This hike with different balconies of the Princes' Mountain will make you discover the mountain pastures and amazing viewpoints on Seyssel. This double loop with high elevation gain will make you discover the Seyssel hills, then the Princes' Mountain. The step at La Ferme du Comte (high peak) will offer you a breathtaking view. In the heart of the mountain pasture of the Princes' Mountain, in the middle of cows herds, you will discover an expectional panorama on l'Albanais, les Bauges and the Mont-Blanc.

This path allows you to discover the Pays Of Haut Rhône through the landscapes. It starts at the heart of Seyssel then rises on your heights. Discovery of the Pays of Seyssel through your multiple rustic, forest, urban facets... This familial hike was at the beginning set up by the CPIE Bugey Genevois. Throughout the three footprints that are the Earth, the History and the Rhône, you will discover the multiple landscape aspects of the historic hearts of the Haut Rhône territory. This loop follows mostly the GR65 (St Jacques de Compostela) and its Seyssel alternative. The marking is red and white, except between Vens-d'en-Haut and l'Oratoire de la Rochette where the marking is yellow.

At the foot of the Grand Colombier, the Musée du Bugey-Valromey invites you to take a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, with its Renaissance house featuring architecture typical of the region and its parkland in the heart of the countryside. Located in a carefully preserved Renaissance-style house, at the foot of Grand Colombier Mountain, the Bugey-Valromey Museum will transport you through centuries of Bugey life, from the 19th century to today. The kitchen and scullery with a slopstone sink, the bedroom, cellar and outhouse and the dovecotes provide the stage for reconstructions and displays of the museum’s collections. The area’s history, significant people, daily life, geography and wildlife, means of transportation and landscapes are just some of the main themes presented in the exhibitions. Wood has always been, and continues to be, one of the area’s most important resources. An underlying theme of the visit, wood is featured in several of the museum’s collections, such as in the workshops which showcase the tools and material used in woodcraft professions (e.g. lumberjacks, coal producers, wheelwrights, coopers and woodturners). More impressive yet is the collection of turned artwork produced by 30 international artists, on display in the Renaissance house. Bugey also has a remarkable natural landscape of green countryside and rolling hills - the view from the museum illustrates this. It is therefore no surprise that artists have always been inspired by its landscapes; and hikers by its valleys. From April to November, the museum calendar is marked by an excellent cultural programme that brings together quality and conviviality, offering something for all tastes and all ages!

Present on both banks of the Rhône since ancient times, Seyssel was alternately Savoyard and French until the Rhône became a border in 1760. Come and discover its history during tours organized by Haut-Rhône Tourisme. The first separation of Seyssel lead to the distinction between Seyssel Savoie (left bank) and Seyssel France (right bank). A century later, when Savoie became part of France (1860) and the Haute-Savoie département was created, the Rhône became an interdepartmental boundary separating Seyssel Haute-Savoie from Seyssel Ain. While each of our villages has its own church, there are a few that deserve a closer look. These include Seyssel Ain and Seyssel Haute-Savoie in particular. The boating industry, which was very active in the Pays de Seyssel until the 19th century, gave rise to an important cult of the Virgin Mary. Inside these churches are statues of Notre-Dame du Bon Départ (Seyssel Haute-Savoie) and Notre-Dame du Pont (Seyssel Ain). The stained glass windows of the church in Seyssel Ain are also worth a look. They depict episodes from the life of Saint François de Sales. As early as the Middle Ages, a wooden bridge was built to enable the Rhône to be crossed at Seyssel. Two bridges link the villages of Seyssel: the old bridge dating from the 19th century and the 220-metre cable-stayed bridge, which came into service at the end of the 1980s. The two Seyssel villages are nestled on the banks of the Rhône between two mountains: Le Grand Colombier in the Ain and the Montagne des Princes in Haute-Savoie. Both offer a number of hiking trails, so there's plenty to discover here.

The Grand Colombier is one of the last remaining ranges in the southern Jura, culminating at 1,534m. From the summit, you can enjoy an exceptional 360° view. It is accessible by car or bike. There are many walks to be enjoyed throughout the massif. The Sur-Lyand plateau is located in the southern part of the Massif du Grand Colombier, at an altitude of 1,250 metres. For more information, see the ‘Sur-Lyand’ article. Crossed by the GR9, the Grand Colombier offers a wealth of opportunities for walking, horse-riding and cycling. The Grand Colombier was awarded the ‘ENS’ (sensitive natural area) label by the Department of Ain in 2017. The sites awarded the ENS ‘sensitive natural areas’ label are natural and landscape treasures of the Ain department, managed in such a way as to preserve the biodiversity within them and are developed so as to be able to welcome the public (with certain exceptions due to the fragility of the environments).

At the foot of the mountain, perched above the Rhône, the hamlet of Eilloux (Corbonod) is hiding a magnificent spot: its waterfall. You can make the most of this refreshing little spot by taking the ‘Cascade d'Eilloux’ loop trail and you can explore the vineyards at the same time. Autumn and winter give the pretty Peysieux waterfall, sheltered in its romantic setting, a renewed charm.

The church in Bassy is on a rock promontory, dating from 1824. The bell tower, 1833, has a bell that was made by the Paccard brothers.

Built in 1597, this church contains a Baroque interior and the tombs of various noble families. Along three outer walls is a painted 'litre funeraire' ('funeral band') - the only one in the Savoie. The restored band demonstrates the sanctuary's illustrious history.

The Montagne des Princes offers many walks, mainly leaving from Droisy, or Clermont, through the woods. Do not forget to admire the many wonderful views during your walks.

The Chavanne Chapel was the parish church in Saint-Andre until 1663. Nowadays, the ruins of the chapel and the Chavanne Cross on the Princes' rock offer a magnificent view over the Albanais plain. An easy place to reach, 15 minutes walk from the village of Chavanne, in Val de Fier. Close to the Montagne des Princes walking trail.
