A lovely itinerary around the heart of Megève, to really enjoy the beauty of our alpine village. Setting out from the Tourist Office, take the "Chemin du Glapet" running alongside the river to the Fermes de Marie. Come down to the roundabout above the cementry. Follow the "Rue de Beau Soleil" in the direction of the retirement home. Come back towards the post office roundabout for about 50m and take the Calvary path on your left. You will arrive just behind the bus station. Then join the pedestrian streets by the "Rue Général Muffat de Saint Amour".

Nice walk up a little valley. You will enjoy traditional farms and typical chalets along the road. From the village, follow route de Rochebrune up to Croix du Bouchet. From there, route du Leutaz leads to the end of the road. On the way, you will find the hotel restaurant "Flocons de Sel" (famous french chef Emmanuel Renaut), as well as the restaurants "Le Refuge" and "Verde". Way back on the same itinerary. Suitable for pushchairs.

A bucolic walk for all the family, combining the beauty of the setting, geology and local history. From the village square, follow Charles Feige Street to Place de la Résistance. Take the path facing the underground parking of the Casino, the climb is steep up to the Croix St Michel. Above, on a small esplanade, Notre Dame de Nazareth and Notre Dame des Virtues characterized by a Byzantine dome; at the South East corner the oratory of Adieux. To reach the Creux St Jean, take the small grassy road to the right of the restaurant Le Refuge du Calvaire. After a short descent, the statue of Saint John the Baptist appears at the edge of the path, watching over passers-by. Follow this path in laces to arrive in a magical place: waterfall, small stone bridge, oratory dedicated to Saint-Jean; haven of freshness and calm where the faithful came to relax. Continue the trail to the small paved road the Chemin du Maz. You can either go up to the left for about 25 min to discover the waterfall of Belle au Bois (delicate path). Or go down to the right directly in the center of the village. At the level of the old bridge near the Bar St Paul, go up a few tens of meters on the left. On the right you will see the fountain between the Church and the site of the old cemetery, the Presbytery and the village square.

From the village square, follow Quai du Prieuré. Take the Chemin du Maz between the Bar le Saint Paul and the AAllard accessories shop. The Chemin du Maz is partly a tarmac road (about 30 minutes' walk on a steep road) and partly a footpath (about 15 minutes). In the middle of the route, you can head towards Creux-Saint-Jean and join the Chemin du Calvaire to return down to Megève. On the left of the hiking trail, there is a signpost for the Cascade de La Belle au Bois (tricky path / dead-end path). Access recommended for children over 7. With suitable footwear. Delicate, wooded path at the finish of the pool: handrail with small steps laid on smooth, slippery rocks.

In front of the chapel go down about 800m by the “Chemin du Maz”, then fork to your right by the path (10 minutes) to reach the “Belle au Bois” waterfall (delicate path). Course N°1 blue "Cassioz" This route will offer you a panorama on the Aravis chain and the Charvin mount. Level of difficulty: average, 90 % tar. From the Tourist Office, head towards Praz sur Arly by the hilly road of Crêt du Midi to the residence "la Renardière". From this road begins a long descent with a small percentage towards Cassioz, where you have to take a left until a path that will lead you to the road of Leutaz. At the summit, the climax of the route, take the road towards Rochebrune, to return to Megève.

The Reverend Ambroise Martin, parish priest of Megève from 1820 until his death in 1863, devoted his faith, his fortune and his strength to what remained his life's work: building a Calvary similar to the one in Jerusalem. Designed and erected between 1840 and 1878, the Megève Calvary was first and foremost the work of one man, Father Ambroise Martin (1791 - 1863), the parish priest of Megève from 1820 to his death. In an idyllic setting, it is composed of 15 chapels and oratories depicting the stations of the Way of the Cross from Jerusalem to Golgotha. The different religious edifices, combining all the architectural styles of the past, are home to about 50 life size painted wooden statues together with frescoes and "trompe-l'oeil" paintings. This combination of architecture, sculptures and paintings evokes astonishingly realistic images of the life and passion of Christ. And in former times this collection of buildings became such an important place of pilgrimage that for a long time Megève was given the name of the "Savoyard Jerusalem". Today it is listed as an Historic Monument, representing a reminder of the past for locals, a pleasant walk for holiday-makers, and offering everyone a wonderful panoramic view over the upper Arly valley and the Mont-Blanc. Important work carried out between 2001 and 2007 has restored the Calvary to its former glory. The chapels and oratories have been carefully restored, both inside and out, and the surrounding grounds landscaped giving the appearance of the the X1Xth century countryside.

The Belle au Bois waterfall is a cannyoning spot and is accessible from the village centre only in summer. 30 meters high. A footbridge gives an easier view point.

Located at the Hermitage, this museum, inaugurated in 2013, is an interpretation centre for the Calvaire site. There are still a dozen chapels in Megève out of twenty that date back to before the Revolution. Dedicated to Saint Bartholomew and Saint Clair, the Maz Chapel was built in 1614 and rebuilt in 1772. Most of Megève's chapels were erected during the XVII century, on the initiative of the clergy fighting the Reformation, incited by the need to establish a place of worship in each hamlet, and affirm the identity of each. "Les Chapelles et Oratoires" is available free of charge in Megève Tourisme.

The Roman boundary marker at the Jaillet pass is one of Val d'Arly's rarest ancient remains. Together with the markers of the Petit Croisse Baulet and L'Avenaz, they offer the excuse for a themed walk open to good walkers (7 hrs walking). The boundary marker of le Jaillet, found again in 1963, was built in 74 A.D. by the Romans in order to demarcate the territories of Ceutrons and Allobroges tribes. The word "FINES", that means "limit", is carved on it. Until the 18th century, it marked the border of mountain pastures between La Giettaz and neighbouring territories. This marker, just like others, has been thrown down the slope or hidden in order to blur the border, because of conflicts and trials about the boundaries of pastures.
