Roaming along the roads of the historical centre, this city tour will take you on a discovery of Pontarlier’s emblematic locations: architectural, historical and symbolic city buildings, the banks of the Doubs and a viewpoint over the city. From the Tourist Office (), descend rue de la Gare to rue de la République.Head to Place d’Arçon, on your left. From here, you can see the Saint-Pierre gate at the end of the road.From the square, take rue de la Halle near the theatre. At the end of the road, head to the old barracks via place des Bernardines and place Cretin, on your right. Go to the bridge across the Doubs by heading through place Jules Pagnier and rue de Morteau.From here, make a round trop (1.2 km) to the Armand Guy distillery via rue des Lavaux.On returning to rue de Morteau, enter the park on the edge of the Doubs and follow the embankments on a little adapted path; this will take you to the other side of the park. Join up with rue de la République by leaving the park through rue Julez Mathez, where you will find the Jeanne d’Arc high school.   On arriving at rue de la République, head left until you reach another bridge over the Doubs. From here, make a round trip to the Hospital to observe its facade and the two chapels that can be seen from the road.On returning to rue de la République, after crossing the bridge once more, head down rue Montrieux and take rue Gambetta on your right to reach place Saint-Bénigne and the church. From the square, head to the train station vie rue Tissot. From here, you can head directly to the Tourist Office via rue de la Gare. You can also make a round trip of under 2 km to the Chapelle de l’Espérance, with a stunning viewpoint over the whole city. It can be accessed by heading down rocade George Pompidou until you come to rue du Stand, then head under the railway and take rue de la Chapelle (yellow waymarking) directly to the viewpoint.

A succession of ascents and descents, paths, trails and little roads to reach the Morillon cliffs, the Langouette gorges and the belvedere of Les Prés Grillet. From CHAUX-DES-CROTENAY, head down the tarmac road (red MTB waymarking no. 69) towards Le Gros Tilleul. Turn right to reach La Fontaine Neuve and La Chaux Church. Branch off to the left on the tarmac road towards La Loye. Take the stony path that enters the forest to your right, towards La Côte Coulon and the Morillon cliffs in LE CERNOIS.Continue on the stony path that soon turns to tarmac and that runs along the cliffs and heads up to Le Rachet. Take the tarmac road to your right through the open combe of Entre-deux-Monts to reach the hamlet of Les Merets. Turn onto the road to your right and quickly turn left to take the stony path down towards the forest and up to the Étang des Drillettes (Drillettes lake). Continue on the muddy path that heads right up to Les Drillettes, and then take the long forest road along the Quenot rivulet to the road in Sous Grateloup. Carefully cross the départemental road and take the road opposite you that will lead you to the LAVOIR (washhouse) - LES PLANCHES-EN-MONTAGNE via La Fontenette and Le Girod. Continue on the main village road towards Bas du Village. Head down the road to your left and cross a bridge over the La Langouette gorges. Continue on the road, past LE MARTINET and reach Montliboz. Branch off to the right on a stony path that then heads up into the forest, towards Derrière la Montagne Ronde (“behind the round mountain”). Take the muddy path that follows along the right of the D 16 until you reach Chez Tatet, and then take the tarmac road down to La Feuillée au Loup. Turn left onto a small forest path towards La Voie Sacrée. Follow the white path to your right for 200 metres, and then turn left into an area with railings and a building. Follow a long and narrow trail through the forest. Exit onto a tarmac road, turn left and follow the trail to LES PRÉS GRILLETS. After the short out-and-back to the belvedere of Les Prés Grillets, continue on the tarmac road towards La Grande Cheminée. Descend to your left on the stony forest path and take the winding trail to your right to reach Les Messageries. Turn left on the tarmac road and reach the hamlet of Cornu. Continue left onto the road to the hamlet and then turn right just before the last farm. Head up the stony path through the pastures to reach Les Champs Montants. Turn right and return to your point of departure in CHAUX-DES-CROTENAY via a little stony path.

An enchanting location! Three natural lakes with turquoise and emerald waters, surrounded by greenery and exceptional wetlands offering an accessible family walk. From the parking lot, carefully cross the D 75 (yellow waymarking) and head to the Monts des Ifs intersection. Follow the path to the left below the road and reach the top of the LAC DU PETIT MACLU (Petit Maclu Lake). Take the good stony path along the lakes, heading past the Petit Maclu and the Grand Maclu, and after a small forest section, arrive at the edge of the Lac d’Ilay before joining up with the Chemin des lacs.  Continue on the path to your right (white and red waymarking) until you reach Lac d’Ilay.Continue on, following along the right of the D 75 (yellow waymarking), head past a pasture (with barriers to contain the livestock) and locate a grassy path just below the road towards the entrance of the village of Fresnois, at the junction with Chemin des Bornes.Take the good path to the right, bordered by meadows, for around 350 metres. At the fork, head left and join up with the D 75. Take a path to the right that heads away from the road towards Mont des Ifs.Carefully cross the road again to return to the Monts des Ifs parking lot.

