Leaving Bazas, a pleasant footpath takes you to one of the eight most important natural sites in Gironde: Lac de la Prade, created in 1981 for irrigation purposes. "Les Balades à Roulettes® (BR®) are short, leisurely walks, with a baby carriage or small bike, or adapted for people with reduced mobility (in a wheelchair), offered by the Fédération Française de Randonnée de la Gironde".

The protected ornithological reserve of Lac de La Prade, 5 km from Bazas, is home to exceptional flora and fauna. Set amidst rolling hills, the immense reservoir provides a peaceful setting for birdwatching. A large colony of grey herons makes its home here, alongside pairs of great crested grebes. The lake's slopes are also one of Gironde's priority sites for dry orchid lawns. Fishing pontoons and picnic tables are available for walkers.

Travel the roads around Pondaurat and discover the local heritage: churches, nature, vineyards and forests. Departure from the car park of the war memorial in Pondaurat is recommended.

The Bazas - Castets and Castillon cycle route, an essential stage in the Tour de Gironde by bike, takes you either to the Entre-deux-Mers or to the South of Gironde. The landscapes it passes through are shaped on the one hand by mixed farming: wine, livestock and poultry farming, market gardening, cereals, wicker and tobacco, and on the other hand, by a rich natural and built heritage.

Departure is from the Bazas greenway towards Bernos-Beaulac, leading you to our iconic home of the Kings of Navarre: Château de Cazeneuve. After a visit to Queen Margot?s emblematic residence and some time under the park?s giant bamboo grove, it?s on to the refreshing gorges on the banks of the Ciron. This is an easy circuit, with a shady path running alongside the mythical river, a favorite with canoeists. The loop continues along fern-lined paths and back to the Cité jacquaire.

Auros is a county town of the Bazadais, that is to say of the old diocese of Bazas, located on a height which dominates the valley of the Garonne to the south, equidistant from the three important cities of Langon, Bazas, La Réole of approximately 10 kilometers The stream of Beuve crosses the town adding its picturesque to the landscapes, by its valley sometimes steep, its role once was considerable because it operated several mills cereal, including two Auros. The village has a superb 13th century baronial castle, now transformed into a reception area for events, the Cistercian abbey of Rivet in the Beuve valley, small local heritage and the Monco path where various varieties of wild orchids flourish.

Monco means "hot mountain" because the place is oriented to the south. The spring is abundant and provides water all year round. It fed one of the main wash houses of the village, which was used for centuries. In ruins, the wash-house was rebuilt identically in 1999.

The 13th century church was rebuilt by the Bordeaux architect Gustave Alaux in neo-gothic style in 1878. It preserves the 13th century dripstone walls that belonged to the former parish church. The church was also the chapel of the castle where the former barons of Auros were buried. In this church you can discover the 18th century wooden stall of the Father Abbot of Rivet.

Château La Peyrère du Tertre offers a reception room overlooking the gardens and cellars. Our 180 m² reception room is housed in the former wine storehouse. Entirely built of exposed stone, it features a large fireplace and 4 arches. A fully equipped kitchen is available for your catering needs. The hall can accommodate up to 120 seated guests and 200 in buffet format. Ideal for weddings, group photos, etc., the park is ideal for a wide range of events A marquee can be set up to increase capacity. There is ample private parking behind the reception hall. Château La Peyrère du Tertre also offers sleeping accommodation to suit your needs.

A bucolic place to stroll, the lake offers a remarkable setting for the diversity of its flora and fauna. A hiking trail, used by hikers and pilgrims of Compostela, allows you to discover its beauty.

The church dates from the 12th and 19th centuries. Its choir dates from the first Romanesque period, as can be seen outside the apse, held by thick buttresses. The arcaded bell tower, the stair tower and the porch date from the 19th century. A clever restoration since the year 2000 allowed it to obtain the award of the "fleurons du patrimoine" in the 2005 competition.

In front of the Lac de la Prade, take the small road that goes up towards the village of Gans. In feudal times, Gans had its own fortified castle. It was destroyed and replaced by the Château des Evêques in the 18th century. Indeed, the Bishops had made Gans their countryside and came to stay at the castle surrounded by its garenne, its orangery, its fountain and its charmilles. The 19th century church, located within the very walls of the feudal castle, is perhaps the former chapel of the castle. The town is not to be outdone when it comes to entertainment. You will perhaps have the pleasure of crossing the path of the Fifres and Tambours de Gans which punctuate certain events in the region. A night market in June and, for the more sporty, a vegetatlon are organized every year. Outside the village, the Asinerie de Larrouey welcomes young and old for milking demonstrations.
