The Casino de La Roche-Posay is a continuation of the Château de Posay, inaugurated in 1932. It was built partly on the site of a small 4th-century church belonging to the former parish of Posay-le-Veil. In 1806, this commune was attached to the town of La Roche and became "La Roche-Posay".

The arrival of the railroad in La Roche-Posay, and the construction of the station and bridge in the 1890s, enabled the town to become a busy station on the Châtellerault - Châteauroux line. The station boosted the town's development, enabling the Parisian upper middle class to come to La Roche-Posay to take the waters. The railway line operated until 1952 for passengers and 1972 for freight.

At the confluence at Le Breuil, the clear waters of the Gartempe mingle with the dark waters of the Creuse. Rich in fish, they also powered the mills and supplied water to the town's tanneries. With a Latin cross floor plan, dominated by an 11th-century bell tower, the church was symbolically fortified in the 15th century during the Hundred Years' War, as evidenced by the two false machicolation towers visible from the small square.