Easy circuit, without great difficulty, ideal with children or to start. The loop revolves around 4 lakes of glacial origin, the deepest of which is Narlay. Also called Scotland by its resemblance to the Loch Mare region.

Petit Maclu and Grand Maclu, Ilay and Narlay: these are four emblematic lakes of the riparian Jura landscape often called “Little Scotland”. Families with young children should choose the trip around the three lakes, which is shorter and only includes one road crossing. From the parking lot, carefully cross the D 75 (yellow waymarking) and head to the Monts des Ifs intersection. Follow the path to the left below the road and reach the top of the LAC DU PETIT MACLU (Petit Maclu Lake). Take the good stony path along the lakes, heading past the Petit Maclu and the Grand Maclu, and after a small forest section, arrive at the edge of the Lac d’Ilay before joining up with the Chemin des lacs.  Continue on the path to your right (white and red waymarking) until you reach Lac d’Ilay. (If you would like to shorten this circuit and only take the trip around the three lakes, branch off to the right and take the Chemin des Bornes, followed by the Mont des Ifs.)From the Lac d’Ilay intersection, carefully cross the D 75 and follow a tree-lined path towards the hamlet of LA FROMAGERIE.Turn right (yellow waymarking) onto a long wooded path bordered by hedges, which heads to Le Raffour and then right to the village LE FRASNOIS.Turn left. Chemin de la Vierge heads along the back of the village and meets up with the D 75 to the right. Take the road to your left, head past the church and the town hall and take the road towards Lac de Narlay.At the Vers Narlay intersection, continue on the road to your left, and head towards the houses at the bottom of the hamlet. Follow the stony path that heads up and along the left of the lake. The path will take you up to the Monts des Ifs parking lot.

A quick peddle around the National Natural Reserve of the Remoray lake and the Saint Point lake, a circuit with diverse relief and marked by a belvedere that opens onto both lakes in the green valley of the High Doubs. From the centre of REMORAY, ) take the “route des Grandes Plaines” to your right (red MTB waymarking no. 12), which gradually ascends to a forest massif towards La Côte. Take a small muddy trail to the left, and join up with a forest path, continuing again to the left for around 900 m. In the wide bend to the right, turn left (MTB crossing) and exit onto a pasture. Follow the path to your left and then the white path that leads to Sur la Côte. Head up the earthy path to the right, through the pastures, towards la Grande Combe. Branch off to the left on a white path that heads into the forest and, after around 600 metres, turn right onto a grassy trail. From here, follow a succession of small muddy, grassy or stony trails that soon meet up with a forest road. Head down the road to your left, head past the Les Trois Portes chalet and branch off to the right to follow a path along the forest for around 1 km.Branch off to the left again and follow the forest path that meets up with a forest road after 450 m. Follow this road to the left for 150 m and take the path to the right.Joining up with a wide forest path just before descending to the village of Boujeons, do not miss the trail that turns left straight away (MTB path) and crosses through the pastures until coming to the village of Boujeons. Take the main village road by turning left, then turn right down towards the village sawmill. Cross a small bridge and leave the village, taking the tarmac road that ascends to your left and turns into a white path through the pastures until you reach La Plaine à Chaillet. Cross the pasture by turning left, then take the forest trail that opens onto a white path. Shortly after, turn left (MTB path) and cross the pastures using a small grassy trail until you come to Les Brétilles, just above Le Brey. Take the road to the left, without heading all the way down to the main road, and then follow a stony path that ascends into the forest through a clearing. Branch off to the right on a forest track that heads up to the BELVEDERE OF THE TWO LAKES (BELVEDERE DES DEUX LACS). Head down a small muddy trail to a road, then turn right to reach theRF Marcel Goux Parking lot. Head left to the Buclet intersection on the road towards Remoray. Follow the road to your left for 100 m and take the parallel forest path that once again comes out onto this road. Head up to REMORAY after crossing the bridge over the Drésine, a small river that feeds the Remoray lake.

