Unveil Eyragues with HOTEL MARIE DE JULES

By drailles and by paths, follow the tracks of the transhumance of the Alpilles shepherds and their flocks! Back to the car park, take the path on the left, follow it for 3.5 km and pass a panel of communal decree. At the next intersection, turn left. Go right on the white gravel path and follow it to the road. 1- Turn left, pass the water tower and in the bend turn on the 2nd street on the left. Go down to the roundabout. Take the 2nd exit and take the avenue on the left. Turn left and cross the Liberation and Saint-Paul squares to reach the Bergerie. 2- Retrace your steps and take a right on the street just before the pharmacy. At the intersection, stay left and continue to the canal. Follow it on the right. At the end of the road, turn right. Turn left and pass the Roumanille manade. 3- Climb the path to the right and pass the canal. Once the hill is completed, switch on the path to the right. Take the road on the right, then turn left on the path of Mas de Bedoc. At the intersection, turn left on the path. At the end, turn left on a road. Follow it until you reach the D30b. 4- Continue towards Noves. After 300 m follow the Abeies path on the left, then the Crêtes path. At the end, take on the left the D30b to join Noves and the D30. Turn to the left. Follow the direction Châteaurenard and pass three roundabouts. After the 3rd, go left the medieval gate. 5- Just after, turn right, join the Pagnel square and continue Paul Auran street. At the end, turn right, then direct left. Take the D30b on the right. 1 km further, take a path on the left (n°941). At the end, turn left, cross the river and turn right (Mas Vert). Follow this path for 2 km. 6- Follow the road to the right. Go The river and at the intersection, take to the right. After 700 m, fork left on the Chicard de Pouvarel draille. Borrow the 1st road on the right. Go up the road on the left and join point 4. Follow the path of Transhumance on the left. Continue straight for 7.5 km to return to the starting point.

Go through the ages with the exceptional historical heritage of the Alpilles! From the Inter communal Tourist Office of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, take the D5 towards the Glanum site to the junction with Joseph d'Arbaud Avenue. 1 - Turn right on the avenue. Continue straight on "Chemin Gaulois" to the irrigation canal. Turn left after the canal, then take the old road on the left to Arles until the intersection with the D27. 2 - Take the D27 left towards Les Baux-de-Provence. Climb the road for 4 km, then go down the Val d'Enfer to Baux-de-Provence. 3 - Continue on the D27 towards Maussane-les-Alpilles to the junction with the D78f. Turn left and continue until the intersection with the D17 in the heart of Maussane-les-Alpilles. 4- Cross the D17 and continue on the way to the pine forest. At the crossroads of the D78c, take it on the right. Continue to the center of Paradou and the intersection with the Belle Croix road. 5 - Turn left on Belle Croix road and continue for about 5 km until you reach the D33. 6 - Turn right towards Fontvieille, until you reach the junction with the D17a. Cross this crossroads and continue towards Saint-Etienne du Grès 7 - (Caution!) At the intersection with the D33a, turn left and continue using the coloured shoulder to the Saint Gabriel chapel. 8 - Just after the chapel, turn right on the D32, always towards Saint-Etienne du Grès. Cross the village, past the town hall. 9 - Before the exit of the village, take on the right the little path of Notre-Dame-du-Château. 10 - After a small bridge, take on the left the path of Calanquet. Continue for 700 m then at the crossroads with the D31, turn right and continue to the center of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. At the church, turn right to join the departure car park.

A walk between a shaded valley and the sunny plateau, to listen and discover the birds of the Alpilles. At the Antiques car park, go along the D5 towards Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and turn right to reach the Saint-PaulCloister at the end of the path surrounded by trees. 1 – Opposite of the Cloister, follow the road on the right to bypass it and take the path on the right at the RIS panel (Relais Information Service) of the Alpilles Regional Park. Therefore, follow the RP marked trail (yellow), which runs through the valley and forest. 2 At the crossroads with the small paved road, turn left and follow it. Continue on the road at the next junction before the next crossroads. 3 – Continue straight on the road that rises towards the plateau of Caume. At the telecommunication tower, go left towards the GR6 for about 400m. 4 – The return begins from this point, by the same route.

