This very easy urban trail is a great way to discover some of the most emblematic sites and monuments in Dieppe’s old town: the marina, Saint-Jacques Church, the jetty, the seafront, the town centre and the imposing château perched atop the cliff. This walking tour is a pleasant way to spend one hour learning about the history of Dieppe, from fortified town to seaside resort. This first route within Dieppe can be supplemented by Trail No. 2.

A special place, assembling a collection of objects associated with the famous French composer in the house where he was born: Claude Debussy's birthplace is located in the historic quarter of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. It was in this 17-century house in the town that Claude Debussy was born, on 22 August 1862, and spent his early childhood. His father ran a china shop on the ground floor. After the composer's death in 1918, it soon became the main gathering place of his many admirers. Once inside, you will discover a wonderful little inner courtyard, where a splendid wooden staircase will lead you up to the museum. The museum, officially recognised as a 'Maison des illustres' ('Houses of the Famous'), displays objects and photographs that help provide a better understanding of the composer's creative process. In fact, Debussy liked to surround himself with objects from different places and artistic movements, which influenced his music. For example, a Japanese lacquered panel, which came from his Parisian mansion, depicting two fish swimming under a willow, musically metamorphosed into 'Poissons d'or', a piano piece (1907). Listed as a historical monument, the abbey has one of the most beautiful examples of Gothic refectory in France. It has conserved some of its medieval features and today has three gardens: an experimental vegetable garden, opened in 2014, a medieval inspiration garden, and the garden of the monastery transformed into a ravishing French garden in 1912. The abbey is open every day, from 10 am to 6 pm (5:30 pm between November and March). The longest sea wall and promenade on the Alabaster Coast (1.5 km) protecting the houses from the sea during storms. The bed of the river Veulettes was channelled and altered to pass under the hill and flow into the neighbouring Durdent valley. Follow the walk along the Durdent Valley and go and explore the heritage trail around the restored bunkers on the cliff. Lifeguard patrolled beach in July and August.

Leave from Veulettes-sur-Mere for a walk to Paluel. This nature walk will allow you to explore the banks of the river Durdent, a small 23-km long river whose estuary has a fishway that allows them to swim up the river to breed. In the heart of the site listed a ZNIEFF (Natural Area of Ecological, Faunistic and floristic interest), you might be able to see Eurasian teals or hear the song of a reed warbler. You will be surprised to see that the water is crystal clear. A 7-km walk, including 80% in the site itself with no cars, that allows you to explore the wet meadows of the Lower Durdent Valley. From the Pont Rouge on the seafront in Veulettes sur Mer/ Paluel, a one-kilometre-long educational trail winds up the cliff between bunkers that are visible from former trenches, which were partly recreated. Four areas have been converted into interpretative centres, inside or around restored bunkers that you can visit: - The exceptional ecological value of the site and natural heritage management (under construction) - The History of the German station - The Atlantic Wall and life under the occupation - The Memory bunker