Our farm is open to share our passion for breeding: Charolais cows, wagyus (the best meat in the world) and Selle Français sport horses. We are committed to respect for animals, the environment and transparency. Wagyu, the legendary Japanese beef. "Waygyu" means "Japanese beef". This breed is at the origin of several exceptional meat-producing regions (Kobe beef, Hida beef, Ishigaki beef, etc.) throughout the Japanese archipelago. It was at the end of the 19th century, after more than a hundred years of prohibition, that the Japanese population began to consume the meat of oxen previously used for agricultural work. The breed was selected for the marbling of its meat, but also for its docility. Respect for animals and their environment is an integral part of Japanese Buddhist culture. One of the best beef cuts in the world! The marbling (intramuscular fat) gives the meat its taste: its importance is a characteristic of hardy breeds that is lost with selection to increase muscle mass. It explains the unrivalled flavor of Wagyu beef and its exceptional smoothness. Wagyu beef is also rich in unsaturated fatty acids, notably Omega 3. These essential fatty acids are beneficial to health and help prevent certain diseases. Wagyu cattle are particularly well cared for, avoiding any stress. They are fattened throughout their development, reaching maturity at 3 years. Charolais, an excellent traditional meat! We also raise a herd of Charolais cattle, carefully selected to produce quality meat. For direct sale, we reserve young cows aged 4-6 years who have had one to three calves: this is what gives the tastiest, most tender meat. They are fattened with the same high-quality feed as Wagyu cattle, and the fattening period (from 4 to 12 months) ensures that the meat is very marbled for the breed, and therefore very tasty. Breeding in the Ain region. Our methods are based on the renowned tradition of Bresse breeding, and combine the very best in terms of genetics, feed, habitat and rearing methods, with respect for the animal (and the employees). The farm provides the cows' feed: natural meadows, artificial meadows (Swiss Mix) and cereals form the basis. The cows and their calves are raised freely in the meadows during the good season (March to November). We integrate respect for the environment into our breeding approach: hedges are planted, manure is treated by methanization and the energy thus supplied is used to dry fodder in the barn. We optimize crop production by alternating grazing with cattle and horses (thus also reducing parasite pressure). Finally, in keeping with Japanese culture, we take particular care to maintain the docility of our animals through respectful and attentive domestication.

At first glance, the landscape from this adapted belvedere offers mainly greenery. But take a look at its many hues: to the right, the dark gorges carved out by the Saine unfurl and open onto a small and quieter valley, where the river idly winds through a humid area before reaching a small village to your left. This is Syam, known for its smithies and Villa Palladienne.

Built in 1771 based on the design of the knight d’Arçon, to replace the entrance across the ramparts, the Saint-Pierre entrance is now one of the symbols of Pontarlier. Remodelled during the 12th century, it has kept its classical style and is listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments. Adorned with lines reminiscent of the Arc de Triomphe, the entrance appears like a crown atop the rue de la République and marks a symbolic transition from the more contemporary districts and the historic centre. During the early 20th century, the theatre was built as a reception hall above the Pontarlier market-hall. These market-halls are reminiscent of the large fairs that have been held in the city since the 13th century. During the 14th century, these fairs experienced a boom when the Col de Jougne (15 km south) became a commercial crossing point between the North Sea and the Mediterranean. The congregation of Les Annonciades Célestes de Pontarlier was established in 1609 by six young women from Pontarlier. The monastery’s baroque-style door, created by the sculptor Joseph Guyon, can still be admired. Its portal, which has been classed a historical monument, was completed in 1715 based on the plans set out by Nicolas Callier, an architect and entrepreneur from Besançon, and was later modified during the 19th century. At the heart of the historic centre is the vast expanse offered by the Place d’Arçon where the town hall and the Pontarlier museum are both located. The first was completed in 1838 and originally housed an indoor market on the ground floor. A former coach house, to which it owes its name, the La Poste brewery received the 20th Century Heritage label for its Art-Deco style. It is also famous for having been the place where “Septième Juré” starring Bernard Blier and “Les Granges Brûlées” starring Simone Signoret and Alain Delon were both filmed. The history of Pontarlier is built around its advantageous geographical location: a crossroads during the Middle Ages between the North Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, it benefitted from passing trade but also suffered from military invasions. With many forests and a large amount of iron ore, this town was built on farming and craftmanship. Its border location enabled a constant flow of goods, people, know-how and capital. The opening of absinthe distilleries, sometimes in collaboration with Switzerland, generated a period of great prosperity in terms of the town’s development and cultural identity. These barracks, which were built with some of the money allocated by Louis XV to reconstruct Pontarlier after the fire in 1736, could house up to 200 men and just as many horses. The two L-shaped buildings were linked by a huge door, however, the municipality refused to close the square on the other side. Philippe Grenier, a native of Pontarlier, lived from 1865 to 1944. He is remembered by locals for having been a doctor to the poor, but also for having been the first Muslim member of the French Parliament, elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1896. Philippe Grenier was therefore a Muslim in a Catholic country, promoting a lifestyle without the consumption of alcohol in the land of absinthe, and yet respected for his integrity and devotion to the most disadvantaged. The marina of Fontenoy-le-Château is along the Vosges canal. A few kilometres away, discover the city of Bains-les-Bains and the Manufacture Royale, one of the most beautiful industrials of the 18th century. In Fontenoy-le-Château, go and discover this medieval, typical village and admire the ruins of its castle. In the centre of the village, you will find a museum of embroidery and metalworking.
