Nestling in the heart of the town, the Chartreuse du Val de Bénédiction is a jewel of Gothic architecture extending over almost 2 hectares. Today, it is a cultural center offering year-round programming.
Come and admire its masterpieces, the mausoleum of Pope Innocent VI and the frescoes by painter Matteo Giovannetti, and take time out to relax in its gardens for a refreshing break.
Founded in the 14th century by Pope Innocent VI, it became one of Europe's most prosperous until the mid-18th century. When the monks left during the French Revolution, it was sold and inhabited by the villagers, before being restored in the early 20th century and becoming a Cultural Center in 1973.
Today, this remarkable heritage site is animated by a cultural project centered on performing arts, and welcomes numerous artists in residence. Throughout the season, La Chartreuse offers a rich and varied cultural program (shows, readings, artistic encounters, temporary exhibitions, conferences, etc.).
