The Val Jouen Spring has regained its former washhouse, which has been carefully restored and cleared. A watercress bed once flourished here, recalling the important role that natural springs played in the food traditions and daily life of rural Normandy. The landscape is dominated by the bocage, with its lush meadows, hedgerows and half-timbered houses creating a quintessentially Norman scene. Along the steep valley slopes, woodland takes over, providing beautiful shaded sections and gently undulating paths. The route also includes an unexpected historical stop: the remains of a former German airfield from the Second World War. Quetteville station was opened on July 7, 1862 by the Compagnie des chemins de fer de l'Ouest. At the time, the company was opening up the 25km second section (between Pont-L'évêque and Honfleur) of its Lisieux-Honfleur line. On this section, in addition to the end stations, it is the only intermediate station. The Pont-Audemer-Quetteville section was opened to traffic on June 8, 1889. From then on, the station became a branch station, and was extensively remodeled and enlarged. A new passenger building, built a few hundred meters from the old one, now occupied the center of the 2 branches of the Y at the new junction. The freight facilities remained in their original location, close to the original passenger building, which was reused as a simple dwelling. Passenger traffic ceased in autumn 1969. From 1995 to 2005, the "Pontaurail" association operated a railcar (X2426) as a tourist service between Pont-Audemer and Honfleur.

The fountain's stream is a tributary of the Morelle river. The clear, fresh water flowing from it is said to cure eczema and skin diseases. Pilgrims still come here for supplies, then ask for the key to the church in order to place a candle or leave money in the trunk for a mass to be said. Every August, the commune celebrates its patron saint, Saint Laurent. To mark the occasion, a ceremony is organized and the water in the fountain is blessed.

This massive church dominates a valley and stands out from the cemetery, also on a hillside. The church was built in the 11th century to Christianize the Vikings who had been living in the region for over a century. Dedicated to Saint-Laurent, it features an altar surmounted by an altarpiece depicting the martyrdom of this saint. The statue of Saint-Laurent is on the right-hand side. The saint's face bears the marks of multiple small needle pricks on the left cheek. This practice is due to a popular belief that Saint Laurent heals wounds and skin diseases, hence the presence of ex-voto offerings close to the statue.

The Chèvrerie du Mesnil goat farm offers a wide range of activities including guided tours of the farm and the animals, farm produce tasting sessions (and farm shop) To top it off, you will be able to participate in the milking of the goats every day at 5.30 pm.

Welcome to the Domaine BOISSEL Père & Fils, where Christophe and Mireille are delighted to introduce you to their cider farm. Located in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, just twenty kilometres from Deauville and Honfleur, the farm has been passed on from father to son, over five generations. We only process apples from our own harvest, grown on our 15 hectares of orchards. The quality of our produce is obtained thanks to a blend of several apple varieties. We use a total of fifty different apples.

Surrounded by a beautiful moat, fed by a small stream, this castle appears to date from three eras. It is very well preserved and was partly built at the beginning of the 17th century. A spring of living water cascades down to water its walls surrounded by wide and deep ditches. A wood of fir trees, planted on the slope of the hill, seems to form an evergreen curtain to the north. Nothing is more imposing than the high avenues of lime trees whose long walls of greenery protect the stately home ... The Hébertot Castle was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is located on the site of an old manor house which belonged to the Dukes of Normandy and which was near the Vimont fountain, that is to say at the wash house near the entrance of the current castle, at a short distance the Roman road, the village, the church, a post house and a hostel. This manor was visited by William the Conqueror, Henry I, Henry II, Richard the Lionheart, and especially Jean Sans Terre. This castle, located in the heart of the Pays d'Auge, is part of a magnificent setting. A curtain of trees adorns the surrounding hills. It sits in the middle of a vast enclosure planted with centuries-old avenues, arbours, groves, in a park adorned with waterfalls, surrounded by all the splendor of the great feudal residences of the 17th century. It rises on a median surrounded by a deep moat fed by a small stream. The construction of this building took place over three distinct periods which nevertheless fit together perfectly and offer an imposing appearance. The oldest part, which dates back to the beginning of the 17th century, was built by the family of the Knights of Nollent, established in the region for several centuries. It was the presence of large quantities of water that would have led this family to acquire the lands of Hébertot and settle there.

This wash-house was built in 1750 - it has a small tiled roof and a pretty waterfall. It is close to an old ruined abbey and 2 former parish churches (Saint Pierre and Notre Dame du Val) on either side of the Vilaine.

The washhouse at Les Authieux-sur-Calonne is one of the last remaining washhouses on the banks of the Calonne. Recently restored, this washhouse is mainly built of red and beige brick, particularly for the floor and low walls. The fairly wide space by the low wall on the left allowed women to set down their baskets of laundry. The washboard, which is in very poor condition, is made of cement. Indeed, the restoration of the washhouse has undoubtedly raised the floor level. This explains the gap between the washboard and the floor of the current washhouse. The washhouse can still be accessed via two small steps. The washhouse’s framework is made of wood and rests on six posts set into the low wall, one of which is secured to the ground by a cement flashing covered with bricks. The gable roof is made of slate with rounded edges at the eaves. You’ll find this washhouse beneath the village bridge; it’s accessible on foot via the grassy path. If you’re passing by on a bike or in a car, keep an eye out for the red-brick building! To make your walk even more enjoyable, you can explore the church and the chapel, which is listed as a historic monument, both situated nearby.