Take full view, during this sensational circuit that will take you to discover the Alpilles in all their facets! The burial works of the High Voltage line of the Caume, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence will take place between 18/09/2017 and 22/12/2017, down from the telecommunication relay to the Plaines car park. Diversion routes will be set up except for the portion between Vallon de Valrugues and the plateau, on the route of Gr6, which will be completely closed for a few weeks. Consult the map of the works on the Park's website for more details. From the Antiques car park, along the D5 towards Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, and turn right to join the Cloister of Saint Paul Mausole, at the end of the path lined with plane trees. 1- Facing the Cloister, follow the road on the right to bypass it. At the Relais Information Service panel of the Alpilles Regional Nature Park, take Chemin des Carrières on the right. Follow the marked path PR (in yellow), which crosses valley and forest. 2- At the crossroads with the small paved road, follow it to the left. Continue on the road to the telecommunication tower of the Caume plateau. At the tower, turn left towards GR®6. After the sign of "Biotope", follow the ridge line to the right by a series of rocky steps. 3- After 2 km, turn to the right following the GR®6 and join the foot of the peaks. Continue between rocky passages and undergrowth to the Vallongue pass and its rocky gorge. Go down to the left to a road near the airfield (some passages require the hands). 4- Take the path on the left. From this point the circuit will be double marked PR (yellow) and GR® (red / white) until arrival. Continue for 3 km, remaining attentive to the marking, until a junction of marked paths and a property lined with walls. 5- Turn left and walk 500 m. Take a track on the right and then a small asphalt road. At the hairpin bend, turn left onto the path lined with properties. 6- At the fork stay on the right, further pass a barrier then continue to a stone cottage. After the shed, turn left. Cut the path where the GR®6 passes, go up between two wooden barriers and continue to the right on the path that joins the starting point.

A breath of fresh air, in the shade of the oaks and pines! Go down slightly on St Rémy (Caution!) to turn right on the pine track leading to St Paul de Mausole. Continue left on the paved road "Chemin des Carrières". 1 Stay on your left at the crow's feet. 150m away, switch to the left path at the sight of a dead end sign. 300m further, cut across the GR6 path and continue on the GR653D path towards Eygalières. 2 - Continue straight until a fork. Turn right and leave behind to the left return route. Continue on 200m and after a clearing, turn left along the properties (follow the GR and RP markings) to a small road. 3 - Take a right for 600m. Go along a cypress hedge on your left, followed by a marked dirt road by the GR and RP. 4 - Turn left on the dirt road leading to a large perpendicular path. 5 - Take a left onto the large perpendicular path. Go down this path for 500m. 6 - After a large olive grove, turn left onto the path marked by the RP and leave behind to the right the path marked by the GR. 7 - After a vineyard on the right, come out on a road, the Voie Aurélia. Follow it to the left. 8 - Turn left 60m further and keep on the road until the next turn. Continue left on the dirt road which leads to a mas (Provençal farmhouse) that you can bypass by going up a small hillock. 400m further, reach the fork to get to and from the point already used on the opposite route.

After enjoying the shade offered by beautiful pine forests, contemplate the Alpilles and Provence as you've never done! From the parking, go up track to West through the pines for join the tarred road that comes to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Follow it and take the left on the Roman Road and Panouilles. Continue to the Alpines Canal and the Chemin des Servières and Cadenières. 1- At the intersection, turn left (from this point, follow the signs GR® and PR to point 3). Stay on this paved road for 1.7 km, then climb a hill by a path. Join the DFCI track and follow it until the D27. 2- Turn left on this road, go up 250 m, then turn right on the DFCI track AL 107. Pass a barrier and go up the valley called "Gaudre de Valmouriane". After a series of laces, you get to a crossroads. 3- Take the GR®6 on the left towards Les Baux (from this point follow the GR® signs to the car park from the starting point). At the pass, join the D27. Cross it and continue 500 m on an asphalt road, on the left. After the orientation table and a barrier, continue on a track. 4- Pass the watchtower, leave the Lombards track on the right (panel), then DFCI no. AL 112 on the left. Continue for 1.3 km then turn left into a valley and return to the starting point.

