Montagne de Robion (1660m) is one of the highest peaks in the Castellane commune. A 360° view awaits you at the summit ... From the municipal swimming pool, take the D102 towards Robion. Drive 2 km, parking on your left. Follow the path below the road. It leads down to the Rayaup ravine, before rising above the Verdon. After 1km, follow the path up to the left, leaving the Tour de Robion route. Continue up through the undergrowth to the pastures and then to the summit. Return by the same route.

Pleasant path overlooking the Verdon, then passing through the hamlet of Robion, near the chapels of Sainte Trophime and Sainte Thyrs. From Castellane, take the route de Robion (D102) behind the swimming pool. After 2km, park in the parking lot on the left. Take the footpath on the right of the road below and descend to a small stream. The path climbs a little steeply and reaches the crossroads of the path leading to the summit of Montagne de Robion. Leave this path to the left and continue straight ahead. Enjoy a magnificent view of Cadières de Brandis and the small village of Taloire. At the next crossroads, stay on the same path to reach La Colle. Turn left downhill towards Fontpuge, where you'll find a ruined house. Follow the signs to reach the hamlet of Basse de la Doux. Then make a 90° turn to reach the small village of Robion. In the village, follow the D302 in the direction of Chapelle St Thyrs. Shortly before the chapel, a track leads off to the right, avoiding the road. End up at the chapel. Turn left to reach the junction of the D302 and D102. Turn right onto a small path under the road, which leads around a bend. Cross the road, the path bends to the right and, at the exit, turn immediately left to rejoin the signposted path. Rejoin the parking lot. Below is an alternative route: Take the small bridge on your right. After the bridge, turn left onto the track that leads to the Maison du Brec. After 2 bends, the path continues straight ahead; do not turn right as this is private property. Continue north-east to the Col de Colle Meillane. Take an old, faint path on the left, which runs under the power line. Note: if it's hard to find, continue along the track, which leads you to the road to the dump near the parking lot. Overlook the gorges, but beware: there is also a somewhat aerial passage. Rejoin the track and then the route de la décharge. Turn left onto the road to reach the starting parking lot. Follow the signposts, which take you along the departmental road, not too busy with cars, but not very pleasant.

The old paths lead to the isolated hamlets of Brandis and Villars-Brandis.

This route is a more difficult return variant of route no. 5. From the Blaches trail, a pleasant path leads to the Escoulaou area (a Provençal name given to the area's many springs) and then to the Cébière district. If you're feeling sporty, you'll complete this itinerary in 1 h

This itinerary leads by road to the hamlet of Brayal and returns to the village along small, fun trails.

This family-friendly loop follows the right bank of the Verdon, then crosses the Listes and Notre Dame districts, where the ancient Roman city of Salinae once stood. Suitable for mountain bikes.

A very sporty route around the Destourbes mountain, taking in the listed Saint Thyrs chapel, the unspoilt hamlet of Eoulx and the small village of La Garde. For the more athletic, this itinerary takes 2 hours.

This easy route leads to the landscaped beach at Lac de Castillon via the small road in the Cébière district and then along a track used by transhumance herders. Ideal for getting back into shape before taking a dip in the lake.

This loop takes the road alongside Lac de Chaudanne to reach the village of Demandolx, then forks right onto a track shortly before the Col de Saint Barnabé. Below the Teillon massif, which rises to 1893 m, the descent is made on a single track via the GR4. This route, which offers a bird's-eye view of the lake, takes in the mountain scenery near Castellane. If you're feeling sporty, this itinerary will take you 2h30.

This sporty circuit, which can be completed in one or two days, starting from Castellane or Saint-André-les-Alpes, takes you around the Lac de Castillon from the heights, offering splendid views.

Taking the emblematic Blanc Martel trail without taking your car couldn't be easier, thanks to the shuttle bus and the Zou 450 regional line (ex BV1 )from Riez, Roumoules, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Castellane. Shuttle service resumes on 28/04/2023. How does it work? The Zou 450 regional line links Riez to Castellane via the village of La Palud-sur-Verdon. From La Palud-sur-Verdon, the Blanc-Martel shuttle bus takes you to the Chalet de la Maline, the trailhead. The trail ends at Point Sublime (Rougon). For your return journey, take the shuttle bus to the village of La Palud-sur-Verdon and/or the regional line 450 to Riez or Castellane. Timetables... To ensure optimum operation, the timetables of the Riez-Castellane regional line (450) and the Blanc-Martel shuttle are coordinated. Online booking is highly recommended if you want to be sure of getting a seat! Please note that the shuttle does not return to Chalet de la Maline in the afternoon.

