Théâtre Antique d'Orange

The ancient theater of Orange is the best preserved in the Western world. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981, it owes its fame to its monumental stage wall. "The most beautiful wall in my kingdom", said Louis XIV. The audioguided tour will take you back through the history of the monument, as well as the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, which traces the history of Orange from antiquity to the 20th century. Built at the beginning of the Christian era, it owes its reputation to the remarkable preservation of its stage wall. The Theatre features all the components of the Latin Theatre according to Vitruvius: the cavea (hemicyclic seating), the side entrances and the stage wall flanked by parascenia. Designed to accommodate Gallo-Roman audiences, this was the place to spread Roman culture and language. 9,000 spectators could attend tragedies and comedies, as well as dance, acrobatics and juggling shows. Columns and numerous statues in niches originally decorated the stage wall. Burnt down in the 4th century, the theater lost its original function. Its location at the foot of the hill made it an integral part of the city's defense. Over time, it was invaded by houses and became a veritable residential district. It wasn't until the 19th century that the ancient theater was revived as a performance venue. Auguste Caristie, chief architect of historic monuments, was responsible for its restoration. Today, the theater welcomes tens of thousands of spectators every year for various summer events, including the famous Chorégies. The virtual reality experience "Les Secrets du Théâtre, un voyage inattendu" plunges you into the heart of the Theater's golden age in the 1st century, to discover its monumental sets. At the heart of the Theatre's visit is an educational trail entitled "From Roman to Modern Genius", which shows you how Roman genius developed in a remarkable way and left its mark on our modern culture and civilization. A new "Legends of the Theatre" tour is also available, allowing you to experience the magic of contemporary shows through 360° videos. Built under Tiberius in the 1st century, the Arc de Triomphe served as the gateway to the Roman city of Arausio. Its magnificent panels and friezes commemorate Roman victories over barbarian peoples. Another testament to Roman grandeur in Orange, the Arc de Triomphe was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1981. Store open every day, all year round

Domaine Fontaine du Clos

In Sarrians, at the heart of Vaucluse, the Fontaine du Clos Estate has been in the Barnier family for 4 generations. Our 50 different grape varieties allow us to propose 15 different wines under the Vacqueyras, Côtes du Rhône and Vin de Pays de Vaucluse labels. A family estate for 5 generations now, the Barnier family has seen its business evolve over time, from silkworm cultivation, livestock farming and market gardening, to finally specializing in vine growing with the Fontaine du Clos estate and wine nursery. Marie and Léon Barnier have managed to grow the business by maintaining this diversity, while always keeping a foothold in viticulture. Under the impetus of Nicole and Jean, a new direction was taken with the creation of the wine nursery in 1980, followed by the private winery in 1990. The estate has never ceased to evolve, thanks in particular to the work of Céline and Jean-François, who took up the torch in the 2000s following their studies in viticulture and management. Their first experience was in the field, when they joined the nursery team. This experience enabled them to understand and master the entire viticultural cycle, from the production of raw materials for the vine to the elaboration and marketing of their wines. The estate as we know it today boasts 50 different grape varieties. This palette, combined with the work of each member of the company and the BARNIER family, is the strength of our wines today, which are both atypical and gourmet, with IGP Vaucluse, IGP Méditerranée, AOP Côtes du Rhône and AOP Vacqueyras.

Avignon Bridge - Pont Saint Benezet

The Saint Bénezet bridge, a major witness of the history of Avignon, is known throughout the world thanks to the famous song. Built from the 12th century, it was washed away several times by the floods of the Rhone, and finally abandoned in the seventeenth century. Classified World Heritage by UNESCO. According to the legend, the bridge was built in the 12th century by a young shepherd from Ardèche - Bénezet - who heard voices telling him to build a bridge in Avignon. The bridge was completed in 1185, creating the only place to cross the Rhône between Lyon and the Mediterranean sea. The bridge originally spanned approximately 900 meters and had 22 arches. It was dismantled in 1226, then rebuilt. It was later washed away several times by flood waters and rebuilt until it was abandoned in the 17th century. Today, all that remains are four arches and a chapel dedicated to Saint Nicolas. The bridge is famous the world over due to the lovely children's song "Sur le pont d’Avignon". The Pont d’Avignon was a true feat of engineering, and was continually being worked on and repaired. A source of legends, an emblematic monument of the area, the bridge has been the subject of unprecedented interdisciplinary research since 2010. Under the aegis of the greater Avignon area and the CNRS, a wide community of researchers has been conducting work. Their results have led to new museum areas and displays, and a multimedia approach which re-creates the bridge in 3D in the many settings that changed over the centuries. - Multi-media display and audioguide with new descriptions resulting from the scientific research on the legends and history of the bridge. Multimedia apps can be downloaded on smart phone ou tablets (AppStore / Google Play) on the sites-papes www.palais-des.com / www.grandavignon.fr or at the reception desk at Pont d’Avignon via a specific terminal. The Naturoptère

Located in Sérignan-du-Comtat, opposite the Harmas of the famous naturalist Jean-Henri FABRE, the Naturoptère is a cultural and educational center dedicated to the living world. Visit the exhibitions and gardens of this unusual site and learn more about the biodiversity that surrounds us. In the heart of a building designed as part of an innovative eco-architecture project, the fun and scientific exhibits will enable you to take a naturalistic look at the world around you. Through discovery, observation and manipulation, you'll explore the interactions and relationships between living beings and their natural environment. Come and take a closer look! Continue your visit in the gardens, ideal places for discovering and respecting biodiversity. The semi-natural garden invites you to wander among plants that evolve with the passing of time and the seasons. Take the time to observe the incredible richness of nature. You can also explore the various educational gardens, which encourage the conservation and observation of the associated biodiversity: the edible forest, the arid garden, the rock garden, the vegetable garden, as well as the ecological pond and the phytodepuration basin. And above all, don't miss the program of workshops that offer you moments of complicity and learning with family and friends. Share in the construction of a wooden structure that will allow biodiversity to flourish in your garden, learn about local flora and fauna, whet the curiosity of toddlers or take part in a game of escapism on the premises. Join us for the many cultural and scientific events offered by the Naturoptère throughout the year: nature outings, courses, training, exhibitions, theater, music, dance shows... Follow us on social networks: Facebook, Instagram, Youtube. Wheelchair-accessible. Please contact 04 90 30 33 20 beforehand to arrange access to the footpath by car.