This hill, reaching 134 m in altitude, offers a 360° view of the Durance valley, the Alpilles Alpilles, Mont Ventoux and Caumont.This "sensitive natural area" is also renowned for its renowned for its high biodiversity of birds and and vegetation. Come and discover Saint-Michel de Frigolet Abbey , in the heart of the Montagnette massif! From the car park, head for the Saint-Michel de Frigolet Abbey. Take the path on the right that goes along the wall. Follow the rocky track towards "Boulbon 1h", then 100 m after the trail on the left. At the next intersection, continue in the middle of the kermes oaks to the track to cross twice. 1- At the next crossing, follow the indication "Boulbon 50mn". After the small collar, go straight down, then climb a second hill. Shortly after, cross the drivable track at the end of the valley to go up on the hill opposite. Cross successively two other valleys. Continue, leaving the basin on the left. 100 m after, cross a track, then take the path towards a factory chimney visible in the distance. 2- Then descend to Boulbon, through the valley of Saint-Michel. At the end of this gorge, turn right and follow the marking of red dots to access the Bonnet mill and its panorama (30 min return trip). Once back at the foot of the gorges, reach the village by the Gaston de Raousset street. 3- At the junction of the end of this street (fire hydrant), take the left for Barri street, then the second right on Météline street. Continue on the Breuil path, to the road. 250 m after the purification plant, turn on the road on the left marked PR (yellow), then find the road again on 100 m. 4- Take the intersection and follow “Pas de Bouquet” path. After 2 km, turn left towards "Saint-Michel de Frigolet abbey 1h40" by the San Salvador path. Continue for about 3 km. 5- At the highest point of the Montagnette (San Salvador, 161 m), dive by a small path on the right. At the crossing in "T” form then take a left. At the next two crossroads, always take the left. 6- Turn right on the track, then at the junction forming a triangle continue to the right. Find shortly after the departure path, "abbey of Saint-Michel of Frigolet 10mn".

Take a stroll among the peaks and valleys of Baume Brignolle to discover the richness of the Alpilles! From the car park of the bridge said to be Roman, cross the ford and start hiking through the wooded path. Continue until you leave the shaded area to reach the fruit cultivations. 1 – Head towards the Chateau Romanin on the left after crossing the vineyards and tree crops to either side of the path. Before reaching to the castle, follow the trail marked in red and white (GR6®) which plunges to the left and climb to the Col de la Vallongue. Then turn right and continue along the narrow stony path, first at the foot of the ridges and then all along them. 2 – Enter the zone for biotope protection, covered by prefectoral decree. Turn left at the crossroads after taking a few steps in the middle of the surrounding vegetation, and follow the trail to leave the pylon on the right. Continue straight. Across the telecommunication antenna, follow the road that continues downwards to leave the plateau of Caume. 3 – Below the plateau, continue straight at the first intersection before turning left at the next intersection to take the Chemin de Baume Brignolle. After 800m, at the crossroads where 6 paths meet, follow the second path to the left, it is the DFCI AL 115 track. Continue on Chemin de Baume Brignolle until you reach on the D24. 4 – Continue straight along the main road. Preferably, take the small path which is on the left. Continue until the crossroads between the D24 and the D25. 5 – At the intersection at the bridge, follow the D24 towards Eygalières until the bridge saidRoman bridge, end point of the hike.

Discover St. Maxime’s church and its 11th or 12th century Provençal Romanesque nave, its apse and low north side in the Gothic style, and also the two Romanesque chapels forming a false transept. The origin of the chapel of Christ (inscribed in the inventory of historical monuments) is controversial, according to some authors it might be Paleo-Christian. Le Ruban du Patrimoine (the ribbon of Heritage) was obtained in 2003. (The aim of this competition is to highlight the work which is done to preserve the French Heritage).

