St Victor's Church

Located in rue Saint Victor, in the heart of Castellane's old town center, the church of Saint Victor is an exceptional building dating back to the 13th century. Several restoration campaigns since the 1990s have restored it to its former glory.
Construction of the primitive edifice dates back to the first half of the 13th century.
The first element recognized by all historians is the place of construction and the owner of the land: the church was built on land donated in the 11th century to the abbey of Saint-Victor.

The building's history can then be divided into two main periods: in the 15th century, a first aisle to the north was built, along with the bell tower, then in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, the building was enlarged once again to the north with the erection of a second aisle.

This Victorian priory also acquired parish status in 1260, when the parish was transferred from Saint-André to Saint-Victor. In 1442, the parish service was also transferred from Notre-Dame-du-Plan to Saint-Victor, making it Castellane's only parish church. This remained the case until the Sacré-Coeur church was built and made a parish church in 1884.

In 2014, a major restoration campaign was carried out on the building.

From Le Roc, the steeple of Saint Victor church seems to dominate the town. This church is a must-see.
