Not far from Vareilles, this little circuit is a pleasant walk that only touches the wood in question. But it is quite possible to venture out and push on to the banks of the nearby Chaume pond.

A bumpy, hollowed-out route that requires a bit of stamina. From the Etang de la Chaume, the route wanders through the Creuse bocage on rolling tracks and paths. The highlight is the 2 km downhill stretch on the Chemin du Marchat.

Don't be fooled by the peaceful landscape surrounding the Etang de la Chaume! From this very pleasant starting point, the route heads due south after a short excursion into the village of Azérables, and then takes in a succession of bumps and hollows - modest indeed, but numerous... The Chemin du Marchat, at the halfway point, is a non-stop, slightly downhill stretch of 2 km, very pleasant to do, with a beautiful view to boot. This trail is part of circuits 25 (black) and 23 (blue): triple signposting almost the entire length. Be extra-careful when crossing the D1, especially the second time around: some cars speed along. Please slow down a little when crossing the Villaugoueix, to avoid running into any farmyard animals that may be loitering on this narrow stretch of road...

You pass by the pond, but don't stray too far from it. It's pleasant to do on easy trails, and the southern part leads to some lovely sunken paths.

Starting from the pond of La Chaume, this walk leads to the discreet Cornu wood which borders the southern bank, and which plays a fundamental role in the ecological balance of the site. Stay tuned: the route is in the process of evolving and should make it possible to reach the granite chaos of the Mur des Brosses (during 2023).

A short walk that allows you to discover the charming village of Azérables and its green setting.

Cascading streams, mysterious places of worship and unexpected viewpoints set the scene for this short, fairly hilly route through the Versillac countryside. You will pass from the Sédelle valley to the Chaudron valley, walking on the hills that form the geological break in the Marche fault.

Start from the village of Bussière-Madeleine, near La Souterraine 5.5 km ? easy level ? 1h30 A bit of a quiet road at the start of this itinerary, which winds its way through the Bussière-Madeleine area and continues along beautiful paths and across the Ruisseau de la Benaize. Charming discoveries also take us in the footsteps of a famous local personality.

In addition to its railroad setting, this circuit offers beautiful views of the line of hills known as the "fault of the March". The route alternates between small quiet roads and beautiful paths vaulted by the foliage of the hedgerows, and presents no difficulty.

This is a fortified church. It has a bell tower-porch and a single nave with side chapels and a flat chevet. A counter-fort on the north-west side of the nave was given a patté base (an enlarged or swollen base on which missiles bounce in different directions) to support a turret or circular watchtower. Today, only the molded stump with its round base remains. In 1858, the upper part of this defense was demolished.

By the Sedelle river, the Châtelus “peu” is a small, low-lying hill whose steep slopes overhang the river. Here is begins the geological set “faille de la Marche”.

Under the porch is the old Limousin-style portal, which, like the choir, belongs to the first building campaign, circa 1100. The colonettes of the jambs are prolonged by toroids beyond small capitals, two in granite and four in limestone, depicting fantastic animals. the porch was added in the 13th century when the bell tower was built. The nave vault and choir are adorned with paintings bearing the dates 1745, 1775 and 1840, probably by local artists. Its architecture marks the transition from Romanesque to ogival architecture. It features a gilded wooden tabernacle. The porch and bell tower date from the 14th century.

The 3-hectare botanical garden is located 5 kilometers from La Souterraine. It has been laid out in a natural, planted relief, preserving its ancient trees. You'll discover: the Zen garden inspired by Japanese traditions, designed to set water in motion (waterfalls, streams); the two ponds with fish, dragonflies and other insects, and birds such as warblers and kingfishers; the English garden with its mixed borders featuring numerous rose bushes and rare plants, most of them labelled. Landscape designer Lionel Ewertz created the garden with an emphasis on biodiversity. A graduate of the Lenôtre school, his educational garden has preserved century-old trees, the aim being as much to enable visitors to discover the diversity of the plant world as to protect endangered species.

In the north-east of the Haut Limousin region, you'll find the "Toutes les saveurs du Bonheur" restaurant, where the chef prepares home-style cooking using local produce. The restaurant also offers a catering service.
