This route takes you on a journey through the longstanding history of this mountain area and its enchanting hamlets. This path takes the name of the man who opened it and traced it. The mountain is made of gypsum; this is the reason why the soil has got some holes at the top. Some fantastic views at the summit. Departure : Lac Go along the Doron River to the top of the campsite, take the path just before the bridge where the track starts "Dent du Villard". Then carry on to the top through lots of zigzags. Dent du Villard from la Rosière (Courchevel) : You can also start from the “lac de la Rosière” (800 m high) which is easy to reach by car.

This walk through the forest is a botanical marvel. There is exceptional flora. Go along the Doron river to the top of the campsite, take the path just before the bridge where the trail « Dent du Villard » starts (Or trail « Christian Gachet »). After some zigzags in the Chevelu woods, a track on the right returns to the west side to the “Reposoir”. The trail then goes down to “l’Epine” and then to “Les Moulins” and the campsite.

At the bottom of the Grand Bec, come to take advantage of a walk accessible for everybody in a place well equipped for the all family. Take benefit of Bozel’s lake and its swimming area watched by lifeguard in July and august, free access. All around the lake, you can find equipment and activities: picnic area, aquatic activities, playground for children, bar-restaurant. On the upper part of the site, children and adults can have access to a big leisure zone (pumptrack, playground, city, tennis court, paragliding…). For people who wants to go further, you can have a look on the interpretive trail located around the Doron river of Bozel.

This walk will allow you to see some typical villages of Bozel, following the "Miner Path" which was the miner's itinerary who went up to Tincave's mine which was still open right up to 1960. Departure : Tourist Office Follow the church; and the Vineyards trail and then up to the trail towards Villemartin. In the centre of Villemartin, go to the front of St Jacques Chapel and up to "Grande Sarrire" street. At the top, take the right street for 50m, then left and follow "Ratelard" and "Lachenal". Carry on crossing the Bonrieu River till Tincave. From down the village, go back down to Bozel. Variation : From Villemarton, you can go back to Bozel through a trail. From Lachenal, follow Bozel. From Tincave, a path goes down to le Villard and Bozel.

The Bike Park is accessible for riders of all levels, from beginner to experienced. It offers a wide range of trails and equipment to help you learn and progress, with zones reworked for the pleasure of riding downhill. The La Plagne Bike Park, in short: - 11 downhill trails: 1 black, 2 red, 5 blue, 3 green - 3 chairlifts (Colorado, Colosses, Bergerie) with bike attachments, specifically for the Bike Park! The trails are accessible in July and August, during lift opening hours.

Back to basics: a warm and friendly, rustic, and peaceful atmosphere. Easy access: breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys, magical sunsets, and a majestic mountain cirque. Accessible to children, parents, grandparents, hikers, and climbers. You can even bring your pet with you to this wonderful setting. Pets are not welcome outside the National Park boundaries. On a secluded terrace overlooking the Champagny le Haut valley, the Plan des Gouilles refuge welcomes mountaineers (heading for the Grand Bec), hikers (on the Vallaisonnay and Grande Casse tours) and passing guests for the night or just for the day. Perched at an altitude of 2,347 metres at the foot of the Grand Bec glaciers, the refuge can be reached in 2½ hours on foot from the Bois car park in Champagny-le-Haut, and via several hiking trails that cross the Vanoise. The refuge has 40 beds (3 dormitories). You can choose between half-board or using the picnic area. It is staffed from June to mid-September and open unstaffed the rest of the year. During the day, à la carte dining is available. You can swim in the lake of Bozel with swimming patrolled by lifeguards in July and August. Everybody can swim with a small area for children and a big one for adults. You have got a bar / restaurant and a leisure place. Throughout “les rives du Doron” leisure park, animals must be kept on a leash. Access to the beach area is prohibited for animals, even if kept on a leash. Access to bathing for animals is prohibited throughout the lac.

The name of this village comes from the low Latin term Buxellus, diminutive of Bocus (wood) which became Boselus. During the French Revolution, Bozel went by the name of Fructidor. Traces of human presence in Bozel date back to 2500 BC!Perched on the banks of Le Bonrieu stream at an altitude of 860m, on the sun-facing slopes, this village is brimming with things to see and do. There is a wealth of Baroque heritage to discover here, not least with Notre-Dame-de-Tout Pouvoir Chapel, St François-de-Sales Church and Sarrazine Tower, which is a surprising building. There is a lakeside leisure centre nearby where you can unwind and cool off on returning from your outing! And let's not forget that Bozel also lies at the foot of the sweeping ski areas of the 3 Vallées and Paradiski, as well as being the start point for a wide range of hikes.

