Discovering Villaroger, Savoie, Rhône-Alpes and the Surroundings

From Villaroger to the chapel of Notre Dame des Vernettes, this balcony footpath follows the les Arcs and Peisey-Vallandry slope, crossing “montagnettes”, forests and Alpine pastures. The Baroque sanctuary of Notre Dame des Vernettes can be visited. Duration: about 5 hours, height difference: 750 m. Villaroger – Arc 1600: height difference about 450 m, 2 hours Arc 1600 – Arc 1800 : height difference 200 m,about 1 hour Arc 1800 – Notre dame des Vernettes: height difference 50 m, about 2 hours. Short walk to reach the village of Villaroger. Family walk accessible to all. Map available at the Tourist Office. Opposite the church of Sainte Foy. This small junction allows you to reach the village of Villaroger from Sainte Foy chef-lieu. Wide at the beginning and narrower until the Isère then go up towards Villaroger. Same route for the return.

The Isère valley seen from below. A beautiful hike to do when the summits are in the clouds. Map available in digital and paper version at the Tourist Office of the resort. From the cemetery car park in the Chef-Lieu, cross the bridge and then take the tarmac road upwards. Then continue straight ahead on a flat road until you reach a dirt track. Then follow the direction of La Thuile, passing the Planjo multi-purpose hall. When you reach La Thuile, take the path down to the right. Cross a bridge and continue on the path towards Villaroger. In Villaroger, go down along the departmental road to the Pont de l'Isère. Go up to the Villard. To avoid a return by the departmental road, you can take the Sainte Foy - Villaroger link path (N°26).

Link the pretty hamlets of La Mazure and Le Miroir from the Chef-Lieu of Sainte Foy or vice versa. A great family walk. Map available in digital and paper version at the Tourist Office of the resort. From the Mazure car park, go down the main road towards the main town (watch out for cars), until you see the Mazure sign. After the sign, turn right onto the path that leads down into the forest. Arrive at the chapel of St Roch, continue on the path on the left into the forest, until you reach the tarmac road. Return by the same route.

A magnificent route to discover several hamlets in the commune of Sainte Foy on good paths. Beware, several steep slopes on the circuit. Map available in digital and paper version at the Tourist Office of the resort. From La Mazure car park, continue along the flat road towards Le Miroir. After the bridge, turn right up a steep path with a few steps through the village of Le Miroir. At the top, turn right onto the path towards Le Crôt. Cross the torrent, join the tarmac road and follow it up to the Plan du Pré. Turn right onto the path leading into the forest and continue along it until you reach the forest road. Take this road upwards, then at the second bend, follow the path down towards Planay- Dessous. Enter the village, go down an alley and, in front of the pond, go down the winding path that crosses the hamlets of La Croix and Pravarnier. Below Pravarnier, take the tarmac road at the bend, walk down it for 50 m and take the path opposite which descends to the house of Plan de Suel. Then take the wide path on the right that leads to La Mazure.

Starting from the hamlet of le Miroir, a pretty path in the forest with steep slopes. View over the whole of the upper Isère valley. Map available in digital and paper version at the Tourist Office of the resort. From the Miroir car park, cross the hamlet of Le Miroir. At the top of the hamlet, take the path rising on your left towards La Falconnière. Once you arrive at the hamlet, which is made up of a few mountain chalets, turn right onto a flat downhill path through the Miroir forest. Before the scree, stay on the forest path on your right. Continue to the hamlet of Le Miroir.

Family walk, along the Isère, accessible to all, including pushchairs. Map available at the Tourist Office. From the Viclaire car park, this green route offers stunning natural mountain and forest scenery as you walk beside the Isère river. The gentle, regular slope means that everyone from the little ones in the family to more sporty types can enjoy the relaxing, natural surroundings on bikes, on skates or just on foot.

From the resort, a short easy family hike to the Plan Bois plateau. Possibility to go back down by chairlift during summer time (please check opening dates and times). From Les Mélèzes car park, go to the Bonconseil chapel. Take the road up behind the chapel and follow "Planay Dessus". Once in Planay Dessus, continue downhill on the tarmac road. Take the first path up to the right towards Plan St André. Take the route towards the St Guérin chapel then follow the signs to Crêt Serru, Arpettaz and shortly after turn right downhill to Plan Bois then Bonconseil. It is possible to descend by the Grand Plan chairlift.

