This cycle route between Metzeral and Wintzenheim allows you to discover a product that has made the valley world-famous. To this day, Munster cheese is still produced in the tradition and passion of the men and women who have shaped this land. Rounded summits, high stubble fields, steep slopes and glacial lakes will accompany you on your discovery of the Vosges Massif.

Leaving Guebwiller, the route joins the Alsace vineyard cycle route heading north, before turning west in the shadow of the Rouffach and Bollenberg hills to Osenbach. An initial ascent towards Col du Hundsplan takes you over the small massif to the wine-growing foothills at Gueberschwihr. At Husseren-les-Châteaux, a further, longer ascent to the Col du Wilsbach leads to the Château du Hohlandsbourg, a medieval sentienele overlooking the Alsace Plain and Colmar. South of Turckheim, the itinerary joins the pleasant, green Munster Valley cycle route. Take a gourmet break at the Maison du fromage to learn the secrets of making the local star. From Metzeral, the route becomes sportier, reaching the mythical Col du Platzerwasel, a classic stage of the Tour de France. The climb continues up to the Markstein, at an altitude of around 1,200 metres, offering unforgettable panoramic views. The descent takes you back down to the Guebwiller valley, along the Lauch river and the undeniably charming lake of the same name.

Starting in Munster, this is an athletic but not overly demanding route. A gentle slope at the start, following the cycle path to Turckheim, a pleasant wine-growing village... The first climb to Les Trois Epis takes in Niedermorchwihr and its church with its magnificent twisted bell tower. Then Labaroche and Orbey for the ascent to the Col du Calvaire. A 10km climb with some double-digit gradients... A route with magnificent panoramic views. The return journey takes in the Route des Crêtes, the jewel in the crown of the Vosges Massif, before reaching Munster via the Col de la Schlucht, with its rocky cliffs and uninterrupted views of the Ballons des Vosges.

Starting from Ribeauvillé, the stronghold of the Ribeaupierre family and protected by its three fortified castles, meander leisurely along the balconies of the Alsatian vineyards from Hunhawihr to Turckheim, passing through a number of choice wine-growing locations such as the welcoming towns of Riquewihr and Kaysersberg. The tour then takes in the green and open Munster valley. At the Maison du fromage in Gunsbach, you can discover the secrets behind the making of this famous cheese, before enjoying a tasting session. After passing through the pleasant center of Munster, the route climbs upwards, winding its way from Hohrod to the Collet du Linge. A historic pause at the Musée mémorial du Linge is an interesting option before tackling the Grand Hohnack. The grandiose scenery continues towards Labaroche and Orbey, where you join the Weiss valley as far as Hachimette. You then take the small mountain road to Fréland and begin your final ascent to the Col of the same name. You'll then reach Aubure, the highest village in Alsace at 800 m altitude, before returning to Ribeauvillé, the starting point of the tour.

Go in the direction of Munster Valley via Turckheim and Zimmerbach. Rounded peaks, mountain meadows, steep mountainsides and lakes formed in the last Ice Age make up the varied landscape of Munster Valley, which is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Vosges Mountains. Munster Valley also offers special rambling sites dotted with friendly farmhouse inns along the way.

The Wormsa valley, a classified natural site, is nestled in the Grande Vallée de Munster and at the foot of the Hohneck and Kastelberg massif. Resulting from a Vosges glacier, this magnificent valley shelters rivers, waterfalls, lakes... This hike will lead you through the waterfalls of the Wormsa and towards the charming small lake of Fischboedle recognizable thanks to its gazebo which welcomes the hiker.

* Please note! Due to logging operations in the commune of Mittlach, the route at Schnepfenriedkopf level has been diverted (CF document below)!! Start at Steinabruck on the outskirts of Metzeral (near the Wormsa chalets, towards Mittlach), before following the Wormsa path past the statue of the legendary bear, with a view of the Hohneck 850m above. Pass through the village of Mittlach to the Haut-Mittlach campsite. Then tackle the 6km climb to Schnepfenried. After crossing the resort, start the descent to Metzeral via the Ferme du Grand Hêtre. Before that, you can try out the Easy Bike Park (a small, fun mountain bike circuit) or the farm circuit to reach the Auberge Deybach. After a slightly technical start, it's mainly downhill on a wide track back to the starting point. Drive to Schnepfenried, the main ski resort in the Munster valley. To get there you'll have the opportunity to discover Mittlach, a charming little village with its Alpine Ambulance Museum (a small military hospital from the 1st World War). Au départ du parking du Gaschney, petit sentier technique pour rejoindre le versant du Hinterschallern (rectangle bleu*). Montez jusqu’au Schallern puis traversez les pistes de ski pour aboutir à l’auberge du Schiessroth (triangle bleu). Plongez dans la descente technique qui vous mène au lac du Schiessrothried (rectangle rouge) avant de regagner le Gaschney (rectangle bleu). (*Les parcours trail utilisent essentiellement les sentiers balisés du Club Vosgien. Sur chaque secteur, suivez le symbole correspondant dans la direction indiquée.)