Bozel is located in the heart of the Savoie, in Tarentaise. Just after Moutiers, the Bozel’s valley is famous with its proximity of the Vanoise National Park. Bozel it’s at 860 m of altitude, and it goes to 2594 m height with the Roc du Becoin and with the Mont Jovet (2589 m height) and the Dent du Villard (2284 m height). The centre of the village is located in the border of the stream of the Bonrieu which gave before the energy of the mill and other sawmill. The village has got different services, schools, shops, leisure area and handcraft area really active. The way of how the different hamlets are located show the ancestral way of life, which was based on the cultivation and on the farm. The most part of the people are leaving in the south mountainside. Then, we can find the hamlet of Villemartin, les Mollinets, le Ratelard, Lachenal and Tincave, they are lively all the year long. Upper 1300 m height, the hamlet of les Champs, les Monts, le Pré, le Cour and Mirabozon are lively only during the summer. The north mountainside has got less people. Only les Moulins is lively all the year long. Upper we can find l’Epine, le Reposoir and Montcharvet, relic of old farms that are now recover by the forest. In summer, Bozel is close to the Vanoise massif which is really attractive for hiking. In the winter, the village is really close to big ski areas, 3 Vallées and Paradiski, which is really attractive for snow sports. History... Bozel has got different name before: Bosellis (1170), Bossel (1691), Boselles (1759) and Bozeil (1764). Its name comes from the latin word “Buxellus” which mean the “wood”. The people of Bozel are named “Bozelains” and “Bozelaines”. Bozel has still got a proof of a human being in Savoie, and particularly in Bozel, 2500 years ago BC. Bozel had an important vineyard and its most important economy was the production of cheese (Beaufort) which was exported in Italy (Piemont) through the “Col de la Vanoise”. It’s the reason why the architecture of our villages and hamlets are like this: Houses (or chalets) was used for living and for the cultivation. The first floors was often half-buried and build with rocks, it was used for human living and for stable for cattle, which was used to reheat the room. The upper floors were built with wood and were used as hayloft. At the end of the 19th century, Bozel has seen a new era with the ore-mining from 1880, a new factory in le Villard du Planay in 1898 and a power station in les Moulins in 1910. 200 employees were working in this factory in 1920 which closed in 1984. The valley has been then developed with the tourism, with the hydrotherapy industry first and the mountaineering and with the winter sports. The ski resorts have been developed in 45-60’s with Courchevel.

Its frontage ornament with painted scenes prefigures the Baroque design inside. ND-de Tout-Pouvoir, like other neighbouring pilgrimage chapels, features a plan in the form of a Greek cross, surmounted by an octagonal dome topped by a lantern. The outside of this elegant building features surprising decorative details including painted scenes that provide a hint of décor inside the chapel. In 1780, two brothers, Pierre and Joseph Desdominique, decorated the eight-sided dome with episodes illustrating the life of the Virgin Mary. The pendentives are also adorned with images of the four evangelists. In 1850, paintings were added to the walls and pillars although only the Four Fathers of the Latin Church today remain. A holy statue of the Virgin Mary, to whom the sanctuary was originally dedicated, once occupied the niche of the 1754 Baroque altarpiece but it was destroyed during the French Revolution and replaced by a 19th century statue of the Madonna and Child. Between the twisted columns, beneath the altar curtain, are statues of Saint Joachim and Saint Joseph, the father and husband of Mary respectively.

This tower was built between the 12th and 13th centuries, but its name (derived from 'Saracen') refers solely to its typical, solid, square construction. 19m tall, it was originally three storeys high and movement between floors was via ladders or steep staircases.The thick walls provided a passive form of defence, and the roof was added later. The tower was probably used as a residence as well as a strategic observation post over the surrounding villages and valleys. The ground floor was most likely used for storing provisions (this level was partially filled in when the Bonrieu stream broke its banks) and the second floor by nobility. The upper levels were private quarters.An ostentatious symbol of the local lords' power, the tower was surrounded by a series of buildings of unknown size and nature. Open from mid July until the end of August, from 15:00 until 19:00, except on Saturdays.

Its name bears witness to the mills it accommodated in days gone by, which were provisioned by the stream. The pools that once acted as diversion channels for the stream’s waters still exist. The mills were used to activate the bellows of 3 forges, 2 sawmills, and the millstones of 3 mills (1 communal, 1 for extracting walnut oil and 1 for fulling wool). The exterior of its chapel, dedicated to Saint Agatha and rebuilt in 1659, is well worth a look, and the remarkable archaeological site of Le Chenêt des Pierres is also nearby. The first pottery dating back to 2500 BC was discovered there in 1909, in a badger’s sett, and is among the oldest traces of civilisation unearthed in Tarentaise.

The Tour Sarrazine has been built between the 12th and the 13th century. name is coming from the way of how it has been built and not from the Saracen invasion. Open july and august only. It has 3 levels at the beginning but the Bonrieu’s flood fill in one of the down level. Its high is 19 m and the wall are really thick (2,5m). The Tour Sarrazine is nowadays a museum which has a permanent exhibition dedicated to the human presence in the village from the Neolithic time to today. Every summer a new temporary exhibition is taking place. The Tour Sarrazine is open in July and August from Sunday to Friday from 3 to 7 pm.

