A shady walk among boxwoods and holm oaks above the village of Les Eyzies that can easily be walked with the family. A steep wooded path leads to the charming hamlet of La Mouthe which contains the cave of the same name.

The Vézère valley has a rare density of prehistoric sites. In Les Eyzies, a village often referred to as the "world capital" of prehistory, the La Micoque loop gives you the keys to "350,000 years of human occupation in the Vézère valley".

The intercommunal VéloRoute Voie Verte project aims to link the north and south of the valley (60km), from Limeuil to Aubas, and connect with other national VéloRoutes Voies Vertes at both ends: to the north, it links up with the Flow Vélo, an itinerary leading from Ile d'Aix to Sarlat La Canéda, via Coly-Saint-Amand. to the south, the route joins the VéloRoute Voie Verte - V91 - project, which runs along the Dordogne valley to the Lot and Gironde regions, partly on a low-traffic road from Les Eyzies to Aubas, via the famous Lascaux cave. More undulating, this itinerary is ideal for cyclists ready for a challenge, but also allows the less athletic to join the voie verte: a beautiful combination of natural landscapes and historic sites punctuate these routes.

The train station of Les Eyzies, located at 700 meters from the village center, allows direct access to the heart of the Vézère valley and to the heart of prehistory. Indeed, the village hosts an impressive density of prehistoric sites, or sites dedicated to prehistory. For walkers, the "Micoque loop" leads from the village under the high cliffs of Laugerie to the Micoque deposit, a site which has revealed traces of occupation dating back at least 350,000 years

The Vézère valley is a haven of nature, surrounded by forests and limestone cliffs. Of course, the absence of big cities and industrial areas is a big part of the explanation.

From Terrasson-Lavilledieu to Limeuil, where the Vézère joins the Dordogne, the river runs through one of the most beautiful regions of the Périgord. This fifth stage will take you from Eyzies to Le Bugue. Located at the confluence of the Beune and the Vézère, the village of Les Eyzies is sometimes called the "world capital of prehistory". You will discover a multitude of archaeological sites such as the Cro-Magnon shelter, the Font de Gaume cave or the Pataud shelter. Information sites are also present in the village: the Pôle International de Préhistoire and the Musée National de Préhistoire. Then go to Le Bugue via the hamlet of Peuch and the village of St Cirq.

A walk to do with the family from the small village of Manaurie, a few kilometres from Les Eyzies, to discover a variety of landscapes and buildings typical of our region in the coolness of the streams.

The walk goes through the woods and crosses small hamlets with beautiful houses in the Périgord style. The itinerary goes up small valleys bordered by cliffs that remind us of the Castel-Merle valley (a famous site in the Vézère Valley) or the nearby "abri du poisson".

This hilly itinerary takes the beautiful Peyrière path which offers a splendid view over the valley: the village of Tursac and the Château de Marzac. It then crosses the hills to reach the narrow Beune Valley.

What does this international reference collection, with its 2 million objects, have to say about human fossil remains, figurative art objects, ornamental elements, pebbles and ornamented limestone scales, tools and excavation documents? The questions jostle during the visit of the Abri Pataud, near the shelter of Cro-Magnon and not far from the Lascaux Cave. The Abri Pataud preserves the traces of 15,000 years of prehistory, of the first Homo sapiens sapiens, called Cro-Magnon men, bearers of new technologies and inventors of figurative art in caves and shelters. Owned by the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, it offers visitors two areas of discovery: the prehistoric site, specially fitted out for the public, and the museum, housed in a rock shelter. Animations for the public make the research work on the collections known.

Famous for its polychrome paintings, but also its engravings, it gathers animal figurations and numerous "signs" dated from approximately 14 000 years. The Micoque archaeological deposit is the oldest site in the Vézère Valley and a fundamental element in our understanding of the beginning of the Paleolithic. Its stratigraphy is nearly 10 m / 32 ft high and covers more than 300,000 years of chronology. The site is a listed historic monument.

In Roman style, the church of Manaurie is a church with a bell-tower wall founded at the end of the 11th century and the beginning of the 12th whose name is "Saint Peter with Bonds". It was modified at several times, in particular after a fire, the date of which cannot be given. The nave was rebuilt lower than before, as evidenced by the remains of two Roman windows "one on each side of the nave next to the two ogivales". It is possible that originally there may have been a stone vault in the nave as well as in the heart and the two chapels. It was restored by volunteers in the 1970s.
