TOURISTIC BIKE TRAIL - THE ITINERARY OF THE 2ND ARMOURED DIVISION IN THE VOSGES Liberation in the plain of the Vosges. The 2nd Armoured Division arrived in the Vosges by Vrécourt. The biggest tank battle of the Western Front took place in Dompaire. It happened just after the capture of Contrexéville, when a Wehrmacht convalescent centre was set up at the Cosmos Hotel (Contrexéville), after the liberation of the internment camp in the Vittel Thermal Park. The presence of more than one tenth of the terminals of the 2nd Armoured Division of France in the plain of the Vosges is not insignificant. Along the way, stelae, monuments, commemorative plaques, revive all these sites full of history. Starting point Madonne and Lamerey 190km marked route.

In the land of Nacer and Rayane Bouhanni, this central tour of 62 kilometres winds through the hills between the Madon and the Moselle to the west of Epinal. Starting from the Maison du Vélo at the lake of Bouzey, you will ride over five bumps and accumulate 740 meters of positive elevation gain. To get in shape, ride along the Vosges Canal on the departmental road D460 in the direction of Chaumousey, then Girancourt. In Girancourt, take the D39, a hilly road that takes you to the gates of Dompaire, passing under Virine via the Côte de Circourt and the Côte de Derbamont (>7%). You will enjoy the long sheltered passages under the oak and beech trees. Pay attention to the markings from the entrance to Lamerey to the Madonne exit (junction with the D166). You arrive at the foot of the third hump above Vautrincourt. This stretch of road, open to all winds, leads you to the famous Côte de Harol (17% gradient), which is well known to cyclists from the Grand-Est. At the top, you will enjoy the 360° panorama. To finish this route, join the Canal des Vosges at the Forges d'Uzemain via Charmois l'Orgueilleux and find, by a small tortuous road, the lake of Bouzey having crossed beforehand the "côte des Salades", the highest point of the course. And that's five!

Marking: green disc 15.3km Starting from the Bouzey dyke, this route will take you on a wide 14 km loop around Chaumousey. The trail is very varied, between the undergrowth and the banks of the Bouzey Lake.

A beautiful walk without difficulty that will take you around the lake. Marking: blue ring 7km Take the gravel path along the car park towards the forest. At the edge of the forest, turn right, then immediately left to follow the marked path (blue cross) which follows the pond dam, at the end of which the Conservatoire des Sites Lorrains has installed an information panel. Take the time to walk along the educational trail to discover the environment, fauna and flora of this pond. At the end of the dam, turn right onto the marked path (red disc and blue cross) to reach a gravel path which leads you straight to the shore of the Bouzey Lake. At the end of the forest, after passing an information panel, cross the tarmac road, follow on the right the marked path (blue disc and green solid disc) along the lake, pass on the dam and take on the left the tarmac road between the houses. Continue along this small road along the lake without worrying about the streets that go off to the right. Always following the signs (blue disc), you pass over a bridge that crosses the end of the lake. The tarmac road climbs towards the forest. Once you have reached the top of the hill, you leave it and turn right onto a marked dirt track (blue disc and solid blue disc) which runs through the forest for 1.3 km. The marked path (blue disc) leads you along the lake to the starting point. Following the road straight ahead, you will reach the car park at the start of the walk. Marking: blue ring

Marking: blue disc 15.5km A very nice hike in the heart of the Vosges, a 15 km loop around the woods of Girancourt, along the Bouzey Lake and the pond of the Abbaye.

From the car park, go through the barrier towards a shelter. Just before arriving there, take the marked path on your left (+ of red colour) which crosses a small arboretum to join a stone path while skirting the forest. Turn left and follow the markings (red circle and red cross), which will take you through the forest and then across the fields to cross the Mauverois stream. You then come to a tarmac road near a calvary. Take the road to the right for 300 m and turn left to enter the forest again on a marked forest track (red circle and red cross). Some 200 m further on, pass the Fontaine de la Couleuvre and continue on the dirt track to climb towards a roundabout. Follow the marked track (red circle) to the left for just over 100 m and turn right onto the dirt track which goes alongside the fields a little further on. When you reach a small house, turn left to get to the D51, which you cross to arrive at the left of a shed, following the marked path (red circle). This path, which goes alongside fields and forest, leads you to a small tarmac road at the place called Censes des Lois. Go up to the left on the road to arrive near the forest house of Avière. Opposite this house, take the marked path (red circle and red cross) and leave on your right a marked path (red cross). After passing a pond, you get to a gravel path which you follow to the left for almost 300 m. Turn right onto the path that leads to the Avière spring, nestled at the foot of a cirque-shaped valley with a majestic beech forest. Enjoy this magnificent setting for a few moments, since you will have to go up to the left opposite the spring on the winding, marked out path (red circle). Follow the path, leaving a track on your right halfway up the slope and then, further on, a track on your left. Off the trail, the bravest can make a round trip (marked with a red triangle) to the stele commemorating the fall of an allied plane during the bombing in 1944. At the top you come to a forest road. Turn left, cross the road to join the circuit 100 m further on the left which will take you back to the starting point.