Saint-Joseph church belongs to the Alpes de Haute-Provence department. It was the church of the former Augustins convent. Today, it is the Collège du Verdon. The church and its cloister are not open to the public, except in exceptional circumstances. On February 15, 1281, Charles II, Count of Provence, donated a meadow to the Augustinians of Castellane to build their convent. The original building thus dates from the last years of the 13th century, but few of its features have survived to the present day. It is known, for example, that the convent suffered greatly during the Wars of Religion, and was burnt down in 1559 by the men of Antoine de Mauvans, a local gentleman who espoused the ideas of the Reformation. The church and cloister were rebuilt at the end of the 16th century by Jean Féraud, who acted as both architect and contractor. Mgr Mouchy, Bishop of Senez, had his private chapel built here. It was also at this time that the convent was enclosed within the new fortifications. The tower in its south-western corner has long borne the date 1588. The convent was bought by the commune during the French Revolution. In January 1790, the minutes of the sale of national property describe it as comprising a refectory, courtyard with well, kitchen, pantry, oven, cellar, bedrooms, dovecote, stables, hayloft, cloister wings, huts, driveway, walkway and arable land. Transformed into a college in the 19th century, it has remained a secondary school to this day. In 1875, the deteriorating church was demolished so that the main road could be widened. On February 25, 1878, the commune decided to lease the college building to the Frères de Saint-Gabriel, who were responsible for carrying out the renovation work designed by the engineer Tourniaire. A boys' elementary school was thus set up in the buildings. The work, carried out by Désiré Honnorat and François Guirand, was accepted in 1880. The elementary school did not move until after the Second World War. In 1888, in response to a complaint from parents, the commune decided to secularize teaching at the collège, which was nevertheless entrusted to the same congregation. Architecturally, the convent was originally almost square in plan. The destruction of the church did not radically alter this situation. Apart from a very recent extension housing the new refectory, the present-day college comprises the old cloister, whose trapezoidal floor plan also borders on the square, with its tiers of galleries, and the buildings bordering it to the east, west and south, including the round corner tower to the south-west of the building. This tower houses the dovecote. The north gallery of the cloister has been converted to accommodate the new documentation center. At least the northern half of the cloister's west gallery is occupied by a chapel still used for worship. On the first floor, the four cloister galleries are not identical. The east, west and south galleries are similar. However, they are not exactly the same length (between 17 and 19 m), and while each has three monolithic pillars between the two corner pillars, their spacing is slightly different. The pillars on the south gallery are the most elaborate: their corners are broken in the shape of a canelure. One of the capitals, in the shape of a machicolated tower, bears the Castellane coat of arms. All the arches supported by these pillars, composed of a single row of keystones, are slightly lowered. The north gallery, on the other hand, aligns six pillars between the corner pillars. The differences are even more marked on the second floor. The east and south elevations, as well as a small part of the west elevation, are treated as open galleries, with regular arcades rendered in thick plaster. The west and north elevations, on the other hand, lack this second gallery level, which has been replaced by classrooms. Unlike the other two, they also feature a third level. To the north of the chapel, a small square bell tower extends from a belfry wall. The Castellane family is among the most important of the oldest families of Provence. Many representatives of this family bear the first name of Boniface. The most famous of the members of this family, affectionately named Boni (1867-1932), was elected several times MP for the department whose name was Basses-Alpes at that time. His generosity was famous throughout the region. In Paris, where he lived most of his time, his lifestyle was sumptuous and the parties organised by this "dandy” were famed.

Located in Haute Provence, the heart of the French Resistance, this museum is dedicated to all those who refused defeat and took up the fight as soon as General De Gaulle called. Library and archives available by appointment only. It objectively represents the entire Resistance, without prejudice to its different currents. The museum displays a wealth of objects, documents and authentic photos, some of them extremely rare. Several life-size reconstructions of scenes from underground and maquis life enhance the visit. The museum aims to be a European reference, and its library and archive center are a further educational tool. Out of respect for the victims of this period, we've avoided showing unbearable, all-too-familiar images, to make it a pleasant family visit during the vacations, when, in addition to the sunshine of Provence, you'll have good memories of having discovered something different.

In fact the 200m high rock was inhabited several times in the course of the history of the town. The hilltop sites in this part of Provence essentially correspond to two major periods in search of safe places. The first one, before the Roman colonization in the 1st century BC, corresponds to the Celtic-Ligurian settlement period and the formation of so-called oppida. The second great period corresponds to the Saracen invasions from the 8th century to the early 10th century.

The church was built on the plot of land belonging to the abbey of Saint-Victor de Marseille. It was built between the 12th century and the 18th century, and it was listed as a historic monument in 1944. The Church of Saint-Victor is late Romanesque, situated at the articulation of Romanesque art and Gothic art. It consists of a nave and a semicircular apse dating from the 13th century on the South side. A bell tower was added in the 15th century (1455), the upper part having been added in the 19th century.

Located in rue Saint Victor, in the heart of Castellane's old town center, the church of Saint Victor is an exceptional building dating back to the 13th century. Several restoration campaigns since the 1990s have restored it to its former glory. Construction of the primitive edifice dates back to the first half of the 13th century. The first element recognized by all historians is the place of construction and the owner of the land: the church was built on land donated in the 11th century to the abbey of Saint-Victor. The building's history can then be divided into two main periods: in the 15th century, a first aisle to the north was built, along with the bell tower, then in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, the building was enlarged once again to the north with the erection of a second aisle. This Victorian priory also acquired parish status in 1260, when the parish was transferred from Saint-André to Saint-Victor. In 1442, the parish service was also transferred from Notre-Dame-du-Plan to Saint-Victor, making it Castellane's only parish church. This remained the case until the Sacré-Coeur church was built and made a parish church in 1884. In 2014, a major restoration campaign was carried out on the building. From Le Roc, the steeple of Saint Victor church seems to dominate the town. This church is a must-see. Everything is well in the 13th century when the town left Petra Castellana and had just settled in the plain, the country is peaceful and prosperous. This is not the case in the second half of the 14th century when economic crises and social unrest were more and more numerous. Times are no longer safe and the town is fortified in 1359. The wall, lined with 14 square towers, must adapt the shape of the town exactly in the same manner it was at that time. Hence the construction to the upper corner of this high tower that dominates the plain.

The Church of the Sacré Coeur dates from the mid-19th century. It was built between 1869 and 1873. It then became the parish church of Castellane. The construction of the new church took place under the leadership of Father Pougnet, a priest and an architect. This priest officiated in Western Africa for several years in the course of the 19th century. Thus, the Church of the Sacré Coeur presents the characteristic of being built like churches in Western Africa.