Saint-François-de-Sales Church is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Savoie, and its interior décor is heavily steeped in Baroque influences. It is graced with two bell towers: one has a spire with two onion domes, the other an onion dome crowned with a cross and weather cock atop a globe, but the bell tower, its spire as well as the interior furniture were damaged during the Revolution. Incidentally, this church was even used as a warehouse for storing the saltpetre necessary for making gunpowder until 1800. Between 1840 and 1856, various sculptors crafted new altarpieces in succession: the main altarpiece located on either side of the central scene, where the pulpit is remarkable, and the Rosary altarpiece, which is typical of the Baroque period. In light of the growing population, the building was extended in 1976 to create a new, bigger gallery. Open all year round from 9:00 to 19:00, to visit at your leisure. The chapel is laid out in a Greek cross, crowned by an octagonal dome. Between 1780 and 1850, an array of religious scenes were painted to decorate the sides of the dome, pendentives, walls and pillars. There used to be a statue in the 1754 altarpiece of the miraculous Virgin, whose veneration prompted the building of the chapel, but this was destroyed during the French Revolution and replaced by a Virgin with Child from the 19th century. Camp 1,450m above sea level, in the protected natural area of Champagny le Haut, with a 360° view of some of the most impressive peaks in the Vanoise massif, like the Grande Motte and the Grande Casse. The ideal base camp, close to the most beautiful hikes. Close to some of Savoie’s most impressive peaks, Huttopia Vanoise Campsite: Champagny Sector is located in a remarkable natural setting at an altitude of 1,450m, near the best hiking trails in the area. You’d be staying only a few kilometres from the protected valley of Champagny le Haut, known for its traditional hamlets and architectural heritage. At the gateway to the Parc naturel de la Vanoise, Camping Huttopia Vanoise - Champagny welcomes you to a protected natural site, with your tent, caravan, camper or van, under a forest of hundred-year-old fir trees or beside a river. Or opt for comfortable accommodation: - In a Canadian tent (5 people) or a Bonaventure tent (2 people)? Whichever you choose, you'll wake up to a breathtaking view of the Vanoise peaks. - In a fully-equipped Montana chalet (6 people) with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a common room with a fully-equipped kitchen, a dining area and a living room with a wood-burning stove for cooler days.

On a secluded terrace overlooking the Champagny le Haut valley, the Plan des Gouilles refuge welcomes mountaineers (heading for the Grand Bec), hikers (on the Vallaisonnay and Grande Casse tours) and passing guests for the night or just for the day. Perched at an altitude of 2,347 metres at the foot of the Grand Bec glaciers, the refuge can be reached in 2½ hours on foot from the Bois car park in Champagny-le-Haut, and via several hiking trails that cross the Vanoise. The refuge has 40 beds (3 dormitories). You can choose between half-board or using the picnic area. It is staffed from June to mid-September and open unstaffed the rest of the year. During the day, à la carte dining is available. From Champagny: - a simple round trip during the day from Le Bois (2½ hours uphill, 1½ hours downhill) - a day loop via the Méribel chalets from the EDF dam (3½ hours uphill, 2 hours downhill) - these two itineraries can be extended with a night in a refuge Basic rates: Overnight stay - €19 (young people €10.45, children free) Dinner - €20, Breakfast - €9 Picnic to take away - €10.50

The refuge is located next to the Vanoise National Park, reached by car in winter and summer. At Champagny le Haut, this refuge at the entrance of the Vanoise National Park is accessible summer and winter by road (parking nearby - buses 50 places allowed). In winter, the refuge is ideally located at the start of the cross-country ski trails and at 5 km by shuttle from the ski lifts of La Plagne / Paradiski®. Sleeping in dormitories, partitioned for your comfort in "boxes" (cabins closed by curtain) of 4 single bunk beds. Duvets and pillow cases provided. It is recommended to bring your own personal cloth. Sanitary (separation Men / Women) with washbasins and individual showers. Bathroom linen not provided. If it is possible, we award a complete box even if you are 1, 2, or 3 people, without extra charge. Beautiful dining room with 80 seats (+ terrace) Possible access to a pic-nic room. It offers wheelchair access to the dining room and accessible toilets. Graceful loans of an all-way module and 3 audio guides for people with motor and visual disabilities. Accreditation by the Departmental Education of Savoie for the reception of the schoolchildren. The refuge is located at the end of the road in winter (departure of the cross-country skiing trails) and in the centre of the valley of Champagny le Haut in summer (the road ends 3 km higher). Parking in the Bouquetin car park is limited to 7 days for light vehicles. Parking for motorhomes is limited to 24 hours by municipal decree. For a longer duration, contact the campsites. Public restrooms, water spigot.