La Petite Crau is a land of pastoralism. The extensive grazing of goats and sheep is a guarantor of biodiversity, preventing the encroachment and closing of environments, and at the same time contributing to the fight against fire. Herds appreciate the vegetation of the coussouls, as evidenced by this old sheepfold, now in ruins. ;

Built in 1920 by;Jean-Ferdinand Michel, the sheepfold testifies to the pastoral life of the village of Eyragues. This sheepfold was home to a herd, which numbered up to 300 animals. The grandson of Jean-Ferdinand Michel practiced transhumance until 1985, and the sheepfold was used to keep a few heads until 1993. Today, the building has been rehabilitated in multi-purpose room by the municipality of Eyragues.

With this park the city of Eyragues pays homage to seven poets, whose works have allowed the maintenance of the Provençal language. There is a statue of Frédéric Mistral and the busts of Joseph Roumanille, Théodore Aubanel, Jean Brunet, Anselme Mathieu, Paul Giéra and Alphonse Tavan. In the background stands the Bastide, mansion, which houses a meeting room and the Heritage Museum.

Inaugurated in 2006 by the association "Testimony and Heritage", the Heritage Museum exhibits everyday objects given by the inhabitants of the village of Eyragues who do not wish to see the disappearance of local heritage. There are stories about village life, paintings, furniture, traditional costumes and agricultural tools and crafts.

This was originally known as the Chapelle des Pucelles or the Chapelle des Vierges. This chapel has, of course, paid the traditional homage to time and undergone a series of transformations which have made it even more interesting. Don't miss the relatively rudimentary bas-relief tympanum representing the theme of Adam and Eve, the serpent and the tree of life. Remarkably, the tree of life is represented by a fig tree.

Saint-Véran is the patron saint of shepherds and transhumance. North of Eyguières, there was once a chapel dedicated to him and a cross, still existing. Saint-Véran, bishop of Cavaillon, protector of the flocks, is known since the 11th century. for having chased the Tarasque, who decimated the herds in the valley of the Durance.

La Petite Crau presents an ecosystem close to its big sister, the Crau, lowland located south of the Alpilles. The landscape is characterized by hedges, groves and old trees surrounding still some natural meadows, typical of the coussouls. More and more plots are being cultivated today, the presence of herds is essential to maintain their ecosystem, because pasture is the only way to enhance the pastoral lawns of the coussouls of Petite Crau.

In the 15th century, several farmhouses and sheepfolds were built in this area to accommodate herds of more than 1000 animals. Then came the construction of Notre-Dame-de-Vacquieres chapel and its hermitage This chapel is located near a source to which one attributes healing virtues, and a jas: a sheepfold allowing herds to shelter during the wintering period. From there, the flocks came down to drink in Anguillon.

The coussoul is a steppe-style pastoral lawn, whose rough vegetation grows on very fine soil. This soil covers pebbles from the old bed of the Durance. Less than a meter deep, there is a layer of pebbles, cemented naturally by a crust of mineral salts, called "pudding". Within the Petite Crau, it is possible to find spaces of coussouls well preserved, giving it an exceptional ecological richness.

Relax and breathe… On the wine route, two kilometres from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, La Sommellerie is a haven of peace. In the elegant setting of the restaurant, you will enjoy a refined and home-made cuisine. This former sheepfold dating from the 17th century with its thick walls and typically Provençal character has 16 bedrooms and a restaurant opening on to a shaded terrace, a garden and a swimming pool. If the village only had its church and a few houses in the 19th century, it is at the center of a territory that includes the most beautiful farmhouses in the Camargue: the painted farmhouse, the Cazeau tower farmhouse. This sector specializes in the breeding of herds of bulls and the cultivation of rice, including organic rice. There is also an important private research center on the flora and fauna of the marshes, the biological station of the Tour du Valat.
