All the cycle routes in the Deux-Sèvres Marais Poitevin have the same markings. On these markers (wooden beams with a turquoise plate), are indicated the numbers of the circuits in black. Here, follow the Number 8. The circuits are marked out in both directions, there is no specific starting point, you can start your walk wherever you like. Be careful, the small paths can be used by motorized vehicles. Safety instructions - Wearing a helmet is highly recommended. I ride on the right. I respect the rules of the road. I check the condition of my bike (brakes and lighting). I stay on the marked paths. I respect the marsh, a sensitive and classified site.

Thanks to archaeological excavations, we find traces of occupation of the Rochénard site since the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The 1978-79 excavations revealed a cemetery with burnt human and animal bones, fragments of ceramics and glass, as well as coins dating from the Roman period. You can find them at the Pierre-Henri Mitard cultural space in Usseau. Since 1287, the name of the commune has been in constant evolution but the toponymy is quite similar. The culture of the vine is the main activity of the commune in the XIXth century but the phylloxera puts an end to it. The inhabitants turned to livestock and cereal farming. Our "MIRA" hut is perched and well hidden in an exceptional holm oak tree at least three hundred years old at the bottom of a charming little wood. It is hardly noticeable as it communicates so much with the tree that welcomes it. On the first level, a 20m2 room with a 15m2 terrace with a lounge and coffee table. Above, a small mezzanine extended by a balcony hidden in the ridge branches aspires to reverie accompanied by the whispering of leaves and the singing of birds .. At the foot of the hut, a fully equipped kitchen shed for preparing meals. A shower shed with separate private toilets. A sheltered space under the hut. The hut is equipped with hot and cold water, electricity and heating.

Our LOV'NID MIRA is a small one for lovers, perched 8 meters above the ground, in a small wood adjoining an orchard, near the river. It is a small spherical-shaped hut, a cosy little nest, offering a view of the sky thanks to a porthole placed above a vast circular bed. It is insulated with sheep's wool and covered with larch shingles. A wonderful place where you will share unforgettable moments as a lover or a family.. Access is via a large staircase with a douglas fir landing leading to a terrace surrounding the hut. A caravan is located at the foot of the hut with a table and benches convertible into a double bed. Both cabins are equipped with hot and cold water, electricity and heating.

In a charter of July 1039, William I, Lord of Parthenay (990-1054), invited by Pope John XIX to take under his protection the abbey of Saint-Jean-d'Angély, grants it the court (curtis) of Priaire(s). This donation is the origin of the foundation of the priory (now disappeared). Formerly part of the diocese of Saintes and the archpriesthood of Surgères, the church was united with the parish of Usseau in 1813. It replaced the old sanctuary, whose poverty was highlighted by the 1688 and 1718 visits. To be seen: baptismal font from 1629 and a curious bell tower-wall with a bracketed arch and a cross.

It is a rural village, and today it is home to the only certified sustainable agriculture farm in the department and a tobacco producer. It is by taking the time to stroll along the Subite and the Coudre that one discovers the richness of the built heritage strongly inspired by the architecture of the neighbouring Charente department. Its warm limestone hillock is also favourable to the blossoming of some thirty varieties of orchids growing in the woods and along the berms (narrow paths between a canal and an earthen embankment): Goat orchid, Spider orchid, Woodcock orchid, Hanging man orchid, Bird's nest orchid...

The village appears situated on a height with its bell tower emerging from a bouquet of greenery. Its name would derive from the pulleys with lever called storks, whose wells of the country were once equipped. The parish, mentioned in 1100, was created during the clearing of the Chizé forest. Franchises were granted by the Earl of Poitiers in order to attract new inhabitants. Placed on the royal roads, it is in the 16th century. a place of passage of Protestant or Catholic troops. Before phylloxera, most of the commune is covered with vines producing a white wine from which a brandy as good as that of Cognac is taken. In 2018, it merged with Prissé-la-Charrière, Belleville and Boisserolles to form the new commune of Plaine d'Argenson and became a delegated commune. This green lung of 73 hectares, located in the west of the commune, was identified in 2002 as a Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF) by the Regional Scientific Council of Natural Heritage (CSRPN).

The smallest commune of the Niort Agglomeration Community, situated at the south-western tip of the canton of Beauvoir-sur-Niort, is so named to distinguish it from Thorigné, near Celles-sur-Belle. The village developed on the left bank of the river Mignon. In the Middle Ages, the seigneury depended on the election of Saint-Jean-d'Angély, the generality of La Rochelle and the seigneury of Frontenay, which meant that it belonged to the provinces of Saintonge, Aunis and Poitou, which led to complications. The buildings date mainly from the 19th century; the oldest are located near the old 18th century water mill.

The absence of decoration on the facades and the simple frames reflect a modest habitat turned towards agriculture. Thorigny has the Notre-Dame church at its heart and, with the smallest number of inhabitants, forms a large family. The village is a farming and stockbreeding centre, and every summer it organises farmers' markets in its park, as well as its traditional country fair on the last weekend in August. It is also the starting point for four hiking and mountain bike trails.

The church was built in 1041 by the abbey of Saint-Maixent. In the 14th century, a fee of three gold florins was paid to the bishop of Saintes. A national asset during the Revolution, the sanctuary was demolished by its purchaser and the parish was attached to that of Belleville. A subscription launched by the inhabitants and a subsidy from the State led in 1829 to the blessing of the new church by the dean of Beauvoir-sur-Niort. In 1851, the parish priest was installed after the purchase of a presbytery. Since 1908, the parish has depended on Saint-Etienne-la-Cigogne. Two Franco-Polish volunteer youth work camps have created a fresco and three stained glass windows for the building, as well as the openwork gateway to the cemetery depicting a rising sun (a reference to the sunflower, called the sun, which adorns the street signs and echoes the sunflower in the church fresco).
