In the heart of the medieval village of Le Chalard, dominated by its Romanesque church and monks' cemetery, the St Geoffroy fountain awaits you along the way. Explore the Limousin countryside in the shade of hazel and oak trees, enjoying the coolness of a pond. You'll also see the remains of ancient aurières, gold mines that were first exploited by the Gauls.

The pond of the Bard, of a surface of 6 hectares is fed by the brook of Valouse. It was created to supply water to the wheels of the old forge. A 2 km walk allows you to go around the pond. Along its banks, you will discover typical marsh plants: cardamine of the meadows, burning lobelia or the marsh marigold but also a remarkable fauna: black woodpecker, grey heron or the diving pin. Throughout the walk, picnic areas are set up to share a meal with friends. This 1st category pond is also open to fishing and mycologists, whether beginners or experienced, will also be able to discover the diversity of mushroom species growing nearby.

The being of the Bard welcomes today on its banks the National Park Périgord Limousin: a corner of Canada in Périgord Limousin! The Park obtained its label on March 9, 1998. It includes 75 communes, extends over 1900km and two departments: the Dordogne (43 communes) and the Haute Vienne (32 communes). A natural and peaceful atmosphere for this tour of the pond, close to the highest point of the Dordogne. The territory of the Park has been the object, since medieval times, of the creation of a myriad of artificial ponds, whether for fish production, water retention or more recently for leisure activities.