After soaking up the Petit Ballon 360° view over the Guebwiller and Munster valleys and over the Hohneck chain and the Grand Ballon, at the beginning of your descent at the edge of the ridge you will glimpse the glacial circle of the Petit Ballon. Two small lovely paths, between wood and prairie, vineyard and mountain, will take you to the village of Soultzmatt, passing through Wintzfelden and Osenbach, and includes a small stopover at the remarkable site of the ruins of the Schwartzenthann convent.

From the Petit Ballon, the third day of this itinerary is the last day of this circuit and takes you back to Guebwiller. You will cross different types of landscapes, forests, glades and meadows, all of which look over the towns and villages from various viewpoints of the mountain, linking the Vallée du Florival and the Vallée Noble.

The summit "Le Hohneck", 1363m, the highest of the Vosges, located in the city of La Bresse. From there you will see Alsace plain and when the weather is clear, the Black Forest and even the Alps.

Source of the Moselotte near the Thatch of Breitzhousen. Christina of Denmark, widow of the Duke of Lorraine Francis II and regent of Lorraine, drank it in July 1560. The stele visible at that location also marks the starting point of the water cycle circuit and hydropower. Document on this circuit available on request to the Bresse Tourist Office. At the edge of the route des crêtes, which can be closed for several days in winter depending on climatic conditions.

Chapel with contemporary lines with its pyramidal shape and its glazed gable. It dominates, since 1960, the Shclucht pass. It has been awarded the label "Remarkable Contemporary Architecture". The chapel, by its great sobriety, calls for contemplation. Every summer, it hosts masses as well as a cultural program.

The Haut Chitelet high-altitude garden offers visitors the chance to discover 2,500 species of alpine plants from different mountain regions around the world. A stone's throw from the Hohneck, primroses, gentians, blue poppies, edelweiss and many more flourish in landscaped rock gardens. A high-altitude peat bog and beech grove, two natural environments characteristic of the Hautes-Vosges, complete this botanical world tour. Booklets and games are available for families. A cultural program revolves around a photographic exhibition and summer events on the theme of nature.

Built in 1904, it used to host the tramway coming from Gérardmer. Another line coming from Munster will be built until the border post and inaugurated in 1907. Very frequented by tourists, these tramways will not survive the two world wars. Today, the old station houses the French Ski School and the Vosges Departmental Fire and Rescue Service.

The Tourbière du Haut Chitelet, or Tourbière Charlemagne, is located below the route des crêtes, between the Col de la Schlucht and the Hohneck. It is accessible via the Jardin d?Altitude du Haut-Chitelet which offers a collection of more than 2,000 species of alpine flora: a duckboard equipped with a platform allows you to discover the site in complete safety. In addition, exhibition panels as well as a model to be manipulated will allow you to perfect your knowledge of the Vosges peat bogs.

On the second floor of the new public reception area LE TÉTRAS 1139 (to be refurbished in 2021), is the Espace De Découvertes - SCHLUCHT 1139. This space offers an interactive and playful visit on the history of the pass and its landscapes, as well as on the High Vosges and its natural and cultural heritage. An invitation to rediscover this emblematic site of the Vosges Massif.

Nestled in the heart of the Vosges forest, at an altitude of 1100 meters, the mountain restaurant of Chalet Hôtel Le Collet invites you on a gourmet journey of authenticity and refinement. In a warm and elegant setting, blending wood, stone and mountain ambiance, our restaurant showcases revisited local cuisine, inspired by local resources and seasonal produce. Chef Julien CLAUDE and his team create generous, creative dishes that combine traditional flavors with contemporary touches. The auberge is located at 1300 metres above sea level, on the GR5 and a stone's throw away from an orientation table with one of the most beautiful views of the Vosges massif. It is a welcome stop between the Schlucht pass and the Lac Blanc resort. Access by snowshoe, cross-country skiing, and on foot in winter. In summer, easily accessible by car, motorbike, bicycle or on foot. Apart from the usual openings, the Auberge opens for bookings of 10 or more people.
