 minute 20 of unique sensations. A special family trail ! Climbing, kayaking on a high altitude lake, mountain biking, orienteering, meeting a shepherd, and ending with a bivouac evening with a meal and star gazing. Departure Thursday in the morning (staggered), return Friday, around 11:30am.

Built at the sources of the White Drac, near the disused Champoléon cabin, this refuge with its stone roof offers tasty regional food at lunchtime and copious Alpine meals in the evening. The refuge is easy to access for families: 1 hr 30 mins from the Auberts car park (elevation: 350 m). Large number of hiking trails leaving from the refuge.

The name Champcella came from champ caché, or hidden field. And it's true that, nestling on a flat ledge, the village cannot be seen from the Durance valley. As you gain height above the village, a number of clues as to its past agricultural tradition are still in evidence. The crops have disappeared, replaced by meadows, but the old walls, canals and stone piles - formed by the patient clearing of stones from the fields - are a reminder of bygone times.

The history of plants is fascinating. A large number of messicole plants (those associated with crops), like the poppy and the cornflower, arrived from the Mediterranean basin or the Middle East as seeds, mixed with cereal seeds, as far back as the very first trading activity in prehistory. Unfortunately, herbicides have led to their virtual disappearance and mountain farming has become their last refuge. And so the summer pheasant's-eye, with its splendid but discreet flowers, still grows here.

The Sentier du Gouffre has sometimes been described as a Roman road, but we do not know the exact route the Roman road followed. One thing is certain, it used to be used by the villagers to reach their fields and vineyards, and for any other journeys they had to make.

This species of grasshopper favours islands of gravel, sand banks, and the edges of meandering mountain streams. These habitats are increasingly rare because rivers have been reworked, dammed up or dredged for gravel extraction. So this grasshopper, along with several others, has become critically endangered. The Durance population is one of the few remaining populations in Europe.

Protected from Atlantic influences by the Massif du Pelvoux, the high Durance valley has a very dry climate with wide seasonal temperature fluctuations. It has grasslands very similar to the steppes of Central Europe which are rare in France. It is part of the Natura 2000 “Steppique durancien et queyrassien” (Durance and Queras valley steppes) site.

In the nineteenth century, there were four quarries in La Roche-de-Rame. They exploited deposits of metamorphosed limestone which was pink in colour. One of these, the Combe Mounière quarry, produced stone which was used in particular in the construction of the new Cathedral of Saint-Arnoux in Gap, between 1866 and 1904. When exposed to the elements, the surface of the limestone takes on a grey patina.

In ancient times, the Durance valley was a key communication corridor. Rama was a kind of staging post on the Roman road. In the Middle Ages, Rama was a small town with a noble's château. But the village was devastated by the capriciousness of the Durance and the Biaysse rivers on numerous occasions and the inhabitants gradually deserted the site, moving to neighbouring villages. The attachment of the parish of Rame to that of La Roche in 1446 is indicative of this decline.

This large toad only lives in the ponds during the spawning season, leaving its long strings of toad spawn in the water. So here in the artificial Lac de Rama it has found a habitat to ensure its survival. After the spawning season, it returns to the cool, wooded areas where it hunts small invertebrates at night and spends the day hiding underneath wood or stones or in underground crevices. In hibernates in cavities, protected from freezing temperatures.

At small colony of jackdaws has taken up residence in the ravine. A member of the Corvidae family, the jackdaw can be identified by its small size and grey plumage with darker wings and a black cap on its head. It is a species not often found in the mountains, remaining in the valley bottoms and generally found no higher than 1,500 metres. It nests on cliffs or in human habitats: castles, towers and ruined buildings!

Europe's biggest owl, the Eurasian eagle-owl lives in the vicinity of the ravine. It nests on ledges on the cliff faces but has a very large home range, hutting not only large insects but also snakes, voles, hares etc. Unfortunately, it is very sensitive to disturbance and has already deserted a large number of rock faces now used as climbing routes and equipped with via ferratas. It has also fallen victim to collisions with electricity lines. 

Come for lunch or dinner in the exceptionnal setting of this inn ! The Arpelin is located at an altitude of 1745m, on the Great Alps road and at the foot of the mythical Col de l'Izoard. Aperonomy: Spritzs, good beers, a selected wine list and, of course, a whole range of softs for an aperitif by the fire or on the terrace, depending on the season.

A large number of hikes leave from the refuge: Cascade de la Pisse (20 mins), Col de la Vénasque (3h), Col de Côte Longue (4h), the summit of Le Vieux Chaillol (3163 m), but also the unspoilt valleys of the Muande and Mal Cros! A little paradise only a 1 hr 30 min walk away! Elevation 345 metres.

Practical Information Capacity: 5 people maximum Amenities: living area equipped with a wood-burning stove, a gas stove, a refrigerator, a sink, a table and benches, as well as all necessary dishes and utensils. Dormitory upstairs. Bathroom and toilet accessible from outside. Parking: Do not park in the Puy Chalvin parking lots.

Le Guilazur is located in the center of the village, on a shady terrace where time stretches out. Here, the welcome is straightforward and simply warm. Next to hiking and mountainbike trails. In winter: the hotel also welcomes school classes, groupes and enterprises.

To enter this house of character is to find the atmosphere of a real "fuste" (traditional house of Saint Véran). To be welcomed by Félicie and François' kind smile is already the promise of a successful stay! To find yourself, to relax, to appreciate the know-how and to take full advantage of the Queyras. The rooms, all different, are distributed in this old fuste (traditional habitat of Saint Véran) from the second floor to the roofs. All renovated, they have their own charm with a view on the surrounding mountain. From the attic room to the room with balcony, they offer elegant and functional comfort in a warm atmosphere. They are all equipped with private bathrooms. The rooms can accommodate from 1 to 6 people. Bed linen and towels are provided. The hosts did not wish to equip the rooms with television or wifi for more conviviality within the house. However, a TV room and a wifi area are available in the living rooms. With family or friends, the living rooms allow you to relax in an authentic setting, by the fire, between stones and old larch. Every evening, we prepare delicious dishes mainly made from local and organic products. They will be served in a restaurant room fitted out in the old sheepfold of the house with the still intact Italian vaults. Don't forget to take your bathing suit to enjoy the sauna!

A part of the house is reserved for hikers. Our gîte d'étape, entirely renovated, can accommodate up to 20 people. It is composed of dormitories (max 8 places) and rooms of 2 persons. Sanitary facilities and toilets are shared. Don't forget to bring your comforter and your towel! With family or friends, the lounges will allow you to relax in an authentic setting, by the fire, between stones and old larches.