Museum Gaspar is housed in the residence of the middle-class family Gaspar from Arlon who had set up in this house (1893) that was built in 1842. It was renovated in 2004. The two most famous members of this family are animal sculptor Jean-Marie Gaspar (1861-1931) and Charles Gaspar (1971-1950) who was a photographer and a sponsor. He gave his house to the town of Arlon on the condition they make a museum of it, dedicated to his brother's work and that put into honour the history and the heritage of Arlon. At the first floor, theree are two restored salons identical to a middle-class salon from the early 20th century that show Jean-Marie Gaspar's sculptures. and the art and picture collection of Charles Gaspar. The rest of the first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions of the museum that alternates artv and history. A religion room shows collections about the abbey of Orval and to the people's devotion at the 18th century, and also relics from the ancient Saint-Martin church. But the Masterpiece is the famous altarpiece Retable de Fisenne - a 16th century masterpiece from the Antwerp school. It was bought in 1893 by a middle-class family from Arlon, the family Gaspar. Jean Gaspar (1861-1931) was a sculptor. He was trained by the Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux. His works are in bronze and in plaster and they are exhibited in the salons that have been restorated as they were in his house. His brother Charles (1871-1950) was a photographer, a collector and a sponsor. He gave this house to the town of Arlon. It hosts the library of the Archaeological Institute of the Belgian Province of Luxembourg and its secretary office since 1954. A wide part of the museum is also dedicated to temporary exhibitions about art and history of Arlon.

It was in1887 that Jacques Lobstein, owner of brewery Dommartin, start to contruct buildings of the future. The big brewery and malt house Vosgienne were better adapted to the standarts of industrial brewing. The work ended in 1900 with the malt house. A beautiful résidence, designed by architect Clasquin, remplaced the former premises in 1904. Aroud 1930, his son René Lostein, modernized the brewery and built a magnificient brew hall in art-eco style. The brewery stops brewing the famous beer from the Vosges in 1956 but the company stayed active till 1975. Some of the buildings became a museum in 1987. Brewing demonstations have been performed since 1993.

Bouzemont est un très vieux village plein de légendes et son église Saint-Georges est I ‘une des plus anciennes du département des Vosges. Elle fut construite en 1065 par Udon, évêque de Toul et relevait du chapitre de Saint-Gengoult. Il reste de l'édifice primitif, une partie du clocher et les arcades de la nef (M.H.) La travée qui termine le bas-côté sud, est du XIIIe siècle. Quant aux voûtes et au chœur pentagonal, ils datent de 1534, année où l’église primitive fut à peu près remise à neuf.

The Chapel of the Annunciation of Thiélouze in Uzemain Overlooking the Vosges canal, in a peaceful setting, the chapel opens every day for free tours. This multi-secular building from the end of the 13th century was restored in 2016 and houses a dozen of remarkable religious objects, eight of which are listed or classified as historical monuments. Dedicated to Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation, the chapel has a simple and mixed architecture. Its entrance portal is Norman. The Marian devotion has always been important, as confirms the presence of a 14th century limestone statue of the Madonna and Child and a bell from 1504. One of the most successful sculptures in the world inspired the "three hares" motif which appears on a stone of the façade. A brotherhood of more than 600 members happily embody the everlasting feeling of attachment from the residents to this important religious and heritage site. The interior of the chapel calls for meditation. The mural colours and the celestial light brought in by 3 double-glazed windows invite you to calm down. The observation of the religious objects in lime wood or oak judiciously exposed (Madonna and child, Sainte-Anne, Saint-Nicolas and Christ on the cross) and the contemplation of the painting of the Annunciation by Nicolas Bellot lead to wonder.

The round chapel or chapel of the Good Father: it is a small chapel that was built in 1834 above the village under the influence of canon Hadol, to a place where St. Peter Fourier liked to go to rest and to pray, in the shade of a tree that had even planted it. Legend: in those days the fields stretched to the horizon, the harvesters working in the fields. Then to water the peasants Pierre Fourier planted his stick and brought forth a source. It considered miraculous was captured at the time of the construction of the chapel. Then, planting his stick this one would be transformed into a beautiful tree to provide shade to the reapers.

The Basilica St. Pierre Fourier Mattaincourt Vosges is a religious building of the nineteenth century. It was built in 1853 by the Hadolen canon for the canonization of Pierre Fourier on the site of the old church of Mattaincourt where he officiated.
