This route takes you through typical hamlets, crystal-clear streams and undergrowth, offering a breathtaking view of the Bois Noirs. There are many serves in the Montagne Bourbonnaise, small ponds that were once used for watering cattle, washing clothes... Today, they have become a small ecosystem where flora and fauna gradually develop.

This route, with its many beautiful viewpoints, lies on either side of the Besbre valley. A salt tax collection center, Ramillard also had a silver-lead mine. Workers extracted this metal in 1913 and 1914, the last years of operation. At 36 meters deep, the mine shaft has been restored to safeguard this heritage.

A picturesque, varied route dotted with coniferous forests, streams, waterfalls and hidden valleys. In order to better exploit water resources, man has built milk pits. These are niches built into a drystone wall with an opening at ground level. They were used to preserve certain foods.

Departing from Saint-Nicolas-des-Biefs or La Chabanne, this loop takes in the heights of the Montagne Bourbonnaise through forests and heather fields to the plateau de la Verrerie. Here, a superb view awaits you at the orientation table, where the Alps are revealed on clear days to the luckiest of visitors. Don't forget to admire the peat bog, a sensitive and protected environment.

Test your skills on this 3km route, where 500metres of positive ascent await you. Can you get over the wall as quickly as possible?

Trail no. 3 (Uni'Vert Trail label from the Fédération Française d'Athlétisme), 2.8 km, starting from Saint-Nicolas-des-Biefs. This short trail, totally suitable for beginners, starts below Saint-Nicolas-des-Biefs, the highest village in the Allier department. Once you've finished your run, take a moment to climb up and admire the view from the plateau de la Verrerie.

This walk along the paths of the Assise state forest takes you on a discovery of the natural and cultural heritage of the surrounding area. On the trail, you can enjoy the calm and beauty of the undergrowth. This walk takes you to the Pierres du Jour (1164m), a place steeped in history and, if oral tradition is to be believed, an ancient pagan cult site.

Trail no. 10 (10.2km), awarded the Uni'Vert Trail label by the French Athletics Federation, starts from La Loge des Gardes. This trail for beginners takes you to the heights of Loge des Gardes and the mysterious Pierres du Jour, the highest point of the Monts de la Madeleine at 1164 meters.

Uni'Vert Trail 12 (13.1km) from La Loge des Gardes, awarded the Uni'Vert Trail label by the French Athletics Federation. Starting from the Loge des Gardes, this route takes you into the Assise state forest. Your run takes you through this fir wood, a conifer typical of the heights of the Montagne Bourbonnaise, replacing the beech trees below.

In the heart of Cervières, come visit a unique museum in France : the Museum-workshop of goldwork embroidery. You will discover the history and the technique of the embroiderers called "Grenadières" specific to the Haut-Forez. The goldwork embroidery has existed in the Haut-Forez territory since the 19th century. Women worked mainly for military industry and made the grenade of policemen and firemen, so they took the name of "grenadières". The industry peaked in the 50's. The embroiderers worked on embroideries for military uniform as well as civil suits or the famous academician suit. In the museum, you can admire examples of those réalisations and discover the technique of goldwork embroidery and the transmission of this skill nowadays known as an artistic profession. Each visit finishes with a show that permits to you to talk with the embroiderer and to understand its technique. You can also try by yourself!!