The Bureau des Guides et Accompagnateurs de La Rosière is made up of qualified and experienced mountain professionals. Our job is to guide you on the most beautiful itineraries, off the beaten track, to help you surpass yourself and to teach you techniques, all with a cultural and environmental approach. Teaching and transmitting the mountain is close to our hearts. Our border location, close to the south face of Mont Blanc, means that we can also take you up the Italian side of the mountain on some exceptional, wild routes. This winter, the Guide Office will have a 9-seater vehicle to reduce private car travel and also allow greater access to new destinations without being dependent on shuttle timetables, for example. These picturesque villages are home to distinctive post-and-beam houses, most of which date back many centuries. Records have been found as far back as 1633. Post-and-beam houses were often built by masons harking from Piedmont in Italy. Since timber was rare, they tended to build the walls out of stone and the low-sloping roofs out of lauze slate. Not only did these construction materials look nice, but they were also extremely practical. Built-up columns (as tall as 2 to 6 metres depending on the house) supported the heavy, overhanging roof, thus creating shelters and storage areas away from bad weather: hay or timber could be dried there for example… In steeply sloping areas, these columns could reach up to a dozen metres off the ground. In the village of Le Miroir, please remember to leave your bikes in the church car park so that you can visit it on foot.

These two protected hamlets testify to the work of the Piedmontese masons who came in the 18th century. to build these houses with columns of stones. Chapel Ste-Brigide is registered with the Historical Monuments. Magnificent panorama on the glaciers of Mont Pourri.

Dedicated to St Germanus, Bishop of Auxerre, this chapel was built in 1604. In very bad shape by the late 18th century, it was abandoned before finally being rebuilt a century later, a lttle further downstream. Understated and unassuming, it has nevertheless been completely restored and boasts a striking wrought-iron doorway and window through which you can glimpse the interior. It is not open to visitors.

These are typical grouped villages, huddled around their chapel, built up the slope and facing directly south. The materials that have endured through the ages in building these centuries-old houses are stone, wood and lauze slate, which are sourced locally and enhanced by the mountain dwellers' worksmanship. As you cycle through the hamlets of Le Mousselard, Les Moulins, Le Villaret and Le Solliet, you'll be able to admire them.Once designed to cater to rural activities, these houses have now been restored either as permanent homes or to provide additional tourism accommodation for the resort of La Rosière.

Chapel dedicated to Saint-Michael built on the top of a rock. It was first built at the beginning of the 17th century but had to be built again several times since Inside, you can see a alarpiece dating back to the 19th century with a painting representing Saint Michael, Saint Bernard and Saint Simon. Outside you can enjoy a panoramic view on the Tarentaise valley.

Not far from the route, this unusual little chapel, perched on the promontory of Le Châtelard at an altitude of 1,450m, enjoys an incredible view over the Haute-Tarentaise valley. A special viewing system using metal tubes means you can observe the summits and villages up the mountainside from the River Isère all the way to the Haute-Tarentaise ski resorts. This chapel is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, the patron saint of high places.

5 km from La Rosière, the viewing area by the Saint Michel Chapel allows you to identify the various peaks that surround La Rosière.

"Perched at 2,410 metres in altitude, the chalet-refuge de Turia showcases its Chaloin-type architecture, which is emblematic of the simple and friendly welcome of the ""small"" refuges of Vanoise built in the 1970s. These quickly assembled wooden refuges combine rusticity, sturdiness and rapid heating. The “bachal” water (trough-shaped water reservoir) is captured under a rocky glacier, several hundred metres away. Inside, the shelter is equipped with a UV filter to purify the water."

Located in the valley of the Petite Sassière, the refuge is guarded in spring and summer. The rest of the year the refuge is open but there is no surveillance. On-site catering during the opening period: fresh and local produce. In winter, this refuge is a fabulous base camp for ski touring. It is fully equipped: gas, water on sink, utensils and dishes, lighting and solar heating. - Waste management - Renewable energy (photovoltaic) - Thermal panels for hot water and heating - Sleeps 39 in : a 12-place mezzanine in the upper part of the room. a dormitory sleeping 27 in bunk beds. During summer, come and discover the Safari tents for 4 to 6 people with camp beds and duvets for a comfortable mountain bivouac.

Refuge located in the hamlet of La Motte, it is very well placed on circuits of several days, such as the Alta via Glaciale, via Alpina, Grand Tour de Tarentaise. It also allows interesting loops through the pass of Mount (towards Italy) 30 sleeping places: 2 rooms for 4 people, 2 rooms for 6 people, 1 room for 2 people reserved for guides and a dormitory for 8 people. Each room has its own shower room and WC on each floor. Children are welcome from the age of 4.

This shelter, kept from the end of June to the beginning of September (providing food and accommodation), remains open for self-catering for the rest of the year. Before becoming the property of the Vanoise National Park in 1972, it was a former alpine chalet which was built from materials extracted on site starting in 1932. It was home to the Alpage de la Martin for a period of thirty years during which Beaufort, Sérac and butter were produced.

Rosuel mountain hut stands out for its exceptional architecture, which blends in perfectly with Vanoise National Park’s natural environment. Closed to the public the rest of the year, it can accommodate up to 50 people and you can enjoy local products and homemade dishes there during the day and in the evenings (upon reservation for evening meals). Its keepers’ keywords are fellowship, love of the mountains and fresh encounters.
